We always enjoy our stay here as the desert views are beautiful and the convenient to the lake, and ATV use (although we didn't have one). The park is is quite a distance from major towns so make sure that you stock up on fuel and food prior to arrival. The park is surrounded by large Saguaro cacti and wildlife including wild burros. We brought bikes and kayaks to use in the park. Verizon signal is very good and the sites are level. Some are gravel and some are on asphalt. We camped at Alamo Lake in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Bring groceries/drinks before you arrive. Top off your fuel tank at the convenience store between Salome and Wenden if coming from Parker. The lake is great for fishing or kayaking but keep tabs on the wind forecast.

We stopped here as we made our way from Sacramento California to Tucson Arizona. This park is a little out of the way and off the beaten path, but if you are looking to get away from it all then this is a great place. Also, they don't have breed restrictions in regards to dogs, so for those of us with well behaved pit bulls, german shepherds and other large breeds, this is a great place concidering Phoenix RV parks pretty much exclude anything over 25 pounds. There are many different loops in this park which have varying services. So, when making your reservation, be sure you understand what is available in the loop you are being placed in. Some have water and electric, some have only water, some have only electric, and some are full hookups while others are dry camping. This is a great place to check out the stars at night. This is a great place to stay if you want to get away from it all! We camped at Alamo Lake in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in a 24' travel trailer for 7 nights. Nice clean park. It is very quiet and we enjoyed campfires, stars, and hearing coyotes and burros every night except for 1 when it rained. Enjoyed bird watching and one in our group had an ATV that provided an opportunity to see a lot of the surrounding area. Took a day to hunt quail in the nearby desert and it was great. Good lake to fish but not so hot in January. Too bad the best eating fish also have mercury warnings! Someone hit a water main the day we were leaving and the water was off. Camp store has essentials available and there is a bar and restaurant only 6 miles away if you are tired of cooking. We camped at Alamo Lake in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

It is a very isolated location so you should come prepared although there is a camp store and bar and restaurant in the area. It is 38 miles from the nearest small town with a dollar store that has everything. Nice and clean park with some hiking trails. It is a little steep in places for biking but there is a vast desert area to explore and enjoy. We saw quail, javelina, burros, deer and many birds.

We stayed in the lower level of the full hookup section. The sites are closer together than some of the other state parks, but really long. We could have put another trailer and vehicle in our spot. Our site was pretty level and the electric and water were in good spot. The sewer was quite a bit away. You are pretty much off the grid here. We had absolutely no cell service for either Sprint or AT&T. No OTA tv channels. We couldn't really see the lake from our spot, but you could just up the hill behind us. We saw several wild burros and one ran right through our site. We would stay here again. We camped at Alamo Lake in a Travel Trailer.

Over by the cabins there is a picnic area that is a bit of a hike up the hill. There we were sometimes able to get a bar or two on our cell phones on Sprint

Overall Rating:

Alamo Lake SP has five separate campgrounds. This review is for Campground C, which has electric and water hook-ups at developed sites. In my view, based on my stay, the Arizona State Park systems is misleading campers. Alamo Lake SP is hyped as a magnificent star gazing place to camp. This is not so for Campground C. To my surprise, on a moonless sky night, I discovered the campground has at least seven bright glowing street lights. Those lights definitely interfere with viewing the stars. The bright casting glow of Phoenix is also, present in the sky here. Sites are somewhat attractive. A combination of pull-through and back-ins. A few are not level. The loop road is very rough. Oddly, the dump station sits at the entrance and exit to the campground. If an RV is dumping, the exit can be blocked. We camped here in a motorhome and will not return during the spring break period. We camped at Alamo Lake in a Motorhome.

This was our second trip to Alamo Lake State Park and we will definitely return again. We were there over the New Year weekend and were there for the First Day Hike, a ranger led hike that was a great way to start off 2012. The park is clean and quiet and the night skies are wonderful. And my husband says the fishing is great. We will definitely return to Alamo Lake State Park again. We camped at Alamo Lake in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful setting, quite remote. If you enjoy walking and quiet star filled nights, this is the place. Our favorite place to stay in Arizona, wild burros and coyotes and saguaros. The rangers are always around and quite helpful. We stayed during a big storm and I could tell they were watching out for us. I sure hope AZ doesn't close this one. We camped at Alamo Lake in a Fifth Wheel.

This large, desert park on a 500 acre lake, is just lovely and offers so many choices of service level and campsite privacy. Wild burros, great crappie and bass fishing, nice people, beautiful mountain sunsets. We'll be back! We camped at Alamo Lake in a Travel Trailer.

This is a fairly small campground with two main loops. Sites are somewhat larger than average with some privacy between sites from small trees and shrubs. The lake is nice but none of the hookup sites are waterfront - some have distant water views. There are no walking trails and no dog walking areas. There is no footpath to the lake - one must walk down the street to the boat launch area. There is also no fishing pier and few places to fish from the shoreline. Basically, this is a campground catering to people with motorized boats who come to fish. We camped at Alamo Lake in a Motorhome.

This campground is quite remote being 37 miles from any services. Many sites had beautiful views of this lake. While it is a nice place for off road (OHV) vehicles, there are not any loud noises from these vehicles. Most, in fact, are quite expensive and well muffled. Over half the sites are quite spacious. There are some really nice non-hookup sites available really close to the water. I would stay here again. We camped at Alamo Lake in a Motorhome.

Great out of the way campground. Alamo Lake is great fishing for bass, cat, and panfish. Hot in the summer but great weather in the spring, winter, and fall. Hiking in the washes was fun. Wild burros, and water birds were seen. Friendly rangers. We camped at Alamo Lake in a Motorhome.
