A very rustic campground in the sense that it takes you a long time to get out to the middle of nowhere. It's about a 200 km drive from Vancouver, BC to get there. The last 15 km is on a steep and very rough unpaved road. Almost to the park entrance you will have to pull over at The Camping Store to visit with the lady that sits there with her faithful dog. She sells everything from chips and candies to firewood. During busy season, she has a line up at the door before she opens. The camp sites are very traditional provincial park style. The difference is the remote feeling you will have once you get there. Plenty of trees will shelter you from your neighbors. Several hikes will test your abilities and the large 8 km long lake is home to several species of fish. Make sure you get your fishing license before you go. A small boat launch with a dock near the camp makes life easy. The park also rents canoes for a small fee. Watch out for the afternoon wind that will kick up. This area is prime bear habitat. We had a close encounter with a young black bear. Bear proof your campsite or you will regret it. Consider yourself warned. The park very recently installed plumbing so the water is now safe to drink and you no longer have to get it from a pump! The sani station is just inside the gates of the park and can accommodate most larger rigs. It is likely you can fit a full size motorhome in some of the sites. Our 22 foot travel trailer with tow vehicle attached fit very well. The hosts have been there for a long time and are very charming. Extremely helpful with directions. We camped at Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park in a Travel Trailer.
