This park has 2 parts. A backs up to the water with a picnic table behind the camper and close to the water. All sites are asphalt and level. There is a nice space between the campsites with grass in between. B is in more of the woods, with more space in between sites than A. We drove around B. B 23 is very unlevel but the rest looked fine to us. We camped at Springhill COE in a Motorhome.

On the day we arrived we had friends get here first to someone setting up in their reserved site. No reserved signs were put on either of our sites. We had a tent camper in our site. He had packed up to leave when we arrived. The site has a nice creek view. The mosquitoes were bad, the grass was high and weedy. The pad is asphalt with gravel patio. Partial shade. It was real quiet on Thursday pretty quiet on Friday. Then on Saturday and we were in A loop lots of folks come to bank fish and one had his German Shepherd roaming no leash and was nose to nose with our little dog properly on a chain at our site. One close camper had some kind of large dinner with tons of cars parked which I thought was unsafe for the kids on bikes. There is only one dump station. Our site had water and electricity. Nice to have water but still have to be conservative without the full hook up. Nowhere for it to go. Fishing here was pretty nonexistent. It was one hot October weekend. Bank fisherman don't bother to take their trash with them. Saw trash bag thrown on ground at the pavilion. There was no host Thursday when we arrived, glad our tent camper problem had been dealt with by our friend before we got here. There was no help to be found. We called the phone number, got answering machine. We camped at Springhill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

The B loop is 50 amp and forested. The A loop is 30 amp and has water views. All sites had water; none had sewer. Most sites at B loop were excessively out of level. Our front jacks were fully extended and we were still not level. There is a nice hike/bike loop through and around the campground. We camped at Springhill COE in a Motorhome.

Very disappointed in the COE Park. Have stayed in several over the years and all have been better kept than this one. Arrived during lunch hour for volunteer attendant. Went to two Park Host RVs and neither would help me. Said I had to wait until lunch was over (1 hr). Drove around looking for suitable sites. Many were too short, most steeply sloped front to back. Park was generally unkept. Many permanent campers, but few passing through. We camped at Springhill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Drive around first to find most suitable site. All sites are reservable so you can not pick one out and then go pay in the morning. Access to all services was close by. Cell was adequate. Working dam/ lock so horn sounds when barges pass through. But one can go watch boats lock through. Visit Ft. Smith Historic District. Home of Darby of Darby's Rangers, Actual Fort of Fort Smith, Hanging Judge Roy Parker. US Marshall's Museum is opening here in late 2019.

Overall Rating:

This CG has two sections - the A section is located on a creek that runs in to the Arkansas River. The B section is in the woods. The A section hookups are 30 amp and water, the B section sites are 30&50 amp and water. there are no full hook up sites. There is a dump station that is in good shape. Some of the sites are a little short for longer rigs; the site lengths shown on recreation.gov seem accurate. Most sites are fairly level, but many of the sites are perpendicular to the road making backing into the sites a challenge since the roads are a little narrow and bordered by ditches particularly in the B section. The camper parking pads are asphalt; the sitting areas are gravel. Some of the gravel sitting areas need to be "refreshed" with new gravel. The bathrooms are functional and basic. Site B10 appears low and would hold water or be muddy if it rains. Sites are well laid out and spacious. Signage in the campground could be improved for the first excursion into the park. The park gate is not closed at night. Good location to use a a base to tour Ft. Smith. We camped at Springhill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed in B loop #12. Nice forested park with lots of amenities and playgtrounds. When we arrived I didn't realize that the park is locateed on final approach to the Ft Smith airport and airforce base. So there is an occasional aircraft overhead. We're in a 45 ft motorhome and had to pick carfully which site we could fit into. B-12 is enough out of level so my front tires are 3" off the ground. This loop is forested so there are only a few spots that can recieve satellite reception. I would give it a higher rating if the sites were more level. We camped at Springhill COE in a Motorhome.

What a little gem!! Nice setting in the forest with view of the river though the trees. We were in the B-loop. Not quite level back-in but leveled off easily. No sewer but water & 50AMP. Easy to follow signage. Only noise was with the planes over-head on approach to Arrowhead Assault & Chaffe Airforce base. But those stopped by 9PM. We camped at Springhill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Springhill is another well designed COE park. Campground roads were worn, but in good repair. Interior roads were easy to navigate. Sites were not all level, but we were able to level easily. Many sites were directly along a creek which feeds into the Arkansas River with great views. Some things showed wear, including the picnic table on our site. Fishing and mountain biking are popular in this park. We camped at Springhill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Nearby Fort Smith offered a number of activities for understanding the history of the area and its relationship to the "Indian Territories" (modern day Oklahoma). Don't miss the National Historic Site with its excellent presentations on the role of Fort Smith in the settlement of the west. In addition, we found good shopping, entertainment and dining in the region.

What a little gem of a place. Am afraid to write a good review because that will send folks here. Loop A has nice river views and quiet. Only 30 amps on this loop. Loop B is nice but the spaces look very uneven and some looked unusable. When making reservations be sure to check that the site has water some do not. Close to Ft Smith. When booking this site I was mainly looking for value and didn't expect much for just $9.00 but were we ever surprised! I had chosen a spot that backed up to the water and the site and park are beautiful! Couldn't have asked for more. Even if we had to pay the full rate of $18.00 it would have been a good value. I just wish I could have given the park a 10 rating but it does not have sewer.

Also the park is close to Ft. Smith to go into town to tour the old fort. Very interesting and worth the time. We camped at Springhill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We enjoyed this park. Friendly Work Campers. We happened to pick one of few sites without water. But we bought an extra length of hose and shared with the neighbor, no problem. Our site was level and nice and long. We made contact with some of the volunteers through RVillage and were invited to a birthday party. Lots to see and do in Russellville which is not far. The campground was nice and quiet. Some of the sites are not very level, pick carefully. We camped at Springhill COE in a Motorhome.

Easy access to and in the park with our 40'+ RV but our back-in site (B3) was at a 90 degree angle from the road; not an overly hard site to back in but a little angle would have been nice. "B" section sites are wooded with 50 amp electric and most (but not all) sites have water. "A" section has wider paved sites with less overhead cover along the water but only 30 amp electric and most (but not all) sites have water. Very helpful and friendly woman at the front access gate / booth. Quiet at night. Only a few minutes away from Fort Smith proper. We would stay again. We camped at Springhill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We always enjoy COE campgrounds. We stayed in the "B" loop, which had 50 amp water and electric. The site was grass and stone/sand......not a problem until it rained, and it got a little mucky. The water and electric worked as it should, and we had to use our portable satellite dome as we had heavier tree cover (great for shade!). The "A" loop is mostly 30amp electric service/water, but the sites are concrete, and there is a better view of the water. We would try to stay in that section next time we are in the area. Highly recommend! We camped at Springhill COE in a Motorhome.

Stayed on the "A" site (near the lock & dam). Since it's a Corp of Engineers park none of the sites have sewer, but all in the "A" sites have both 30 & 50 amp as well as water. The dump station is near the front gate and fairly easy to get a long 5th wheel into. Very peaceful with a backwater bay behind the sites. About a five minute walk to the playground and pavilion/open grassy field. While the lock is active with a highway over the top of the dam the noise wasn't noticeable at night. The "B" side the sites are among the trees; while beautiful some are a little challenging for the longer trucks & trailers to back into. I would recommend if your in the area.
