Great place for an overnight stay. Staff is great! Even though we had enough room to stay, we unhooked and went into town, about 5 miles.
Don't follow your GPS. When you call to make your reservation they will tell you how to get there to avoid all the construction. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Travel Trailer.
If you are a fan of Rt 66 nice museum in the area.

This is a great overnight stop. The owners/managers are extremely friendly and very helpful. They did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable including a map to local amenities and an easy way to get on I-40. The park was very quiet, as it's away from the freeway about a mile but a bit dusty....but then it's the desert. We would not hesitate to stay here again for an overnight stop. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Don't be fooled by the long term resident area to the right of the office. Transient sites are up the hill (sharp turn) to the left and are completely away from the semi-permanent portion. Our site was a paved, level pull-through with full hookups. Some shade trees, although we caught full afternoon sun (at 114 degrees) on the refrigerator side of the trailer. Water services had been recently replaced and pavement repairs were not complete, but that did not impede setting up.
We would stay here for an overnight again. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is a gem because of great service and the cleanest restrooms and showers you'll find anywhere.
A first impression upon arrival is that it is an old a tired park. Older yes, tired not. As others have said the greeting upon arrival is unexcelled and you only go back to the office and pay when you are satisfied with your spot and everything is hooked up.
While in an older building, the showers and restrooms are spotless.
Our pad was level gravel with nice shade trees.
A very good choice in Barstow. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Travel Trailer.

This is not the most scenic place, but what is in Barstow. It's perfect for an overnight stay; close to the highway and old part of town's restaurants and services. The staff is the best. They took me for a ride in the golf cart and let me choose a site and then followed to help me park. I had trouble hooking up the cable tv, so he lent me his cable and then programmed my tv to get all the channels. Can't beat that service. Will definitely stop on our return trip. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at Shady Lane passing through both ways. There are not many choices for full hook up in a quiet neighborhood. The neighborhood has seen better times.
The office was very accommodating by escorting us to our site, this is a cash only place. They even give you directions to get back on I40 the easy way. They do get rather cranky if you don't call and let them know if you are running behind on your arrival time. This is an older property, but the bathrooms were clean and they have someone raking the driveways and sites every day. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here for an overnighter while traveling between Merced, Ca and Arizona. It is a decent park for a night or two and close enough to Highway 58 and 40. The two brothers who own and manage the park are kind and very helpful. We have a large rig and they were very accommodating. All of the hookups were convenient. The site was dirt which is typical for the desert and could be very messy of it rained so be prepared. Luckily, we had dry, cool weather in the Spring. We would stay here again. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Travel Trailer.
Get directions from the park as there is construction on Hwy 58 (bypass).

This is a tired CG that's run by the second generation; it's currently for sale and it appears no money has been put into it recently. The staff is quite friendly, particularly the lady who works in the office and the maintenance guy who takes great pride in raking the dirt every day, but one of the owners smokes constantly and everywhere and it's a little foul. CG hosts mostly permanent residents; we were put next to a Cat Lady who also loves to feed birds on her picnic table; she gave us some good laughs as we watched her from our windows. The bathrooms and laundry room were very clean, but very dated. Like the terrain all around here, the CG was all dirt, and a wind storm left our rig absolutely filthy, both inside (it seeped in thru the window drains) and out. The old trees were pretty, though. All this said, this is a satisfactory place for an overnight stay. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

A good place to spend a night, but that's it. We called ahead to be sure they could accommodate a 43' coach, and despite the sign at the entrance claiming a 36' limit we were able to fit into site #1 with the assistance of the very able manager. I think we could have also fit into site 2, but that's it. As it was, our slides hit the bushes between sites.
Sites are all dirt, so I wouldn't go here in the rain, it would be a quagmire. The park is far enough off of I-15 to be quiet. There is no good place to walk dogs. Cable TV worked. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.
Call ahead. The park is small, there are a number of full time residents and there is no overflow area. Big rigs take note: you will have some tree branch issues because the roads are pretty tight. There are no nearby services.

CG is about 1 mile from I-15 on old Hwy58. No traffic noise. Roads and sites are gravel and sand, sites have concrete patios, W/S/E 30/50AMP. 50 AMP costs $4 more per night. Sites are separated by Oleander bushes. Staff is friendly and helpful. CTV is free and Wi-Fi is not. Our Jet Pak pulled a full strength signal and our T-Mobile phones were fine. The CG shows it age but is well maintained. Restrooms and Showers were clean and freshly painted. Laundry 75 cents wash/75 cents dry. Each arrival is escorted to the appointed site and guided into place. Picnic tables and benches but no fire pits. This is a pleasant stop-over and many people do just that, spend the night and leave the following morning. We enjoy the relaxation and will return when through Barstow in the future. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.
Railroad museum in Barstow. Lots of places on old Route 66, The Mother Road, to eat and visit. Peggy Sue's is okay but not great...lots of memorabilia. A drive on the Mother Road in Barstow is a real trip down memory lane.

Nice small park in Barstow, good place to explore from. The place is dated but it is well maintained, clean and friendly.
It is shady, the sites are level with a concrete patio. Staff guides you into your site and you don't have to go and register with the office until you're all hooked up and satisfied.
Laundry room is well maintained and you can do a load (wash & dry) for half the price of other parks.
Does not accept credit or debit. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

This is a nice small park on the north side of Barstow near I-15. Nothing special but it is clean and well managed. The sites are dirt with a small concrete patio pad, full hookups and satellite TV connection. Bathrooms are old but clean and in good condition. There is WiFi available but you must pay $5 per day. They do not accept credit cards, so bring cash or personal check. The gentlemen who manage the park are very nice and helpful. We stopped for a one night stay while on the way to Los Angeles. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

This is an older park in a poor part of town. They do not accept credit cards - cash or check only. WiFi is$5/day extra and they also charge extra for 50 amp. The sites and roads are all dirt and very dusty. The best thing about this park is that it is quiet at night although I did hear the train that they say you can't hear. It did not blow its horn and was quite a ways away. It is okay for an overnight. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Old, run down, and in the middle of nowhere. But in a pinch, this park is okay for an overnight. The "mature" owner is behind the times. Cash or check only. Does give a Good Sam & military discount. If you need WiFi, you need to pay $5/day on-line to the local service. He also charges extra for 50 amp. This park is too expensive for what you get. (But then again, it is California!) The best thing about this park is that it is dead silent. I did get a great night's sleep. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

We got in late, about 9:15 PM, with no reservation. I rang the bell, expecting somebody to emerge from their house a bit cranky. Instead, I got a friendly greeting, and was shown to my spot before paying. A nice man guided me expertly into my spot, swinging wide in his golf cart where I needed to swing wide. He made sure I knew where all the hookups were, and insisted I "make the lady comfortable before you come and pay". Seriously? I haven't been treated this well EVER, regardless of price or location. Our 38' coach with Jeep Grand Cherokee in tow fit just fine. The site was raked clean (not dirt, but fine rock). Does it have all the bells and whistles? No, but if you're tired and need to find a safe, comfortable, polite place to stay, this is the ticket. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.
Services are nearby in Barstow and diesel at $3.339. Local history found at the Amtrak facility and Historic Route 66. The wind blows here and when it does the dust becomes an unwelcome visitor in your RV.SilverBear • December 2014
