Area A has all the highly desirable sites for large trailers and motor homes. Book well in advance if you want a weekend. I stayed from Sunday through Thursday and was able to get a nice pull through with all the hookups. The programs presented by park interpreters are very good for both children and adults. The trails are very nice and there are so many that everyone can find one or more suited to their ability (even wheelchair accessible). The swimming pool is huge and had 3 life guards on duty as well as a slide and diving board. Pedal boat and fishing boat rentals are available. The restaurant at the lodge is fantastic. No trip is complete without a visit to the store about a mile east of the campground that sells fudge and ice cream. We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful treed park, we were unable to get a lake front site - definitely the preferred area for larger 5th wheels and motor homes ( Loop A). Our site was spacious but unlevel, several boards needed to rectify. Other sites appeared to be quite level. Park is clean and well laid out. Access to the sites is a breeze. However the mountain drive up / down may cause some trepidation. We had no problem - 41 ft motorhome towing jeep. Great paved walking / biking trail going from campground to several points of interest and lodge. Will definitely return. We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Motorhome.

We like the park. It's beautiful and has lots of amenities for a state park. If you enjoy hiking or have a motorized wheelchair or a bike, this is a good place for you. The park rangers were all extremely nice and helpful. Lots of shade for the camping spots. However, we are physically unable to do a lot of hiking and don't own a motorized wheelchair. The closest camp spots to the pool and playground were a little over 1/4 mile away. That's too much of a hike for my husband. Many of the RV spots looked to be fairly level, but the one we were given was so sloped that even with our front levelers all the way out, we were still at a bad slope. Our refrigerator didn't want to cool due to that, so we only stayed the one night. Our daughter enjoyed the playground the one night we were there. We did not try out the pool. We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Motorhome.

Even though we are from out of state they gave us a senior discount. This is the best State Park we've stayed in. Large cement pull through sites with full hook up. Great trails and many activities. They have a lodge with a nice restaurant on site. The sunrises and sunsets at this park are outstanding. We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful state park high on a mountain. Hiking is amazing. Well spaced campsites. Loop A has FHU and some sites are next to a smallish lake. Loop B, C , and D have W/E. B is a bit more open and grassy. C and D are quite wooded with smaller sites. B loop has some sites that are quite small and unappealing, and some that are pretty nice. We were in 44 loop B, which is very nice and level and large. Tried online reservations which was too cumbersome. It is a better idea to call for reservations in order to insure a site to fit your RV. Verizon phone signal good. Several tv channels with antenna. We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Wonderful state park and great place to camp. Loop A is the preferred loop with full hook ups and some sites have view of lake. These sites are all quite spacious also. There are 3 other loops all with water and 30 amp electric. Loop B has a variety of site sizes and quality, many look to be pretty nice. We were quite happy with our site in Loop B. Loops C & D are very secluded with trees, and the sites are smaller. Perfect for small trailers or tents. Hiking trails are great, bike path is really nice. We did all the trails except the long boy scout trail, and had no problem with any (we're in our 60's and nonathletic). Verizon signal was good and several OTA TV stations. Highway 154 enters the park from either east or west and has ridiculously tight switchback turns and very steep grade. Highway 155 enters the park from the southwest part of the park, and is much less steep with no hairpin curves at all. Though it took us several miles out of the way, we opted for 155 (connecting to highway 10) and probably ended up the same time-wise. We will definitely return to this lovely campground. We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There is an overflow camping area if you need to stay an extra night, on grass with electric.

I saw one of the other reviews about avoiding 154 into the park, I missed the 247 turn off (chatting) and next thing I see are the warning signs for Steep Grades and Winding Roads. No choice but to keep going. Was not too bad, a little excitement to end the day. As we were turning a corner I thought "that jeep looks just like ours" and it was... a few tight turns. We made it...

