We stayed for five nights at Mad River Rapids RV Park in our 40' fifth wheel and were very satisfied with our stay. We were in site 14, a pull-through FHU site with 30 amp. Fortunately the weather was cool enough that 30 amp was sufficient for our needs. Our pull-through was gravel and was just long enough to hold our rig and tow vehicle. We had an additional car that we needed to park in the overflow area by the office. Our site was close to the office and only about six sites away from the laundry room and restrooms. The campground was tidy and well maintained. It is a short distance from the on-off ramps for Hwy 101. We felt very safe. Our wifi worked well, possibly due to being so close to the office. Short-term RVers get the sites in the middle of the campground, closest to the office. The longer-term RV area appeared tidy and we did not see any run-down units. We would return if in the area. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is convenient and easy to access. Sites are level, paved pull-throughs that are long and wide, plenty of space for our 5th wheel and pickup, with a large grassy area and picnic table. The park itself is immaculate! There is a large office/mini-mart with very limited supplies, recreation room, and library. There are 2 restroom/laundry room buildings (didn't use or check out), and long term residents appeared to be in the rear of park. WiFi is intermittent but OK. Excellent location for visiting the area. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I could mention this about every RV park we have stayed in - UPGRADE WIFI. It seems ridiculous that we have to fight slow/non-existent wifi in all of the parks. This park is wide open and has easy access to sites. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice park on north end of Aracata, California. Looks to us that this park is about 50/50 long-term/full-time residents vs. RVers on shorther-term rentals. The park has nice paved interior roads and sites were paved also. Park was pretty well maintained. We had a back-in spot, no real room to park our TOAD, but there was parking in designated spots very close to our RV, i.e, within 100'. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We used this park as a base camp for day trips into the southern sections of Redwoods National Park, the coast and Eureka, CA. Plenty to do in this area. Would definitely recommend this park if you're visiting this part of northern California.

Unsecure WiFi that was too intermittent. Only RV site where the cable worked out of 4. Incredibly loud arc lamps for area lighting, some of which were not working. Inconvenient trash disposal: containers were locked during our short overnight stay. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed one night here on our way home to So Cal. The morning we were to leave, our bedroom slide wouldn't go all the way in. The staff went above and beyond to try to get us some mobile help. We couldn't get anyone to come out to our rig, but not for the lack of trying by the staff of the campground or ourselves. I highly recommend staying at this campground when you're in the area. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Motorhome.

Nice park with level paved sites, large grassy area between. Shade trees of all sizes. Well kept up. 2 separate laundry/restroom buildings. Friendly staff. Far enough from the highway to not be loud but close enough to get to conveniently. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Motorhome.

Lots of full-time residents. We barely fit our 42 ft hauler on our 50amp site. All pull thrus were 30 amp. We had several occasions when our power monitor tripped for low voltage. Lots of kids with nothing to do. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The sites are tight, I don't understand why it's deluxe. I guess because it 50 amp. Not really a big right friendly place had to park the truck perpendicular to site. As others said, lots of permanent residences some had garbage around. Sites are gravel, lots of shade from the pine trees. Back in & PTU, full hook up. Pool, pet run, playground, cable, WiFi (slow). We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

It's all about location with this campground. It's close to shopping, the college, the coast, beautiful redwoods, biking and hiking trails. You can hear the hwy noise but it was tolerable. This campground was clean, quiet, and has everything you need to be comfortable. The WiFi was ok, the staff was good, and the residents were nice. We have stayed here many times in the past and it was at least acceptable then. Now it is getting run down with questionable clientel. We stayed for 3 nights in a 30 amp pull thru site that might as well have had a big sign saying "Please walk through our campsite". There were lots of permanent residents with junk around their rigs and cars parked anywhere they wanted (even out in the street). Sure made it difficult for us to maneuver our 38 foot motorhome and toad around the park. There was also no attempt by park staff to enforce the rules. Some of the residents were downright scary. We made sure we put everything away each night and locked all the compartments and car. This is the last time we will ever stay here. There are better RV parks in Eureka and Fortuna! We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Motorhome.

Long pull through sites - plenty of room for our 5th wheel and truck. Nice landscaping and generally clean appearance. Reliable services. Very friendly folks and while close to HWY 101, didn't notice much road noise. Utilities were at the rear of the site, so you might need an extra sewer hose to reach them. Hotel and restaurant literally next door - we didn't try the restaurant. Would probably stay again if in the area. Verizon reception fine; didn't try the free wifi. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Large, nicely landscaped park with friendly staff. Grass and quite a few mature trees. Several sections of the park, each with multiple sites, have tall screening shrubbery. Interior roads are not on a strict grid which makes dog walking (on leash) more pleasant. Third time we've stayed but only one night each time on our way to an end destination. Wednesday night in summer at 5:30 pm and we got the last spot - lesson learned, will call ahead next time. Quiet park, but close and easy access to 101. Across the road from agriculture land, but Arcata a few miles away and Eureka 15 minutes south. Grocery store and other shopping shopping across the freeway, Mexican restaurant adjoining the park. We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Motorhome.
