This is a wildlife refuge with about 100 rescued animals currently. It specializes in lions and tigers but includes bears, bobcats, leopards, coatis, and more. It has six RV sites and some cottages and tent cottages. For the RVs it has 20/30/50 amp power and water but no sewers or dump. Staff was great. Sites are grass and fairly level. It has bar-none the best wifi we've encountered. It is a lovely setting, quiet with the lion chatting to add character. The cost is high but you get good value. You can do the self-guided tour when the compound's open and take the guided tour ($20/person). And your stay helps support this worthy place. We camped at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

My wife and I took our two year old to see the big cats. Stayed two nights it was great. We could hear the Lions & Tigers. Everyone was very nice the whole place was mostly clean and safe. They had a fish pond that was neglected and a deck of some flavor that was coming from together to apart that was not safe for a two year old. But overall it was a great experience and have recommended it to many people. I will go again. We camped at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in a Travel Trailer.

Camping here was a truly unique experience. There are only 6 RV/Tent sites available, and they are adjacent to the area housing the big cats. The closest site is just a few feet away from the tiger cages. As campers, we had late afternoon and early morning access to the sanctuary area for self-guided tours. The staff was amazingly informative as we watched them feeding the bears and preparing for the day's public tours. The restrooms and showers were clean, but located on the other side of the sanctuary welcome center, a ways away from the campsitea. After the staff went home we walked the grounds, watched a lovely sunset, enjoyed a glass of wine and finally fell asleep listening to the occasional roar of a lion or the chuffing of a nearby tiger. We felt as if we were in a jungle somewhere. This was a memorable experience that we would love to repeat one day. We camped at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in a Motorhome.

It was an amazing experience to camp here. This refuge houses big cats and bears. Our Site Number 1 was located behind tigers Emmy and BamBam. We frequently heard the roaring of lions. We were told we'd see deer and coyotes at night around the campground, too. There are 6 sites and a few tenting sites. There is no TV, cable or internet. Our sewer hookup was located behind our camper instead of the side, but we were only visiting 1 night. Remember, the reason you're camping here is for the experience of camping alongside big cats and bear. The staff here is very nice and informative and you can see they love what they do.
