The park office was closed when we got there about 2pm on a Saturday. Took a payment envelope and map and looked for a site. Over nite sites were close to the road but level. The only shade was from tall spindly palm trees. We did have help from a staff person who showed us how to turn on the electric. Not like usual. Utilities were at the back of the site so our tow was nearly in the road and we have a small car toad. We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here in a Passport America rate in 2014. Passport America is not taken here now. The nightly rate is $31 but they take FMCA, Good Same, and AAA for a 10% discount. They have better rate for Escapees but I don't know what that is. Since 2014 we have stayed here twice about 2 weeks apart. This park is located outside of the Phoenix metroplex and is relatively quiet with distant highway noise from I-10. The roads are paved and sites gravel and the sites are not right on top of one another. The park is clean with no trash and only neatly organized clutter for those who spend the winter here. There is not much in the way of stores here but a quick trip about 20 miles east will get you to most of what you need. This place was originally built to house the workers who built Palo Verde Nuclear power plant which opened in 1988. They have expanded the RV park to the north since then. This is what I call a 6' park. Everything looks great from 6' away but the closer you look you can see the signs that it's been around for well over 30 years. Since we've were here in 2014 a chicken egg operation has opened up less than a mile to the west. When the wind is coming from the west you become well aware of it and it's not pleasant. They have wifi for a fee and they do not have cable TV for the short term guests. We will probably stay here again if we head down toward Ajo or we want to miss rush hours when we drive through Phoenix. We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice. We needed a place 1/2 way between home and Tucson for a one-night stay. Wasn't expecting anything this nice. Large, pull-thru level gravel sites. Cemet patio. Full hook ups. Pool & more. Very quiet. They offer lots of discounts; Escapees is the best discount. People working here were very nice. Was told reservations were not required; they would have plenty of places. Definitely would stay here again! We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed in this park this past season from November to March. This use to be a very desirable RV park but an egg farm has moved in not far from the park. With this egg farm has come an odor that can be quite unbearable at times and the flies are constant and many. As fewer people use the park, the amenities are becoming fewer and certain areas are now off limits to customers unless the manager wants to use them. There are a few that live in the park permanently but only one whose place is a disaster. We will not be staying here again. We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We are staying here for 3 months as my wife is a traveling nurse working in the area. We absolutely love this place! We read all of the reviews before coming out here. There are some bad reviews or old reviews I'd like to address. Yes, there is an egg farm about a mile west and you can only get a whiff of it about 5% of the time. I can tell by the population in the park right now that those negative reviews are having an impact. Another topic of poor reviews is the lack of good cell service. I came prepared by purchasing a cell booster for the weak cell signal. But to our surprise when we arrived, we were getting 4 bars of signal. We found out from another resident that Verizon had just installed a new tower a mile away just 2 weeks before our arrival. Another concern for us was the lack of good park Wi-Fi, since reading the bad reviews. I have been playing with it and getting 3 mbs consistently, which is plenty for us to stream shows on our Roku device (And it is absolutely free). They have 4 or 5 Wi-Fi transmitters throughout the park. I'm not sure if that is a new addition or not, but the internet is working just fine and saving us on our Verizon data plan. We also took a trip through a nearby RV park just to see the differences. Man, that place had RV's stacked like wood. You had just enough room for one vehicle on your lot. Compared to that place, we have acreage. Our closest neighbor is about 40' away; the other neighbor is close to 70' away. Of course we are on a premium lot, which are double lots. I could park 9 cars in our lot. The premium lots are $380/month at this park compared to $580+/month at other parks. There are plenty of open lots, which gives you a very spacious feeling. It is very quiet and peaceful! This park has more to do than I can handle. They have Pickle Ball courts, Shuffleboard, a Pool, a Gym, Bingo, Desert off-roading, Billiards, Ping Pong, Jam sessions, Coffee every morning for the guys, etc. AAA+ We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

If you are feeling claustrophobic at the park you are staying at, you may consider this place. It is serene! Shopping is not nearby; it is about 22 miles away, but the views are amazing. There are a group of people who have side by sides and get together every Wednesday to ride into the mountains. They took me out the other day and it was awesome. Golf carts are welcome. Three major gas stations nearby with restaurants. Excellent Maintenance crews working everyday.

