$30 Cdn. We were travelling back from Spokane and decided to camp one more night. Since it was a British Columbia long weekend, the chance of finding a spot was slim to none. To our luck we found the last site in the Provincial park. The big draw here is the Kettle River. This time of the year it is slow moving and perfect for floating on tubes. Lots of families. The site was huge. The closest neighbour was 100 ft away. Unfortunatly, this part of the campground took a direct hit from a forest fire a few years ago and burnt trees are prominent. This site, along with most Provincial sites, have no hook-ups. There are water taps around and a dump station on the way out. The town of Rock Creek is a short drive away for supplies. We camped at Kettle River Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

We stay here every year with the kids and grand kids, everyone loves the river, swimming, floating, fishing or just lazing. The campground is slowing getting back to its old self after the 2015 forest fire. The bike park and group sites have been greatly improved and the over-all general condition of the camp is good. Mind you it is a rustic setting and there are a few bugs. The first come non reservation area has a ways to go after the fire but is still quite camp-able. We camped at Kettle River Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

As previous reviewer said, this campground was spared major forest fire damage last year, although the reminders are all around. It's a beautiful spot on the Kettle River, and the staff we met were all pleasant and helpful. There is one large restroom with dishwashing area, flush toilets and showers, as well as several pit toilets, a kids' play area and the Trans Canada Trail runs right beside it. The restrooms are clean, although we had different experiences with hot water, convenience, etc. Our big complaint is that we made a reservation and were severely overcharged -- as well as the overnight fee, they charged us for our RV and for our toad, for an additional $12 per night. The only way to get a refund is through the onsite ranger (which we were able to do, but we would have been out of luck if we'd waited till we got home). Also, they charge you a $6 reservation fee PER NIGHT (maximum $18), which we haven't encountered anywhere else. And they charge for dumping even when you're paying overnight fees. If you make a reservation, look carefully at what you're paying for before you give them your credit card info. I think we'll try a commercial site next time where you get more bang for your buck and can still enjoy the great outdoors. (Rate is in Canadian dollars.) We camped at Kettle River Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Rate shown is for resident senior off season and includes reservation fee. This campground was closed last September due to a wildfire that destroyed some of the park. After restoring the burned out campsites (less than 10 I believe) and cutting down damaged trees, the park was re-opened earlier this month. The section down by the river where we stayed was unaffected by the fire. Our site was a large, level, gravel back-in with lots of privacy due to the surrounding forest. Due to a few sloughs in our section there were mosquitoes. The more open sections further from the river shouldn't be as buggy. It included a picnic table and fire ring. No hookups at this park. Water available at the two island dump station and several locations around the campground loops. Pit and flush toilets are located throughout the park. Plenty of trails including the Trans Canada Trail (which used to be the Kettle Valley Railway). Along the river is a small beach. We saw several people fly fishing there as well. The playground has a series of bike ramps that have sand which got tracked into the restrooms, but the toilets and showers were still clean. We enjoyed our stay at this park and wouldn't hesitate to come back again. We camped at Kettle River Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

You can launch a canoe, kayak, or tube at the park and head downriver towards Rock Creek. Take your bike along the Trans Canada Trail which extends on the former railway bed west towards Penticton and east to Castlegar.

Date of Stay: August, 2009 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

A very nice Provincial campsite. Rustic. Divided into 2 section, 1 along the Kettle River – very private sites, reservations only – and the other in a more open, arid area with large pine trees, non-reservations only. Picnic table & fire pits at each site and wood can be purchased from the camp host. Lots of hiking & biking trails with swimming, rafting & fishing in the river. Central water, no showers, pit toilets, sewer dump ($2). A very popular campsite. $19 per night, $6.50 reservation fee for the first 3 nights. We camped at Kettle River Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.
