Roads and sites paved and the roads are easy to get around on. Check in was a breeze however after he charged my card I was informed that the cable was out. We got to our site, a back in, with easy access and right next to the bathroom. As it's prone to do in this area it rained, not much by local standards but we are now somewhere between a rv and a boat. We are sitting large puddle that is a pain to deal with. Showers were clean and had great hot water and prett good pressure but it appears their plumber put in the faucets backwards. So if you want hot turn it to cold and vice a versa. Verizon phone and Mifi worked well and their Wifi was ok but a bit slow for everyday use. We will probably stay here again for a night so we can resupply from Costco and Safeway but not any longe than a day. Road noise wasn't too bad and the park is extremly well lit. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Motorhome.

Pro: Very close to highway access. easy to find, large RV spaces with level concrete. All utilities in excellent condition. Good Wifi and excellent Cell coverage. Pool and Rec Room available. Walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Great for overnighter. Con: Very close to the highway and road noise all night long. Reservations recommended as this place is often full. Tips for other Campers:

Summer is very busy at this park with reservations made a year in advance. Suggest you call ahead. Filled with folks trying to escape the heat of interior California. The park itself is quiet but the road noise all around it is horrendous. The fact that it has easy highway access is the same reason why the road noise is inescapable. All night long.

Arrived in Arcata and made our reservation on the phone and received good directions to the park. Staff friendly and easy check in. I think our site was #5, (pull through) which is a 30 amp site, I had an adapter so no problem, It is close to being level but I unhooked mainly to cover & lock the bed cover of our truck as the park was experiencing bicycle thefts. No reason to give a bike thief a reason to steal something else. The water spigot would not turn off so there was a two way Y shut off on the spigot, didn't have to put my own on. Grass between sites, not spacious but room enough you were not close to your neighbors dump. Quite a bit of in & out traffic until late night, but the park was quiet. The park is well kept, the men's bathroom was clean but does need updating, more for repairs then looks. We did not use the pool area or wifi, Tango wifi, not worth the effort. Have to give the park credit for admitting the bicycle theft problem, but a thief is a thief so everything you have is fair game, not some place I want to stay for more then overnight. We did not eat at the Mexican Restaurant, but may return (oh the smell made our mouths water) just to eat there. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice RV Park. Really well kept up. Unfortunately, they are having issues with bicycle theft and have a sign mentioning to leave your bikes at the office. Ours are a pain to get off, but since they are new, we decided to leave them. That night another camper who didn't, had theirs stolen. Very disappointing that they have this issue going on, know about it and can't get it stopped. Put up a gate or security? We did not feel comfortable knowing they have theft issues. We would not stay here again. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Had a bad experience on arrival. We always ask for a site for our satellite antenna when making the advanced reservation and then remind them when we arrived. They put us in a site that was covered with trees. Then they moved us to a site with overhanging trees that we couldn't get into ( and also next to an extremely trashy full-timer site). Once we were put in an acceptable site we had to remove our bikes from the rack and store them in a locked building. Our bikes were locked on the coach but they said they would cut the locks. I give them some credit for telling us about the thieves that frequent their park, but believe they should take steps to resolve the problem. After we got settled in to a nice area in a long pull-thru site all was fine. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed 13 days and got a 10% discount for being Good Sam members. The sites are mostly level, have easy hook-ups, come with a picnic table, are asphalt as are the campground roads and the campground is an easy-on and easy-off from 101. The campground feels like a park since there is so much grass and so many trees and bushes. It is well-maintained and clean. The wi-fi is Tengo - enough said. The cable TV is fine and there are lots of stations. It is close to Trinidad, Patrick's Point SP with some marvelous trails, Moonstone Beach and the Lagoons. Hammond trail is great for a walk along the beach. Eureka, Ferndale and Fortuna are close. We also liked the Loleta Cheese Factory and the cheese grill. NIce campground and we'd definitely stay here again. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Prairie Creek Redwoods SP has some wonderful trails as does the Redwoods NP. Patrick's Point SP has a wonderful Rim Trail and lots of other offshoot trails to see the ocean. There is a Sat Farmer's Mkt. Very nice old homes in town to walk by. Seascape Restaurant in Trinidad has great views and a good, filling breakfast.

We only stayed one night in space 16 (a pull-thru), in our 25' travel trailer. There were 3 of us and 2 puppies. The very friendly and helpful resident manager - He, gave us a discount, so we only paid $40, instead of the regular $40 + 12% tax. Very nice, clean, quiet park. All spaces are nice and large, flat, with grass and picnic tables. Also quite a lot of pull-thrus. We will definitely stay there again when we buzz through. After reading the other reviews, I didn't expect much. However, it turned out being a nice little park. The roads and site pads are asphate. The sites have grass and enough trees to provide shade and give the place a park like feel. The hook ups worked. The showers were clean with lots of hot water. We found the park plenty big enough to walk our dogs. The park is close to the highway, but the back sites are the only area where road noise is a problem. The WiFi was very slow. The Mexican Cantina was excellent. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed for five nights at Mad River Rapids RV Park in our 40' fifth wheel and were very satisfied with our stay. We were in site 14, a pull-through FHU site with 30 amp. Fortunately the weather was cool enough that 30 amp was sufficient for our needs. Our pull-through was gravel and was just long enough to hold our rig and tow vehicle. We had an additional car that we needed to park in the overflow area by the office. Our site was close to the office and only about six sites away from the laundry room and restrooms. The campground was tidy and well maintained. It is a short distance from the on-off ramps for Hwy 101. We felt very safe. Our wifi worked well, possibly due to being so close to the office. Short-term RVers get the sites in the middle of the campground, closest to the office. The longer-term RV area appeared tidy and we did not see any run-down units. We would return if in the area. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is convenient and easy to access. Sites are level, paved pull-throughs that are long and wide, plenty of space for our 5th wheel and pickup, with a large grassy area and picnic table. The park itself is immaculate! There is a large office/mini-mart with very limited supplies, recreation room, and library. There are 2 restroom/laundry room buildings (didn't use or check out), and long term residents appeared to be in the rear of park. WiFi is intermittent but OK. Excellent location for visiting the area. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice park on north end of Aracata, California. Looks to us that this park is about 50/50 long-term/full-time residents vs. RVers on shorther-term rentals. The park has nice paved interior roads and sites were paved also. Park was pretty well maintained. We had a back-in spot, no real room to park our TOAD, but there was parking in designated spots very close to our RV, i.e, within 100'. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed one night here on our way home to So Cal. The morning we were to leave, our bedroom slide wouldn't go all the way in. The staff went above and beyond to try to get us some mobile help. We couldn't get anyone to come out to our rig, but not for the lack of trying by the staff of the campground or ourselves. I highly recommend staying at this campground when you're in the area.
