Park is directly off the main road running thru town. There is a rear entrance/exit which made it much easier to leave without fighting traffic. It is basically a parking lot with some grass between sites and a few plants on the end caps. There is probably a reason there is not a picture of the park on the website. It is immediately adjacent to a grocery center next door. Overall the security of the park was ok. The sites are VERY tight - also very short. As a result most spaces have cars/trucks parked in the roadway and entering and exiting is a real chore. There are a large number of permanent/seasonal units but not unattractive. We had one of the the longest spaces - our slides were about 2 feet from the slides in the unit next door and we felt very cramped. I would call this Big Rig possible - certainly not Big Rig friendly. The front office staff was very friendly and helpful. High marks for their management. Their utilities were fine (50 amp relatively rare in Canada). Satellite worked fine. We did not see any other alternative in the area that was better and at least this had 50 amp. Same tightness comments would likely apply to longer 5th wheels. We camped at Desert Gem RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Oliver is the heart of the Canadian wine country. Many wineries to visit but this is not Napa. Mostly smaller wineries and much lower key. No dog friendly restaurants in Oliver - and the restaurants choice is pretty limited. We had better luck in the town of Penticton which is about 35 minutes away

Extremely tight sites for Big Rig back-ins. Washrooms very clean, but the park as a whole is fairly sterile. The sites are very closely spaced. We camped at Desert Gem RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

We had the best experience ever. We left a prior campground because of it's rudeness, unfriendliness, and needed to get out of there. This lady manager was awesome. She got us a site immediately, greeted us through the gate and treated with nothing but kindness. Just what we needed. She gave us suggestions of places to go. Later that evening another lady came over and helped us hook up a tv. She was determined no matter what, we would have at least one tv working. It was awesome to watch the Olympics on a US station and enjoy it. We would recommend anyone to stay here. Very accommodating. We camped at Desert Gem RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

We visited many of the wineries around the area and found all of them friendly with many of having bistro's for a nice lunch. The views are beautiful and we loved the whole area.

Mostly concrete and asphalt with small grass strips. Almost no shade trees. Sites are close together. Close to grocery, etc. Restrooms were very clean. Staff was friendly. We stayed at this park as a way point on our way to a destination. It worked well for that but would not stay here for any other reason. Too much asphalt and concrete. We camped at Desert Gem RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Desert Gem? I think gem is a bit of a stretch. Located right in town of Oliver and countless wineries. Park is all cement and pavement with minimal shade. Good hookups, but fairly close quarters. We were parked near a group of several monster class A diesel pushers traveling together. Drinking and loud music would commence at noon or before and go into the later hours. We complained to management but nothing done. Social aspect tolerable, but having music ramped up to boom across the park not acceptable. Certainly tainted our visit here. Pet friendly with good access to outside park with doggy bags. We camped at Desert Gem RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Shopping, e.g. groceries, Cdn Tire and Marks within walking distance. Wonderful little bistro called Cock and Bull nearby serving excellent breakfasts. Many world class wineries within 15 kms. Sonora Room at Burrowing Owl Winery great for lunch and dinners.

Arrived to find our reserved spot overtaken by neighboring rig and were asked to wait until owners returned. Refused and were offered a tight spot with a slope but not any of other unoccupied sites. Little choice so we squeezed in, then the water hook-up didn't work and we had to be connected to water in site behind us. Received a reduced rate for our troubles, but not very happy with service. (Several better sites were still unoccupied the next day.) We camped at Desert Gem RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Clean laundry and clean park. Sites are very, very narrow with little space between you and neighbor. Tow vehicles will not fit in the spaces and must be parked cross wise at an angle. Management ignored our request to be given a site next to friends despite making the request months in advance and having sites available during our stay. We camped at Desert Gem RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

We were here in the previous fall and again in the spring. The sites are excellent but I might not like all the concrete in summer. It is very handy to a big grocery store, liquor and a Canadian Tire store for all the things you might have forgotten. There is a great bike trail not too far away. Adult campground that is very calm and peaceful...see previous reviews for a good description. We have stayed in all the campgrounds in Penticton but could not get in due to needing a five day commitment. This campground is just the opposite of all the noise and chaos of the Penticton campgrounds in the summer. You will love it. Will return. We camped at Desert Gem RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Nice small park directly off Hwy #97 in Oliver. Also has the airport directly behind, but road noise and aircraft noise is surprisingly low. The park is spotlessly clean and very well maintained. It is mostly asphalt, with strips of well maintained grass between the sites. Our site was a pull through and was level. Interior roads are excellent. Services are all at a single location, at each site, and are well placed. Power - 50, 30 and 15 amp available at each site. Water pressure is good, but water has lots of minerals. Cable TV has almost 60 channels. Wireless signal strength is excellent, but internet access is periodically lost. They have a small clubhouse at the office, which also has an outside covered area with picnic tables and BBQ's. Only downside is the sites are rather close. Nice park close to a number of wineries in the Southern Okanagan. Grocery store within walking distance. We will stay here again. We camped at Desert Gem RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is the 4th park we tried for the night, for a variety of reasons. It is very functional but primarily all paved with strips of grass and newer trees. Hard surface is great for leveling and walking about. Adequate room for slides and enough room between neighbors. It does have one of the nicest bathrooms we have seen. It does not have a dog walk area inside the park: go out the rear gate and walk along the road which we felt very safe doing (dogs may pick up stickers). The park is located next to a shopping area with grocery store and a Tim Horton's donut shop. It was pretty quiet: much appreciated after 3 nights with little sleep. We would not hesitate to stay here again if our other choices were not available. It is a good stop. We camped at Desert Gem RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Nicely maintained park. It has some grass strips here and there but it is mainly all asphalt. The spaces are a little close for big rigs with multiple slides. Staff was very friendly. We camped at Desert Gem RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Had phoned for a reservation the day before we needed it. They would return call to confirm reservation: the call never came. Stopped the next day, they did not have a pull through, had just rented the last one. I asked why my reservation was not confirmed by a call back, as per voice mail instructions. They apologized but could not give a reason. We were offered a back-in but they are not big rig friendly. This is a very tight park with very little room. Can not comment on park, but if the reservation system is any indication of how it is managed: move on. We camped at Desert Gem RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
