Old, run down, and in the middle of nowhere. But in a pinch, this park is okay for an overnight. The "mature" owner is behind the times. Cash or check only. Does give a Good Sam & military discount. If you need WiFi, you need to pay $5/day on-line to the local service. He also charges extra for 50 amp. This park is too expensive for what you get. (But then again, it is California!) The best thing about this park is that it is dead silent. I did get a great night's sleep. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

We got in late, about 9:15 PM, with no reservation. I rang the bell, expecting somebody to emerge from their house a bit cranky. Instead, I got a friendly greeting, and was shown to my spot before paying. A nice man guided me expertly into my spot, swinging wide in his golf cart where I needed to swing wide. He made sure I knew where all the hookups were, and insisted I "make the lady comfortable before you come and pay". Seriously? I haven't been treated this well EVER, regardless of price or location. Our 38' coach with Jeep Grand Cherokee in tow fit just fine. The site was raked clean (not dirt, but fine rock). Does it have all the bells and whistles? No, but if you're tired and need to find a safe, comfortable, polite place to stay, this is the ticket. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Small park that was well-kept, nicely laid out, roads were easily navigable. Nice greenery separated our site on both sides, long concrete patio on one side. Utility connections were handy, water pressure was good, Verizon signal was very good. Wifi is managed by an external company and costs extra per day. Office and service staff was helpful. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

The owner is a bit quirky, but very nice and helpful. There is not much in the way of places to stop in this area, and this is likely the better choice to overnight.

That being said, especially considering the price, this place is a bit run down. There are really no amenities to speak of. It is all gravel, well maintained, but spots are kind of hap-hazard and small. The bathrooms were clean, but need a major face lift. Utility hookups work find, but water pressure was not the best. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Not much to do in Barstow.

An out-of-way place short distance off interstate. Gravel with concrete patio. Would be trouble for rigs over 32 esp. if towing. Good for overnight stopping place. Need advance res. because not much else around. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

The staff here went out of there way to do everything right. What they lack in facilities is made up in service. There were two new sewer hook-ups at every site. We stayed here one night in a 60' pull through site. We would return for short stays. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed for 1 night and enjoyed the "old school" customer service approach with a personal guide in a golf cart leading us to the site and telling us to hook up and get comfortable before going to the office for registration. The site was very clean and easy to get into, and there was no noise around the campground in the evening. The showers very clean, but clearly from a time when people were much shorter - anybody taller than 5 feet will have a problem standing upright under the shower head. Good place to stop by for a short stay but probably not a perfect place for a longer stay. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit Calico Ghost Town about 10 miles away from the camp.

Perfectly good place for a few nights. The lady who checked us in (Laci) was very nice and gave us detailed directions on where to get gas and how to get to our next destination. The site was gravel but level so we didn't have to use leveling blocks. Everything worked well and the restrooms were clean. No road noise whatsoever. There are a lot of places to eat and shop on E. Main Street, just 3 exits on the freeway closest to the RV park. Would definitely stay again when passing through Barstow. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

We were welcomed by the helpful and very courteous staff and escorted to our site. Overall condition of the camp hasn't changed much, maybe a little drier than our last stay. Utilities are an easy reach. Chose between 50 or 30 amp. 50 amp costs $3 per night. HDTV works well here but the channel selection is limited. Camp offers a satellite box to connect to their system which requires a direct connection, through a window or vent, free of charge. Restrooms are dated but kept very clean as are the laundry facilities. The camp is dirt and gravel with concrete patios for the pull-through sites. Utilities are conveniently located. The staff is great, very helpful and make one feel right at home. We have stayed here in the past and would do so again when in the area. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Services are nearby in Barstow and diesel at $3.339. Local history found at the Amtrak facility and Historic Route 66. The wind blows here and when it does the dust becomes an unwelcome visitor in your RV.

I will repeat what a previous review from a long time ago says: very cute and kitschy and wonderful owners who give each and everyone a great amount of attention. You are greeted warmly and taken to your site and then you return and pay. You can have satellite and the gentleman will bring the dish and set it up for you if needed (we needed it as the cord was damaged). I would highly recommend staying one night in this RV park just for the experience, and reservations are recommended. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

We arrived late due to traffic and the manager was waiting for us and took us to our space and helped us park. We did not use the TV, but it was offered for free. We had a fuse blow and the manager looked for one but did not have it and then called stores in town and found one. He even offered the use of a camp vehicle so I wouldn't have to disconnect. Laundry facility is first rate. Not the most lovely part of town but would stay at this park again in a heartbeat. Very quiet. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

An old time desert RV park. Typical sand sites and level. Staff very efficient and nice. We stayed in a 36" RV with a jeep in tow. We were able to park in a pull thru with ease. Big rigs should be able to get in with an experienced driver. Shop beforehand as there isn't anything to walk to. Would stay here again. Very quiet! We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

This is a fine place to overnight in a pretty dismal area. The manager was just excellent and very helpful in every way. The hookups were adequate. The parking surface is the local sand, gravel and dirt that when wet is kind of a mess. Everything else is fine. The shade is fairly marginal in an area where there aren't many trees. Let's remember that this is the desert with high winds and blowing sand at times. This is the best RV park we have found in the area so if we happen to be in the area, we would stay here again. This is a quaint little park that is surprisingly comfortable and friendly. There's a $2 up charge for 50 amp service. No cable service, but they'll give you a Dish receiver and a cable to hook to your TV set. They took about an hour trying to get ours to work before giving up, but there is decent antenna reception of a few channels. Bathhouse is small, rustic, and clean. Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. There are a fair number of permanent/seasonal rigs here, but not a problem. Sites are gravel and more or less level. Each has a small concrete patio and picnic table. This is a good spot for an overnight in the Mojave desert. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

Good Sam. Fairly easy access to dirt and rock with concrete pads. Owner is friendly and accommodating. Restrooms are dated but very clean. Laundry has 3 sets of machines and clean plus cheap. Some sites are back-in and big rigs are pull through. CG fills up in the late afternoon so reservations are a must. A good place to break-up a long drive. We spent one night here and would return in the future. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.
