This park north of Fountain Hills is our favorite Maricopa County park. If you want the feeling of being in the wide open desert but with hookup (W & E) sites, this is the park to go to. There is generous spacing between sites like we've never seen at any other place. We reserved 6 months out for February. It was full during our stay. Loops are paved. Sites are gravel and wide. In #61 the picnic area was behind and had a concrete table, pedestal grill, and fire ring/grill combo. There are many trails at this park easily accessible from the campground. The visitor center is small but has some interesting things for sale. There are ranger programs to attend. There is one dumpster and recycling bin (aluminum cans only) per loop plus one by the dump station. Our top picks for sites are: 6, 46, 48, 50, 61, 69, 70 (view of dumpster). We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

There are many trails. The Pemberton trail seems to have the heaviest bike use. Be careful if you are walking on it.

Beautiful scenery with mountains all around and desert plants as far as the eye can see. No road noise since park entrance is 4 miles away, but the coyote chorus is regular and constant throughout the night. Plenty of hiking and biking trails, some right from the campground. Great bathrooms and showers which are never crowded. Quiet campground except for some late night socializing on the weekends...not enough to complain about to camp hosts, though. The only real negative is the sewer smell from the first bathroom in the South Loop, and the fact that the supposedly automatic lights in the Women's room don't always work. Apparently it's an ongoing problem so I just learned to bring a headlamp and hold my breath near the bathrooms. Otherwise, an outstanding experience. We will be back! We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

We love the Fountain Hills Library with freaky fast internet. Choice of Safeway, Basha's and Fry's for groceries, all within 15 minutes.

We love it here. The views are tremendous. We prefer the south loop (sites 45-80). This is a very clean, well maintained county park. The trails are amazing. We came to volunteer for an ultramarathon being held on the trails in the park. We got plenty of running and biking in while here. I had very good connectivity for work on AT&T and Verizon. An earlier reviewer remarked about the planes, but I enjoyed watching them. The park is close to services in Fountain Hills, Tempe and Phoenix. I had to travel for work and it was easy for me to get to the airport. We will definitely stay again. It is a great place, and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Tips for other Campers:

While we were there, there was both a mountain biking event (one weekend) and an ultramarathon (the other weekend) happening in the park, so if you are in to either of these things, this is the place to be.

This is the second time we have stayed here in site 75. Each site has beautiful views of the desert and surrounding mountains. The site was fairly level--we needed no leveling blocks--but we noticed some sites, esp. in the north loop, looked off kilter. The south loop is quieter and has larger spots; the north loop is more child-friendly, as it has a playground. We come for the 60 miles of biking and running trails, accessible straight from the camp site, that are maintained well. The only downfalls: very few dumpsters or trash cans (you have to walk a bit) and the incessant small-engine aircraft noise. Apparently there are many flight schools in the area, and they like to buzz the campground for hours on end, making it seem like you're under attack--which is annoying if you're hoping to listen to the sounds of the desert wildlife. Other than that, the place is clean and well-maintained. Make reservations early. The campground is always full during the spring. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

see previous reviewers, excellent park. If I had a choice I would avoid sites 30-40 as it is the main road for the service trucks and they fly buy often. I would also avoid (if it is a concern) sites 50-80 due to old bathrooms. However, 50-80 is also quiet and best views. but all views are wonderful...birds, saguaro, mountains, sunsets, sunrises, etc. etc. the host rakes each campground. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Recommend the North Trail nature hike with plants identified by number. arrive in the daytime, the campground is very dark which is great. coyotes are wandering at nite, keep pets close by. Nature center has beautiful live snakes, scorpions, gila monster and tarantula.

