Although the post office says this park is in Victoria, it is actually in Metchosin, about a 15-minutes drive by car. It's a fantastic location, in a small bay, and the park is right on a small beach. The downside is that at times the smell of rotting seaweed is very akin to sewage. The sites seem fairly level, if close together. The systems all worked fine, but the wifi is terrible, unless you go to the clubhouse, which closes at 8:30. The management is efficient, but more business-like than friendly. The clubhouse features a large table, for example, with a permanent "Reserved" sign on it. And there were lots of signs with lots or rules, some of which don't appear to be enforced. So a mixed bag for us: very clean, great location, great sunsets, bad smell, lotsa rules. The rate is CDN$. Not sure we'd come back. We camped at Weir's Beach RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

* My Chosen Restaurant, a 5-minute drive, was good. * Lots of great geocaching in the area. * Butterfly Gardens in Brentwood Bay, was a big hit. * Esquimalt Lagoon in Victoria is great for birding. * Fisgard Lighthouse and Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Monument was quite interesting.

Friendly competent management. Showers are free - no time limit. Very quiet at night (and day). Beautiful oceanfront location. Wide fine grain sandy beach facing south. View of the lights of Victoria at night. Ocean beaches in Canada are not privately owned but this might as well be because it is nearly inaccessible to the public unless they come through the resort. Our rate was $42 CAD and I roughly converted it to $33 USD. 10% discount to Good Sam members (we are not). We camped at Weir's Beach RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Handy for touring west along the West Coast Road, or accessing the circle RV route (Port Renfrew, Lake Cowichan, Duncan, Victoria and back). A 20-min drive into downtown Victoria.

The My-Chosen Restaurant (a play on the village name of Metchosin where it is) is a very short drive and is great. They also deliver superb pizza right to your RV site. The entire area and farther west is very arts and crafts oriented.

Overall Rating:

We camped at the ocean sites and were disappointed. The smell of seaweed was overwhelming and we had to keep our dog out of the water. Sites are very close together, the bit of grass that had been planted was long gone, wifi was poor despite being close to the clubhouse, restrooms were spotless but very limited - 1 shower, 1 toilet. Sorry but for C$42. I expect more. Despite the above, even in October it was almost full. Nope, we wouldn't stay here again. We camped at Weir's Beach RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

This park is situated right on the ocean. There is a very nice natural beach with plenty of very fine soft sand. It would be better if the jetsam and flotsam were removed. This area is prone to sea lettuce washing ashore so at certain times can be a bit smelly. We had an ocean front site (number 6) which was plenty wide with our opposing slides. Water, sewer, and electric were well placed and worked as expected. Free Internet was terribly slow. Not worth the effort as we used our own. Cell service was excellent. Limited channels available over the air and there is no cable. This is a very pet friendly park. Dogs are allowed on the beach! (We did not notice any dog poop anywhere.) There is no playground as such but the beach and a very large grassed play area were well used by children. We paid $52.50 for the Premium Ocean View with a Good Sam discount. We would have given this place a 10 if the sea lettuce had been cleaned up and the Internet was better. We camped at Weir's Beach RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2013 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Access from Victoria is via very pretty little winding country road. It is paved and follows the coast for about 26 Km through the little community of Metchosin. The drive is worth it. Just don’t be in a rush. The park is laid out in three sections. Garden, Lagoon and Ocean. We were in Garden, but would have rather been in Ocean or Lagoon. Ocean, of course, faces the Strait of Juan de Fuca with views of ocean going vessels in the distance. Check in was efficient and when complete we were handed an info package that included a list of rules that were not out of line. We were escorted to our site and guided in. (We did not ask for this service and would have rather looked after ourselves.) Sites are on the small side, but we did have room for both slides and awning. Every site has a small brick patio, picnic table and some have a fire pit (not ours). P W & S are located at the rear almost out of sight. It is big rig friendly, but there are no pull throughs. There is a nice sandy beach with shallow water even during high tide. We saw lots of children playing in the water but we felt it was too cold for us to go in. There are some sites that have obviously been taken over for the season, but none are junky and it doesn’t look like there are any permanents. The park is clean, has a club house with book exchange, TV, etc. We noted that the washrooms were clean, as were the laundry facilities. Everyone we encountered was friendly and for the most part it was a quiet stay. If you are not a dog person, perhaps you may want to give this park a pass. Dogs are allowed on the beach off leash. Our dog loved the freedom to run in the sand (but she too didn’t want to go into the water). There are a lot of dogs here, but we did not see a single pile of crap! Wi-Fi worked well (your usage is monitored). Abuse the service and you lose it). Cable (without a box) worked well. For those that need to be closer to the city of Victoria this may not be for you. This park would have been rated a 10 except the sites are on the small side, the interior roads were gravel not paved and there was an odor of rotting Sea Lettuce noticeable during low tide. All in all a very attractive park. We would happily return. We camped at Weir's Beach RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Nice out of the way park. Sites are tight but not out of line with most City type parks. Place was super clean and the office staff was extremely helpful. This used to be an Adult type resort so not much for kids, but kids are welcome and the sand beach is awesome. We camped at Weir's Beach RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Great views and sunsets. Wonderful lady was always around to help and ask what she could do to improve the park. The Bear Golf course was unbelievable with it's views and lay out a must for any golfer. Will come back again. We camped at Weir's Beach RV Resort in a Motorhome.
