This is one of the nicest state parks we have seen. Park is kept up. Sites are paved. Lots of trails(some need to be better marked) Easy in and Out. Table some shade. dogs are allowed on trails(leashed of course) which is wonderful! We camped at Catalina State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a well-maintained park, extremely clean and quiet, but only 12 miles out of Tucson on 77 North. Water and electric at all sites, large and spacious. Many trees, but not tall/thick enough to give much shade. Paved roads and pull-thrus/backins, most capable of large RVs. In early May, beginning to get very hot during days and park is mostly empty--sure it fills in cooler months. We camped at Catalina State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Most all shopping needs close by--Walmart directly across Hwy 77 in new shopping center. This is AZ, was starting the 100+ days while we were here in early May. Would not consider staying here any later in year until Sept. Hiking trails around.

Nice park, good spacing, long sites. Loop B is Big Rig friendly, I would not want to drive my 40' 5th wheel thru A loop (although it's great for smaller rigs, shady/trees. Walmart/shopping close by. Easy access to dump station. We camped at Catalina State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very pretty location. Roads are easy to navigate. Some of the sites have shade... I'm not sure if any have sewer. Our site was a pull-through with room to stay hitched had we wanted to (we have a 40' 5th wheel). Directly across the street from the SP is a newer shopping area with In/Out Burger, Walmart (nice Walmart) and a few other stores. Lots of other stores/gas stations/restaurants nearby. The paid rangers upfront, were not very friendly. The volunteers were wonderful. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Catalina State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This small and very popular park is often booked solid, so plan ahead. The sites are well spaced, feeling roomy. All have picnic tables, pocket gophers, a tree or two, and generally level parking. There is an "A" and a "B" campground, and an Equine "center". There is a dump station at each campground, and a two-position dump station on the way out of the park. The departing dump station has nice hoses and such to clean up and refill after you dump. The easy trails are wide enough for a park service vehicle and very, very well maintained. All of the easy trails have other trail-heads, some of which head up into the 9000+ mountains, so hiking is as easy or as advanced as you wish. The park has ranger activities for kids of all ages, especially on the weekends. We camped at Catalina State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Camped in a Motorhome in Site B61. Stayed the maximum 2 weeks and could have stayed longer. So much to do with the trails and activities. Went with the Bird Walk group twice and both times saw different wildlife. So many birds!! Was surprised by how much wildlife was around us. Also enjoyed the bluegrass band at the trailhead. Very quiet, beautiful views all around. Our site was very level. Close to Tuscon and we enjoyed the Gem and Mineral Shows, Sweetwater Wetlands and Mt. Lemmon and the Observatory. Will return. Arizona state parks are the cleanest and nicest state parks we've ever seen and this one was no exception. Easy trails lead from the campground to the Catalina Mountains where a nice variety of desert flora and fauna make their homes. The showers are free and well maintained (CO and CA state parks take note) and everything in the park was well maintained. We camped at Catalina State Park in a Travel Trailer.

My favorite campground, improved this year by the addition of free WiFi! Granted, we had to log back in a few times each day, but it was good enough for streaming. The mountains surrounding the campground are gorgeous and it seems like miles from civilization, even though I-10 and a big mall are just a mile away. Excellent bathrooms and showers, kept very clean by volunteers. I love having a sink for dishwashing at each of the bathrooms. This was our first stay in the newer B Loop, and while it's not as intimate and private as the A Loop, I now prefer it for the better showers. In A, you have to keep pressing a button to maintain water flow, but B is a steady stream. Plenty of hot water too. Hiking trails begin right at the campground, or at a major trailhead about one mile into the park. Plenty of guided bird walks and nature hikes, plus musical programs on Saturdays. We found the campground quiet and peaceful despite the holidays. No campfires allowed except for charcoal in BBQ grill. Catalina State Park is the perfect mix of gorgeous nature and the convenience of a major city. We camped at Catalina State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Walmart across street. Choice of grocery stores within 10 minutes and plenty more within 20 (Safeway, Fry's, Basha's, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Sprouts). Search for Happy Hours on Yelp and you'll find plenty of reasonably priced meals. Catalina Laundry is under new management and 10 minutes away, and apparently improved, but we still prefer to go downtown to Wildcat Laundry.

Overall Rating:

The sites are fairly level and are laid out well so that those on the outer loop cannot see directly into other campsites. There are small trees providing a tiny bit of shade throughout the campground. Water pressure is decent. Trails around the campground are easy, and the shorter ones are dog-friendly. Although it's nice to be close to amenities, with a Walmart and other shopping right across the street, the campers here are a bit noisy, playing loud music from their rigs throughout the day. We chalked this up to people who don't camp much and thus either aren't comfortable with the sounds of nature or who don't realize that they are affecting others. As as soon as I told the hosts about it, they took care of it. When those people aren't around, you can hear plenty of birdsong. Despite the noisy neighbors, it is a pretty nice campground, so we will be back. We camped at Catalina State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great bathroom facilities. Tiled showers. Sealed roads and parking but my one complaint is the picnic table and bbq area were dirt. Also think $30 is a bit high for SP but that seems to be AZ policy everywhere. Great walks in the park and a good shopping centre across the road from the entrance to the park. This is a perfect example of what a state park should be. The views are great. The location was fantastic for shopping. Best Buy, Walmart, Petsmart are literally across the street form the entrance as well as other stores. Down the road anything you could want. The neighborhood was very clean, high end and safe. The park itself was immaculate. There are tons of great hiking trails in the park. Across the street is a paved biking trail that goes for I have no idea how far. I rode it 10 miles then called it a day but it goes much further. As you enter the shopping area where Best Buy is, on your left you will see the paved off road biking path. It was amazing. I wish I could have stayed longer but I had to move on. I would gladly stay here again. I echo what previous reviewers have said about Ringtail not being nice but A and B are both nice. There were only a couple of good OTA channels and ATT was dropping calls even though it showed 1-2 bars of service. I found Verizon calls to be stable but the data was slow. in the neighborhood of 3mb/s download speed which would go up to 5 or 6 at times. It was still usable but at times kinda slow. T mobile was good for streaming data. I never bothered putting my booster up because it wasn't bothering me that much. Site accessibility (Easy in and out. Roads in good condition, good signs) - 5 Campground location (Perfect location to Tucson, nice surroundings) - 5 Nearby amenities (Shopping literally across the street) - 5 Site Privacy (Good spacing) - 4 Campground amenities (Clean bathrooms/showers. On site dump) - 4 Dog friendly (Great hiking trails, nice walks around camp) - 5 Activities (Lots of hiking, great biking, shopping) - 5 Cost ($30/night for 50 amp W/E) - 4 Staff friendliness (Friendly but not in your business) - 5 Connectivity (2 major OTA networks and some fillers, ATT dropped calls, Verizon was slow but usable) - 3 Total rating = 4.5. We camped at Catalina State Park in a Motorhome.