We stayed here while visiting the Scottsdale area. The camp hosts were very helpful. Our camp site was immaculate all the way down to rake designs by our fire pit. Didn't have a chance to use the bike trails but will definitely be back. Great place! We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Our second stay at this wonderful county park. Maricopa County has to have some of the nicest, prettiest parks anywhere. Water and electric only, but nice dump station in the park. Very nice spacing between sites with many sites having no view of neighbors. The sites are plenty wide with picnic table and fire pit in the rear, but they are not overly long. Our 43' RV fit, but without much room to spare. The only downside, if you can call it that, is the park is far from pretty much anything. Fountain Hills has a really nice Safeway, but like everything else there, prices are high. Decent Verizon signal and no problem with sattelite reception. Lots of hiking and biking trails in the park. We wanted to stay longer, but the park gets pretty full on weekends, so plan ahead. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Information signs are typical brown with white letters showing signs of age. Very difficult to see and read. Site spacing is fantastic - park nearly full and we could only see six or seven other RV's. Our space #61 strangely shaped in that entrance was just barely wide enough for toad and coach and other end was much wider. Be careful selecting site. I saw several that were probably long enough for 30 footers but half was a steep grade/ramp up. Shower water was HOT with no adjustment. Entrance booth seemed to be closed most of the time. Check-in at nature center (closes at 4 PM) a couple miles from entrance. Overall we enjoyed our week stay. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed over the weekend and it was very peaceful around the campground. Not too many people there at all, surprising because of all the Snowbirds. Sites are huge and very clean and private with 30 and 50 amp services. Utilities are close and convenient. Easy back in sites, rest rooms conveniently located and always very clean. Satellite service easy to get, very open area with nothing to block the signal. Lots of coyotes at night to listen too and enjoy. My dog wanted to run a play with them, go figure! Camped here in a 5th wheel. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Another return visit to this convenient and beautiful campground. Same spacious sites with plenty of room between your neighbors. Immaculate rest rooms and showers. Water and power functioned normally, although we are now int he habit of always leaving the water filter as well as the power meter connected. Camp Hosts frequently about in their carts cleaning common as well as individual areas. Plenty of great trails for hiking, biking or horseback riding (we were there this time for the AZ High School MTB races on the Competitive Track). Community dump at the entrance/exit to the campground with 2 stations. Stunning views of 4 Peaks and the Superstitions Mountains to the east and the McDowell mountains are your back door to the west. Tips for other Campers:

The popular Thoms Thumb trail head in the McDowell Mt Preserve is just a short hike to the west. If you get a site on the far south area of the camp ground, you'll get to see the fountain at Fountain Hills at the top of every hour during the day.

This is the second time we have stayed here and we would definitely stay here again. The sites are very spacious, quite some distance from each other, very quiet, and the views are great. This is not your typical RV park but more like "camping". We had a long pull through site which easily handled our 40 foot motorhome and tow vehicle. We had to use additional blocks to level, however. Electric and water at site, no sewer at site, and no wifi. The park is 8 miles out of Fountain Hills, which requires a lot of driving if you are doing city activities. But we definitely find that it is worth it! A lot of very unlevel sites, we tried for 30 minutes to get our 40' bus level, unsuccessfully. Thankfully they had another level site & allowed us to switch, for a $5 fee. 50A power, nice views, good playground for the grandchild, lots of hike trails. Very far from civilization(other than Fountain Hills). Nice spacious sites, well maintained. Dump station only, no sewer at sites. Water quality is "Arizona Terrible", lots of mineral content. This park is beautiful, well kept, large sites, no close neighbors, beautiful views. We've stayed here before and I'm sure we'll be back.

Sites easily can hold the big rigs, the ones that are at a 90 degree entrance from the road are a little tricky to back a large 5th wheel into due to where the park has some concrete barriers, narrow road and a ditch on one side of the road. Unfortunately we arrived in the dark so it was a little more time consuming than usual. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice, very quite, regional park. Sites are level, although a bit on the short side. If you don't need a pull through site, I wouldn't recommend them...basically just a wide spot in the road. Plenty of space between sites with beautiful mountain views in every direction. With many miles of mixed use trails, this is a very popular park for mountain bikers. Great trail access from the campgrounds, but with the number of bikers, I wouldn't really call the trails dog friendly, and certainly not off leash (leash rules in affect). We found Stoneman Wash a great location to let dogs off leash to run (under voice control at all times of course). Trails are well marked, mostly rolling hills, and easy, so not a great hiking area if you like more challenging trails. First time here, and will be back. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

We're staying here now - a 4 night stay and it's a very nice desert RV Park. Lots of room between campsites. Very nice bathrooms and water and Electric service.

Mountain views all around and large old Segura Cacti in most of the campsites. We've got a pull-thru which is a wide spot in the road kind of pull-thru. Nicely curbed and a nice picnic table, grill and fire ring with neatly raked gravel. The campsite is paved, not level, but just fine.

Lots to do here, but you are far from everything. It seems every place we've gone has been 29 miles away according to the GPS. The closest town Fountain HIlls is very southwestern and nice. But no Laundromat nearby. The closest we found was... you guessed it, 29 miles away.

We like it here very much and would return if we were in the area. We're here in April but I'm guessing May to Oct is VERY hot. Though in April it's 80 during the day and 55 each night - cooling off around 5 pm. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.