This is a very popular state park which was booked solid on the weekend that we were passing through en-route to Hot Springs. ALL sites here are reservable, but was told there was an overflow area that offered electric & water but not sewer in an open field area. Took a chance & arrived at park at about 1:00 pm on Friday afternoon. We were able to occupy a site in Loop A with electric & water but it was next to the highway & the walking & biking trail. The highway closed daily at 10:00 pm so privacy was more of an issue than road noise. We did check out the overflow area & actually, it was pretty nice. It even offered a view of the lake that the campsites in Loops A-D did not offer. There are many Ranger programs available. We attended one in the evening about the owls in Jean Petit. BE SURE to make a point to visit the Petit Jean burial site to see breathtaking views of the valley below!!!! We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Motorhome.

We have been going up to Arkansas every spring and fall for the past 20 years. We usually stay in Russellville and drive to Petit Jean (which is not all that far away) to hike the wonderful trails. We especially like the Seven Hollows trail, however, we only get as far as the Grotto now. Crawling up the rocks to the turtle rocks has become difficult. Cedar Falls is also nice but it can be hard going up and down the 1/4 mile to get down there. Also, people should have excellent hiking shoes. I have seen people in flip flops! Not a good thing. We did buy a travel trailer in 2014 and in 2015 we took it to Petit Jean to meet friends that came down from Chicago in their RV. It was a nice stay but it was on Memorial weekend. We decided we wanted to come up to Petit Jean in 2017 and found if we reserved right away we could get a spot on the lake. There is a lot to do if you are a hiker, walker or just want to relax at the lake. We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you are a hiker, this park is for you. Seven Hollows is 4.5 miles and a wonderful trail. We have been coming here for 20 years + now and we only get as far as the Grotto for we can not navigate the rock climb to the turtle rocks. But even going as far as the Grotto is nice. Cedar Falls too although it can be strenuous. It is best to have good hiking shoes for this.

Hats off to the State park system. This is one of the most well run parks I have visited. The scenery is beautiful - if you book early enough you can get a lake view. They easily accommodated our 45 ft MH and tow car in a pull thru place. TONS of room between spaces and very private. Great utilities but no cable and a lot of trees. We have been to many, many private parks that were not as well run and pretty as this. One of the best parks and values around. Lots of great day hikes 5 minutes away. Restaurant choices limited - town of Morrilton is about 40 minutes away with local department stores, auto parts and decent fast food and a few local restaurants. Do yourself a favor - book a stay at this park. We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The lodge at the Campground has a pretty good restaurant. Great view of the mountains. Not inexpensive but we enjoyed a break from BBQ There is a stretch of road about 3 miles long with a VERY twisty and narrow road - some low overhanging branches (we were 13.5 ft) but not a problem is you take it slow.

This is a beautiful old state park. It is well maintained. Our pull through site was level with a view of the lake and the hook ups all worked fine. We had reserved a site with water and electric only asked upon arrival if there were any pull throughs and was able to upgrade to full hook ups upon request. Loop A has all the pull through sites. Loops B and C are back in only and not as spacious as loop A. We could only get one station on our TV antenna. AT&T cell and data worked fine. While I gave the showers and restrooms overall clean ratings, they were not the cleanest we've experienced as in other Arkansas state parks. Coming in from Morrilton the grade is very steep on Hwy 154 for about a mile with one hairpin turn. Easily manageable even with a 35 ft TT and decent control equipped F250. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We spent MLK weekend at Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas. It's about an hour northwest of Little Rock in the Ouachita Mountains. It was a beautiful park with lots of very interesting hikes and gorgeous scenery! The campground was well cared for and clean, especially the bathrooms. We had a great time, definitely among the best places we've camped in this area. We'd love to go back more in season. It got down to about 19 degrees at night. The city water faucet froze, as well as our water hose and gray water tank. Definitely learned to pay more attention to the overnight temps!

Some quirks:

1. There is a small airport just across the lake from the campground. Be prepared for some low fly-by's. No noise at night, though. The airport may be day-only.

2. A surprising number of campers left their sites without cleaning up trash. Campground staff picked it up.

3. Had to buy Friday night even though we originally planned on arrivng Sarurday morning. We wound up driving in Friday night. Not a good idea due to the large number of deer along the roads in this area of Arkansas. Even hit one at low speed. We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Travel Trailer.
