We were looking for someplace we haven't been before within just a few hours of home, for a quick, short fall break trip. This place hit all the marks. Located just a few miles off of I 40, it's easy and convenient to get to and from. Beautiful trees and located right on the Arkansas River. The kids had a blast and mom and dad got some much-needed downtime. We were in loop B, backed up to the river, with a playground only a few sites over. The train on the other side of the river can be annoying, especially if you weren't expecting that, but it's really not as bad as some people make it out to be. The kids enjoyed the river, fishing and watching the barges go by. The weather was beautiful, and the huge old trees provided great shade. Definitely a place will be back to. We camped at Aux Arc COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are stores nearby if you forget anything, and plenty of places to go eat, hike, etc. Devils Den is only about 45 minutes away, if you want to go check that out while you're in the area. Gorgeous area.

Backed up to river, nice park. Typical back in sites in loop "F" and side of road away from river. On river side a bit different. A single drive way accommodates 2 sites in a Y configuration. OK, but coming in and looking for site many available sites were blocked by vehicle or objects from the occupied side of the Y. We camped at Aux Arc COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

I love this place. Spent 4 days here in July. Very quiet and peaceful. Used as a stopping point between Memphis and Branson and it turned out to be a nice surprise. Sites are large with plenty of room between them. Very easy to get to from 40. Road through campground is wide and it was very easy to back into my site. Nice location right on the water. I had electrical problems with the pedestal but 30 mins after I told them at the office someone was there to fix it. They replace the breaker, 30 amp plug and some wiring. Everything worked great after that. Bathrooms and showers are nice but they are a hot box in the summer. No ventilation. Gave it a 9 only because there are no sewer hookups at the sites. But they do have 2 dump stations. There's a boat ramp near the back of the campground so there is some traffic from local fishermen. We camped at Aux Arc COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Nearby town Ozark has a nice grocery store. About a 10 minutes away. Gas and diesel right up the street at two small gas stations. Be sure to take a couple nearby scenic drives. (not while towing, lots of hills and curves) 45 minutes away is Mt. Magazine and the Lodge at Mount Magazine, a nice place to visit and do a little hiking. If you like to fish this is a great campground.

Roomy, paved campsites with lots of trees, right on the Arkansas River, just above the dam. Watched a couple of barges go through the lock. Lots of Canada Geese around. Close to small town of Ozark with several good restaurants. Long walk to dumpsters from central sites. We camped at Aux Arc COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

In June you need to stay in shady spot not necessarily on the water. The gnats and geese are awful. The geese poop is everywhere. Got a few TV stations with antennae which you need when gnats finally run you in. They have multiple speed bumps which help because there are lots of cars and trucks driving through. The train didn't wake me night one but did night two. Otherwise quiet enough. In section F which in nonreservable you will hear the dam roar but in section B there are more screaming kids because of playground. Overall it wasn't noisy. The only thing for adults is of course fishing. We bank fished and due to large chunk rocks lost a ton of hooks/weights. Caught one fish. I would recommend this as a fall/spring place. Office lady is super nice. We camped at Aux Arc COE in a Travel Trailer.

A very nice park on the banks of the Arkansas River, next to a dam and lock that provided some nice sights of a barge going upriver. Sites are spacious and well-shaded. We made reservations online some few weeks before and everything was in order when we arrived. The staff at the office was especially friendly and helpful and we wished that our plans for a one night stay could have been extended! The sites are spacious and practically perfectly level. Water and electricity. No wifi. Dump station on the way out. Everything was peaceful and convenient. There were a number of other campers there, but it was really quiet. We camped at Aux Arc COE in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

River traffic had been suspended the day before our arrival due to heavy rains and high waters. However, the morning of our departure, traffic was moving again and it was such a peaceful view to see the barge heading upriver.

Wonderful campground with spacious, asphalt level site. Nice pole to hang a lantern on. Covered picnic table and a fire ring. LOTS of room between sites. As others have said - lots of trees - we had site F16 and were able to get satellite TV great! Showers are in a typical bathhouse type setting. Clean and adequate - nothing fancy but fine for us. The only drawback was that all the sites are back-in sites. We had fun watching the barges go through the locks on the dam. We camped at Aux Arc COE in a Travel Trailer.

What a great find for a great value. There are very few amenities here but it's $20 per night and what a great view. While we were entering, we had some issues navigating because the back in site was across from someone who parked on the street, but it was easily resolved by that same neighbor who helped direct us in the front while one of us were in the back. The view was great, the people were great, the park was clean and quiet. The site was incredibly large! We would definitely stay here again if we ever happen to be in the Ozarks. The only negative was no sewer but not a problem if you're only staying for a brief time. There's a dump station but it isn't exactly ideal for big rigs. We camped at Aux Arc COE in a Motorhome.

Loved this campground. Might have been able to get satellite TV access if we had stayed on the river side of the campground and settled for 30 amp. Beautiful views, level sites, nice gravel/patio area, grass all around and freshly mowed. It was very nice and well maintained. The discount with the American the Beautiful Pass was a real bonus. Helpful staff and friendly. We liked it a lot. We camped at Aux Arc COE in a Motorhome.

Spacious, paved, level sites. Super quick check-in. Combination of wooded and open sites. Quiet, great river views. Nearby train is surprisingly loud as the sound appears to carry across the river. Great overnight stop if you are passing through. It's not far off expressway. Kids enjoyed playing by river. We camped at Aux Arc COE in a Travel Trailer.

I am a frequent visitor to this park. Usually it is well mowed and trimmed. First mowing in May and contractor let much undone. Views to river are not kept clear. This visit I notice many more fishing campers. First thoughts when arriving that the place has turned into a fishcamp. Camp host very helpful and friendly. I value COE parks. Let's keep them beautiful.

Tips for other Campers:

Western Arkansas is beautiful. The namesake river, surrounding mountains, wineries, Subiaco Monestary, St. Mary Church on St. Mary's mountain, three state resort parks nearby, Ft. Smith nearby ..... I could go on and on. A countryside driving dream. Plenty of photographic opportunities. Active train traffic and working lock and dam. Fish, fish and more fish.

Thursday, June 13 - Aux Arc, Ozark Lake, COE, Ozark, AR This is an Army Corp of Engineer campground on Ozark Lake right near the town of Ozark, AR. There are 60 sites open all year with electric some with 50amp and water hookups. There is a dump station, showers and restrooms. Most of the sites sit right on the shoreline and every site has a view. Sites are shady situated in the tall trees. The Ozark Lake goes 36 miles along the Arkansas River. Along the shoreline one can find steep bluffs, tree lined banks, open farmlands and level fields. You can visit the lock and dam one mile southeast. This campground is right near the Arkansas Wine Trail along 186 and 64 and the town of Altus which is the Wine Capitol of Arkansas. Nice area and an easy drive to Hot Springs down the Moonshine Scenic Byway route 7. There are six COE managed camping areas on Ozark Lake. Nice overnight at this campground. Cost was $9 with pass. Nice park, friendly staff. If it wasn't for the train - long ones, 110 cars running 20-30 times a day, I would rate it a 10. Big sites and with a Golden Age Passport price of $10 per night. We camped at Aux Arc COE in a Motorhome.
