This rating is for dry camping on the shoreline. There are no rules here - it's the Wild Wild West! We were told by the camp host that no one patrols the area but the Sheriff, so things get out of control. Loud music at all hours of the night, people going 50MPH through the parking lot with kids on the driver's lap, people getting drunk and driving their car into the water. This place is beautiful but the staff is not helpful and the sheriff clearly doesn't care to ensure a safe, peaceful environment. We camped at Lake Pleasant Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We have stayed here for a week at a time during the winter a couple of times while visiting family in Sun City West. Agree with previous reviews, some activity especially during weekends. Popular with snowbirders as well as Phoenix locals on weekends. Good hiking trails but for some reason there appears to be no trail connection to the Roadrunner Campground except a gated access road. While returning to the Campground after a walk on the Beasley Trail, I was accosted by a Park Employee quite rudely, and told it was illegal to walk the road! I asked about a trail connection to the Campground and was told there was none but that I couldn't walk the road. Catch 22? Other than that curious encounter, a well kept park with a nice visitor center, a good place to appreciate the desert environment. No shopping close, but easily accessible to I-17 a few miles east. All Maricopa Regional Parks are well run and provide a good stay. Reserve early during winter months as are popular with snowbirders. We camped at Lake Pleasant Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed in site Roadrunner #60. Beautiful mountain view from our site. Site is level and has oversized cement picnic table/benches and fire ring. Lake is very large, lots of hiking trails, wild burros, coyotes and lots of hummers and other birds. We kayaked in the lake in the coves, avoiding the middle of the lake where the large boats are. 30 minutes to grocery stores and restaurants. So many roads and trails to explore - you never know what you'll see. Many balloons go over in the early morning and right before sunset. Very busy on lake on the weekend but wonderful during the week. We camped at Lake Pleasant Regional Park in a Motorhome.

We've been to 5 of the Maricopa County parks. They are all scenic, clean, and well-managed. This one is no exception. It's desert around a lake. The loops are paved with gravel sites sitting on top of the hills around the lake. We reserved only a couple weeks out for early February and got one of the last two hookup (W & E) sites. Sites can be close but are well laid out. #157 in the Desert Tortoise Campground had the picnic area (concrete table with Ramada) to the rear. From our picnic area we could see a partial view of the lake. The site was tiered on a hill with #158 below us and #156 up the hill from us. It was about a 10 minute walk down the road to the wild burro trail. Driveways to some sites are steep or curve after entering. These are noted on their web site in the site details. This park has 3 types of camping: W & E sites, non-hookup sites, disbursed shore camping. We camped at Lake Pleasant Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Campground was nice. Spots were a little tight for big rig. Did have 50 amp service. Good water. Had to use dump station for sewer. Campground did experience a couple days of high winds. The parks has limited shade but each campsite has cover over picnic table. We camped at Lake Pleasant Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We love this park! We stayed in Roadrunner Campground up on the hill - lakeside over looking the lake. Our site was a pull through so extremely easy to navigate but the back in sites are also very nice. Most sites are positioned very well to maximize privacy and space between. Shade is provided by a fixed cabana covering the stone picnic table. It was extremely windy every night. We stayed in winter so it was very quiet and mostly empty. There are slot of trails to explore, beautiful wildlife and flora to enjoy. The only negative - which will likely cause us to not return is the rangers have banned all E-bikes from the park. We have peddle assist ebikes and camped here specifically to explore the roads and trails but the ranger told us they just don't know enough about these yet so they just don't allow them. This is a huge disappointment. There was a man on a scooter zipping all through the campground but apparently that's allowed. Unfortunately this ambiguous rule may prevent us from returning to this beautiful park We camped at Lake Pleasant Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Go check out the Discovery Center - lots of history and information available as well as trail maps. Also go over to Scorpion Bay Marina - it's tucked back into the the canyon .. if your not sure ask for directions. It's a pretty location and you take a tram to the bottom. There's a boat rental shop, and a restaurant on the water. Great trails to explore and plenty of areas to kayack

Fishing, boating, hiking, atv 4x4, miles of trails, BLM land.Know the trail markings, there are some trails only the most experienced would want to navigate. There is an old mining town called Crown King about 25 miles north of the park. Off road vehicles only, about 4 hour drive one way!

We have mixed feelings on this county park. We stayed here last year for a week, and are back for two weeks this time. Most sites have great views of either the reservoir or the valley, but the sites are fairly close together with limited to no privacy. Lots of day use people driving through the camp area, so you get the "fish in a bowl" feeling when trying to relax outside. Many sites are not big rig friendly due to the size, not being level, or due to the approach to the pad. The campground gets pretty busy, especially on the weekend and does get fairly noisy. Lots of smokey "fires", so we were forced to keep the windows closed from late afternoon on. It can get very windy at night, especially on the lake side - worse on the hill, so decide if the view is worth some sleepless nights. But, if you enjoy any kind of water sports, or even just a water view though, this place is tough to beat in the area. Our dogs love to swim which is the main reason we're back, and will probably be back next year. Hiking in the park is limited to one major trail and a couple of short ones, but if you take the the Frog Tank Trail, through the gate (closed to bikes and horses), you'll intersect with Morgan City Wash Trail. Beautiful trail, lots of water, trees, and wild life. That trail will intersect with Beardsly, so you could make a loop, or backtrack. Hell's canyon wilderness area is nearby with miles of great trails. If you enjoy target shooting, there are several locations just pass the park entrance (verify for yourself if it's legal, but based on how many were shooting on the weekend, I suspect it is). Take a drive on Desert Hotsprings road to see some beautiful country and the very cool historic Hotsprings resort. Lots of BLM and State trust land to play on close by. We camped at Lake Pleasant Regional Park in a Motorhome.

In addition to the daily rate of $30 for an electric (50 amp) and water site, there is an $8 reservation fee. This county park is a ways outside of Phoenix, but still a good spot to stay while visiting the area. The sites are large and fairly well spaced. While most of the sits are paved, a few, including our site, are gravel. It was fairly quiet during our two-day visit there. We had good Verizon voice and data coverage, and, since there are no trees, satellite was not a problem. The electrical power and water pressure were good. It is a fairly busy park, so it is a good idea to get reservations. We camped at Lake Pleasant Regional Park in a Motorhome.

We just stayed here for a week with two other friends and their coaches. This is "our" kind of RV campground. Quiet. Very large sites. Good outdoor eating area. A view from our coach. Beautiful sunsets.

I would rate this a 10 if we had had a sewer hook up. From what I could tell there were very few sites with sewer.

This is a county park on a large lake north of Phoenix. I was mostly full the first days we where there as it was spring break for kids. After that it was about 1/3 full. We used this as a home base to go to pre-season baseball. If you like peace and quiet this is a great park to do that. If you want to be closer to the action and shopping I would suggest getting closer. It is about a 20 minute drive to a market from here.

On the way to Phoenix one morning my wife spotted a heard of wild burros about a mile outside the RV park entrance. We had seen the signs on the road indicating they were in the area, but then got lucky and saw a group of about ten of them. This RV park is also prime habitat for saguaro cactus. There are thousands of them in the park and around it. Very nice spring wildflowers. We camped at Lake Pleasant Regional Park in a Motorhome.
