We stayed two nights in June of 2018. This park was completely rebuilt about 10 years ago so it is set up for large modern RVs and travel trailers but it only has about 30 RV/travel trailer sites. Every site is awesome! There is more than the standard amount of space between them and 2 or 3 are pull-throughs. We used site #27 and it was nearly level. The showers were clean and well maintained. There is a nice victor's center, pool, cabins and marina. The park has a few hiking trails that join the property and they are great. This park is first class. We camped at Lake Fort Smith State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Fort Smith State Park was right on our track and had such high marks, we couldn't pass it up even though it would just be for one night. My only concern for our 35-foot motorhome was: were the roads going to be too difficult? The answer is, definitely not. Yes, there are a couple of roads which are narrow, but not too narrow, and the speed limits are low so we felt it was pretty easy to get there and navigate within the park, even in our Class A. The park is beautiful, the office people were friendly and helpful, the Visitors Center is quite nice (but not much in the way of necessities), and our site had great hookups and was very large. The site had a firepit with grill and a picnic table. Did I mention it was beautiful? There was no cell service and no WiFi where our site was, but there was some WiFi at the Visitors Center, just 50 yards away from our site. We did not use the restrooms. Overall, we greatly regretted only having time for one night, but loved it. We'll be back if we can! We camped at Lake Fort Smith State Park in a Motorhome.

We discovered this beautiful place on our drive across country. Unfortunately, we live too far to make it a routine spot, but if we did, we would. It is a perfect park for RVers: spacious spots, great hookups, nice fire rings and best of all, low lighting so you feel safe but can still see the amazing sky at night, immaculate and warm bath houses, cool walking paths and of course, the beautiful lake. Our spot was 2 levels which was nice but it might be hard if you have a problem with stairs. I believe there are others that are only one level. The Visitor's Center was very nice as well with it's neat small museum and gift shop. Very friendly staff as well. We stayed there in our motorhome but could see it would be good for tents and big rigs as well. We camped at Lake Fort Smith State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful state park. Well-maintained and very clean. We hiked along the trail to see the frozen waterfall, but couldn't get down to the water via the trail. Nice view, although the trees mostly block the lake view. Very quiet. The Visitor's Center is state of the art. We would stay here again. We camped at Lake Fort Smith State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is one of the nicest RV parks you will find. First of all I had a paved back in site that was dead on level. Which was nice seeing, how my hydraulic leveling jacks would not work when we arrived. Also every side has a level tent pad and picnic table with fire ring and grill, all very level even though the whole campground is very hilly. Nice hiking trails. You will love this place. We camped at Lake Fort Smith State Park in a Motorhome.

The scenery is stunning and the park is very clean. The spaces on one loop are very close together and afford very little privacy. Some of the facilities were unavailable to campers, but their use was allowed for "private guests" by the Park Ranger.

The sites with 50 amps are lovely- lush and private, nestled in the trees. The 30 amp ones are like a cross between a Wal-Mart parking lot and an apartment complex where you bring your own home. We camped at Lake Fort Smith State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This campground holds to the expectations of a State Park. Plenty of room to maneuver and park at sites. A camping atmosphere in the woods and wildlife is plentiful. The roads and sites are asphalt and concrete. Grills, fire rings and utilities except for water pressure is up to spec and conveniently located to the site. Most sites have tent pads and ample room for the other camping necessities. The park is well maintained and has amenities for all campers. It is on our return list. We camped at Lake Fort Smith State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice, quiet State Park. Verizon cell service did not work, but friends AT&T worked fine. Good spacing between sites. I would suggest you bring what you need as the nearest grocery store is about a 30 minute drive. We stayed 4 nights with a RV club and will be returning. One of the best State Parks I have stayed in. I bet there is 40 yards between sites so plenty of privacy. The lake is nice with rentals available. Access is a winding and hilly road but it is the Ozarks. No worries though it is easily navigable no matter what kind of RV you have. Didn't think I would get Dish but surprise surprise it locked right in even with the tree cover. We camped at Lake Fort Smith State Park in a Motorhome.