Huge facility with many sites and amenities. Easy access right off the highway but no highway noise. Big rig friendly. Not much shade. No longer a Passport America campground however many other discounts are available (Grood Sam, etc). This campground is a good 20 miles from any major shopping or activities. While it is a great place to say for a night or two, the smell from the nearby chicken farms can be overpowering at times. I don't think we would stay in our Motorhome longer than a day for this reason. Otherwise, the park is nice. We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Our 3rd annual stay here on the way east. No negatives with the exception of an intermittent unpleasant odor from the newly built chicken farm. Can really be a problem when the wind is blowing the wrong way. Otherwise the place is great. We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Staff is very friendly & helpful. I didn't reserve and got a site right away in mid December. But be aware, later in the afternoon and weekends the office is closed and there is no way to get in contact with somebody. The location is way out in the desert and there is pretty much nothing around. If you are 4-wheeling, this is a good spot. It's about 50 miles to Phoenix or 30 to Buckeye for shopping. Noise from the Interstate is very muffled and far away. The roads are paved and the setup is nice. There are some trees and palm trees but no green spaces.

Longtimers and daily guests are in different locations. However I haven't seen any RV's in disrepair.

The gravel sites are large enough for big rigs¸ hookups, with water, power, sewer, cable TV were working fine, we were able to pick up the WiFi signal from the computer room, but it was very slow, so I ordered the external solution, which wasn't better at all!

As the park has grown over time, the restrooms, the laundry and the pool might be far away, depending where you are parked. Sometimes, depending on the wind, you can get a bad smell from a nearby chicken farm. There is a pool, a woodworking shop, a computer room and a rec. hall. All is in good repair but shows the age a little bit. We would come back for a shorter term. We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

This place is OK as a overnight but not longer due to an intermittent stench from a huge commercial chicken egg production facility located about 1/2 mile away. The smell will chase you inside your RV.

Full hookup lots, nearby fuel stations with diesel, easy access from I-10, near post office. Nearest shopping is Buckeye (about 20 minutes away) that has a Fry's and Wally World. We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We pulled in on a weekend and found it strange that the office is closed on weekends but it was easy enough to grab a self checking envelope and grab a spot. Un-knowingly we parked behind the office where the sites are very wide open but I guess it is primarily monthly sites, but got no grief from the office. The main part of the park has some palm tree's but is tighter so we didn't care about being by the tree's. When the wind is just right there is some smell from a near by cattle farm and the Verizon service is terrible, terrible. Utilities are at the rear of the sites so we needed a sewer extension. If you have a RZR this would be a good place to stay and explore but like mentioned by others, not much in the area. We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Wanted to only stay for 2 weeks but paying for a month was cheaper than paying for the weekly rate twice. Campground is big and lots of campers everywhere. Many full time residents (workers). No cable. WiFi only if you pay for it from your site. Hard to get on the internet because it depended on what was the time of day. Free WiFi in activity center. Hookups are at end of site so you have to use more sewer hose. Probably will not return. We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

I've stayed here twice over the last three years, only for one night as I passed through. The people here are friendly and helpful. They even offered to setup all my hookups for me the first time I was here. I really appreciate the dog runs. Fenced in, and two separate areas so you usually end up with an area to yourself. It's a very clean park, easy to get to from the freeway. I made it a point to stay here in January when I was again on my way east. We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

One of the cleanest parks we've ever seen. Wide sites with good access for big rigs. I never saw the office open so can't comment on that service, but everyone else we met was friendly. Self checkin could have been better explained but we got it done. Lots going on, many activities. Great hiking and dog walking in the desert right across the street. We stayed a week. We will certainly return. We camped at Saddle Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.
