State park. We stay here a lot, and the views are just beautiful. There are shooting and archery ranges, hiking trails, and a various events the park schedules. Close drive to the lakes and the Salt River for tubing. During the summer you can get a spot (if your set up to handle the HOT AZ temps) anytime, but the winter, spring and fall the place is usually packed. Almost every spot we could park in with our 45', with room for our Jeep in front of it. They have many back-ins. All have fire pits and picnic tables. Some sites are not so level, additional leveling blocks will be needed. The only negative thing we have to say is it's not so pet friendly, (no grassy areas) but Red Mountain Park is less that 10 minutes away, with lots of grass the dogs love. Also always be aware of other "critters" that may venture through the park, coyotes, snakes, rabbits, scorpions...etc.. We will be back again.. We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

This is our third visit here. There isn't much that I can think of that is practical that would improve this campground. The spaces are large, almost like having no neighbors. Lots of hiking opportunities. The Visitors Center is good, with the added benefit of having scheduled nature programs. Very popular, so think ahead and make reservations as soon as you know when you want to visit. We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Once out of the park you are within 10 minutes of metro Mesa, with easy access to the shopping you probably need, like grocery and box stores. Our rig is short so we don't tow, but a big rig with a toad would have no difficulty.

Loved it here. Our site was so spacious and private. We had shade somewhere most of the day. We had a path to the restroom building but many sites would have long walk. Desert scenery was beautiful. Also made use of the little trading kiosk near the entrance. We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Close...wind Cave Trail, short trails from campground, mountain bike trail network. Day trip on Apache Trail to Tortilla Flats. Lost Dutchman State Park easy drive. Mesa close for restaurants, shopping. We liked Barleens Arizona Opry in Apache Junction. So much to do.

Close to Phoenix and Scottsdale, but far enough to feel out in nature, this was another great Arizona state park. The only negative I can think of is there is a gun range nearby as some others have mentioned. It didn't really bother me personally but if you are looking for complete quiet, it may bug you. It wasn't that busy when I was there, I could see it being a bit annoying if it got busy. The sites are very large and clean gravel. The campground was spotless, along with the bathrooms and showers. There's a dump onsite. They don't offer any FHU sites. There are great hiking trails where you can hike a mile or 10 miles...easy to hard, whatever you want. The hiking trails were wide enough to not have cactus problems for the dog's paws which has been a problem at some places in the past. There are a lot of coyotes nearby. I could hear them howling in the dark hours so watch your pets. Also ran across a rattlesnake in the middle of the road while walking around camp. This is Arizona after all. Cell service on ATT was unexplainably spotty. I even had issues once I got outside the park when I was in town shopping. Verizon jetpack was stable but slow...download speeds fluctuated between good times at 8 mbps to bad times less than 2 mbps. T mobile jetpack was consistently good. Site accessibility (Easy in and out. Roads in good condition, good signs) - 5 Campground location (Good location to Scottsdale and Phoenix, nice surroundings) - 5 Nearby amenities (Shopping close by) - 5 Site Privacy (Good spacing) - 4 Campground amenities (Clean bathrooms/showers. On site dump) - 4 Dog friendly (Great hiking trails, nice walks around camp) - 5 Activities (Lots of hiking, shopping) - 4 Cost ($30/night for 50 amp W/E) - 4 Staff friendliness (Friendly but not in your business) - 5 Connectivity (Tons of OTA channels, ATT in and out, Verizon was slow but usable, Tmobile good for data) - 3 Total rating = 4.4. We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Spectacular county park with wonderful scenery and sites. Located just east of Mesa and north of Apache Junction Usery Park would be rated a solid "10" if it had sewers at the sites. Most sites are quite large and big rig friendly. Getting into the park during the peak Winter season can be difficult without a reservation. All sites are open without shade but this isn't much of an issue in the winter. Reservations can be booked 6 months out. We will stay here again in our motorhome. We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

This might be the nicest government (fed, state, local) recreation development I've ever been to. It is truly fantastic!

The only ding is no sewer hook-ups but the dump station is free. The showers are free too (yeah, no quarters) AND the water is HOT (even in December).

Sites are huge with lots of space between them. Slight leveling needed on some sites but slope is probably needed for flash rainwater to run off.

The park itself is a cactus mecca. Almost like a cactus forest. A great number of hiking and horse trails. Archery, and even an covered plain-air outside workout "room" (probably 1000 sq ft big).

I'm ready to move in. I will be back! We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed our two week stay here. Very spacious sites with plenty of room between them. Some really beautiful hiking trails starting in the park and continuing into Tonto National Forest (dog friendly). No sewer, but dump station on site. As with other Maricopa County Parks, the pull through sites are just a wide spot in the road. Most of the back in sites are big rig friendly and easy in/out. Archery range and gun range in the park. If gun shooting bothers you, this isn't the park for you as it is constant throughout the day, but we got used to it. We'll be back. Verizon was ok, clear sky for sattelite. We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Usery Mountain Regional Park is a lovely place to stay if you have reason to visit the Mesa/Phoenix area of AZ. There are some nice trails and campsites are spacious. Word of warning: because of it's proximity to the city, it is well used. Trails were very, very crowded on Saturday and Sunday morning. Also, choose a campsite away from the group camping area. That can get really loud and unpleasant all day and into the night. In fact, the group that was there while I was was the loudest group I have ever experienced in a campground. I had to change my site. We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

This is certainly one of the premier parks we stay in all year. We have come here every year since 2001 because we have lots of family in the area. There are lots of activities in the park and many opportunities for hiking and bicycling. Also, there are many geocaches hidden in the park. The sites are well groomed and large. Some may take some careful leveling of your rig. The scenery here is gorgeous. The electricity and water hookups are adequate. Our Verizon cell service was great here. We will be back. We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

This is a nice Maricopa County Park only a few miles from Mesa AZ. There's quite a lot of space between sites, mostly filled with tall/mature cacti and other desert plants. The back-in sites have their "camping area" (picnic table, fire pit, open space) behind the site instead of next to it. The bath houses are about average, but each has only two men's showers and two women's showers so we sometimes had to wait to take a shower, even though the campground was only half full. There's a short "nature trail" in the campground, and several hikes starting at the trailhead a mile or so from the campground. There's plenty of places to walk dogs, but we also took our dogs into Mesa a few times to the huge and popular dog park there. We enjoyed the large, private sites and the proximity to town/shopping, and will likely stay here again. We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Great campground but hard to get into. Make reservations well in advance. Some of the sites are a bite tough to level in. Great facilities. Great hiking and biking. Friendly staff. Can't go wrong! Would be a 10 the sites were a bit more level. We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

We have stayed here before and really enjoyed this park. This time we had a "pull thru" site which is really a "pull off" site, nothing to separate you from the road once you are parked. Prefer the back in sites for longer stays.

Nice spread out park. Lots of trails between sites! Our group has Ramada A&B group camping and it was very nice. Clean restrooms and facilities. They could use a little better sign-age though. Pointing out where the trash bins are, etc. Nice packed gravel sites that were very level. We camped at Usery Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.
