Overall Rating:

This park was definitely retro. The check-in desk was located in a old 1952 Airstream trailer. In fact, the whole park was retro including another old trailer the owners had fixed and filled with supplies one would have seen in any trailer in a '50s trailer. The pros: The park is old but clean. The roads and the site were well graveled and level. There was a small cement pad to put chairs on. The staff were welcoming and helpful. It is close to the freeway but far enough way that the road noise level was low. The people in the park were quiet. There was a tree in our site that gave some shade. It felt safe. The cons: The price seemed high to us considering the lack of amenities and the size of the site. The bathrooms, while clean, were circa 1950's as well. The sites were very close. It was noisy in the morning from Roosters and some sort of industrial or mining operation a short ways away. The site had a small picnic table but it was in bad shape. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Small park, tight roads, dusty (but it was very windy!). Very helpful and affable host, guided to site and helped park. Pull through had room for trailer and truck if I unhitched and angled the truck (we are 65' long hooked up). Easy access from I-15, a few miles from I-40. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed one night on our way to Yosemite and again on our way back. The park is older and it's age shows but everything is clean and owners are quite friendly and help you get settled before paying. Roads/parking slips are dirt and gravel and most sites have patios. Park utilities worked well including wifi and cable tv. Off the highway enough to be quiet but easy to access. I had no problems parking my 25' trailer but I can see how big rigs might have some difficulty though there were a couple class A rigs there. Showers could use a couple hooks to hang clothes or towels. It's not fancy but I have no problem recommending this park to others. Park is quite full with long term or permanent guests and was full both nights we were there so reservations are highly recommended. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Travel Trailer.

All of my interactions with the office folks were positive. We were guided to our slot and parked in a good position. This is a small park with only a few slots open to transient/daily parking. We were here for two nights and the park was full each night. I did make reservations a few weeks in advance. There is no grass to speak of, and the trees have been trimmed severely to accommodate larger rigs with slide-outs. There is an extra charge for 50amp, which we needed because of temps in the 90s. This $4/night charge is reflected in the price above. The park is quiet, I didn't hear trains, planes or automobiles. The facilities are in keeping with the age of the park, which opened in 1977. The bathrooms were clean and smelled fresh. Laundry facilities were available, but I didn't check on prices. WiFi was decent, but I didn't try streaming. There is a good layer of gravel in the general driving lanes. It was dry during our visit so I can't speak to the possible muddy issues during rainy season. For our site the supplied table and benches were not used, so I didn't list them as a feature. There was really no place for them, and they were dirty from bird droppings. There is a concrete space, but with our slides out, it was more of a walkway than a patio. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Downtown Barstow (old town and new) were conveniently located about a mile away. Explore the Railroad Museum and Harvey House We did a morning trip to Calico Ghost Town. This is a regional park, but made into tourist destination, lots of tour bus groups. Check out www.calicotown.com for more info.

This is an older RV Park but easy access but no road noise and fantastic staff. Very friendly and helpful. They show you to the site and let you set up before going to the office to pay. We had full hook up and cable and the most excellent wifi. There are some permanents but they were very friendly and tidy. Great for overnight or a day or two. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate based upon Good Sam rate for 50amp pull thru. Very old campground so sites are narrow and short. They had me park half on the patio to make me fit. OK park with nice people but way too small for bigger (mine is 40') rig. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Great place for a nite or 2. Called the night before, & asked for a pull thru, with No trees. Arrived, they met us at the coach & escorted us to our site. Then he wanted to make sure I understood the FHUs and where they were. The park is old, but very clean. WiFi was super good. We will stay here again. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Internal roads are gravel, sites are sand, mostly level and fairly easy to pull into, facilities worked well, and are centrally located. We were escorted to our site. You set up and then pay. Site was satellite friendly. Staff were friendly, park WiFi is free/secured and worked very well. T-Mobile/Tracfone cell service was fair to good 4G. The park was quiet. We would stay here again. This is a nice, clean little park for an overnight stay. Interior roads are a bit tight for big rigs but we managed. Was escorted to our site and got set up before having to register & pay. Hookups worked fine. Wifi was actually pretty fast. A pleasant surprise for campground wifi. Verizon service was 2 bars. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

This park is excellent for its purpose, one or two night stays while traveling to other destinations. The service is awesome. The staff is very friendly. When you arrive they guide you to your spot, make sure you understand where utilities are located, and after you are settled you go in and register. This consideration for travelers is special. It allows everyone to settle in and take care of business. The gravel road is fine. There is a concrete area next to your TT and picnic tables. Trash cans are all over the park. The bathroom/showers was always clean. We stayed both going and coming to Zion and were really grateful for the quiet area and close facilities. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If coming from the south and GPS says take exit 183 (route 247), you will go through downtown (on historic route 66)and take an old metal bridge over the train yard (past the route 66 and train museums) then out old highway 58 a little ways before you reach the campground. If this sounds enjoyable, go for it. Otherwise, stay on I-15 until exit 186, then go west about 1 mile directly to campground.

Despite being 40 years old, this park is well maintained. Interior roads and sites are small gravel and dirt which means the park is somewhat dusty. The owners are friendly and extremely helpful. They greet you when you pull in to the park and lead you directly to your site. Then they help get your rig aligned correctly, making sure you get the electricity hooked up first (to get the AC working right away). Only after you get everything hooked up and the coach or trailer leveled, do you go to the office and actually check in. Park has lots of small to medium sized trees scattered around, so if satellite reception is needed, be sure you ask about that when you make your reservation. Our pull through site (#9) was fine for satellite reception. Probably not the ideal place for a longer stay (it is in the middle of the Mohave desert after all), but perfectly fine for a night or two. A touch on the tight side side for big rigs, but manageable. We'd stay here again. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Historic Route 66 Museum and American West Railway Museum are two of our top things to do in Barstow. We didn't eat out, so have no restaurant recommendations. Major grocery shopping is available about 4-5 miles away. At check-in you'll get a map showing how to get to all the main shopping places, including an outlet mall.

Friendly manager met us when we pulled in and guided us right into our space. After we were all hooked up I went to the office to pay. Wi-fi connected immediately. RV GPS got wonky and brought us the back way on Old Hwy 58. Get easier directions from the staff by phone! He also gave us a map for a shortcut to I-40 for when we leave. It's not a big campground and he said they were full until May without a reservation. We camped at Shady Lane RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Small park with pull through sites. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Wifi and cable both worked. Laundry room was clean and reasonably priced. Our site was sunny but some spots had shade. Good spot for a one night stopover. My only suggestion would be to add a small dog park/run. There is no grass and not much area for a dog to go without being on someone's site.