We stay here as often as possible in our RV and have also stayed in their cabins. We run and mountain bike the new Boston Mountain Trail, rich with water crossings in the spring! Hike the Ozark Highlands Trail. Awesome campsites and very nice cabins. Beautiful color in the fall. Great pool and kayaking is available. What a great state park. Seriously, this IS the state park other states should try to emulate. Gorgeous setting, amazing sites, on the small side, super quiet, with some beautiful hiking trails. 30 sites total, 20 full hookups, 10 with water and electric only. Full hookup sites are mostly bigrig friendly, but a few are too short or not level, so check them out before deciding. The three pull through sites had great views of the lake, but had questionable approaches/departure hills. We didn't have reservations, but arrived on a Tuesday and were told to drive through and pick a spot from ones available..tough choice, as the are all wonderful, but ended up at site 18. Wow!! Flat, lots of concrete, and huge. The water and electric only sites didn't seem very level, and I don't think any of them could handle a rig larger then 30'. Wish we could have stayed longer, but the park was booked solid over the weekend. The only downside was no Verizon coverage. We camped at Lake Fort Smith State Park in a Motorhome.

We were very pleased with the camp ground. All the other reviews were correct on how clean it is. The parks workers check the trash at least 3 times a day and there is absolutely no litter. It is also very quiet and no wild or misbehaved campers. The restrooms were always very clean. The only reasons I didn't give the park a 10 was the cellular service, access to the bath houses and convenience for food and supplies. Verizon doesn't work, but AT&T had about 2 bars of LTE. There are only two bath houses. If you are in sites 1 through 9 it isn't a far walk. We were in site 15 and the bath house was about 150 yards away, as the crow flies, but if you went through the woods to get to it, the climb is about 60 feet high at about a 50 degree angle through uncleared land. You have to walk around in the road which adds quite a distance. We found a Dollar General in Mountainburg, which is only about 10 or so minutes away. It is well stocked and would have just about anything you would need. The sites themselves were very large and laid out well. I had to raise my rig 1 and 3/4 inches to get level side to side and lower the nose quite a bit to get level nose to tail, but nothing severe, in site 15. The sewer hookup was at the end of the pad and I had to use an extension to get to it. The electric hookups are lit and have 50, 30 and 20 amp plugs with breakers. The water pressure was reduced to 50 psi at the outlet. As far as the steep grade at the park, it is no worse than the long grades you will face on I-49 getting there. The road getting in to the park is wide and well maintained. As long as you have an adequately powered tow vehicle with proper trailer brakes, you won't have any problem. I got off I-49 at Chester and it was a short drive over to US 71. None of the grades or curves were no worse than on Mt. Magazine or in the Jasper, AR area, actually less. The visitor center is very nice and the lake has a great boat ramp with lots of parking. Love this park! We camped at Lake Fort Smith State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Sites 21 through 30 don't have sewer. Try to get a spot from 1 to 8 or 9 if you use the bathhouse. Alma, about 25 minutes away, is the closest location for a sit down chain restaurant. There is Granny's Cafe on 71 north of the park just south of Winslow and a Hamburger/ice cream joint in Mountainburg (only open during the day during the week and closed on Sunday's)

Arkansas did it right when they built this park, especially this RV camp site. Fantastic camp sites. The absolute cleanest shower and restroom facilities I've ever seen anywhere in the world. I cannot say enough good things about Lake Ft. Smith State Park. It's like they had a dream about what the ideal RV camping area would be like and then they went and built it. All paved sites with lighted electrical hook ups. Tent sites built right next to each RV site. Fire pits, grill, picnic table, and wonderful 360 degree views. Hiking trails are all around. The visitor center is very nice and the staff was extremely friendly. Paved and curbed roads all through the park make access easy even in wet weather. We had all the network channels on the antenna and AT&T wireless and data service was excellent. We will positively return to this well kept Arkansas secret. We camped at Lake Fort Smith State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

You do need to stock up before heading to this park. It is a bit of a drive to the nearest retail stores. If you have to go, I recommend you head south back to Alma, AR. I recommend accessing the park from Chester, AR rather than Winslow. Hwy 71 North is okay between the park and Winslow, but from Winslow over to I-49 (I-540) across Hwy 74 narrows considerably and has no shoulders with lots of curves.
