PROS: Just so you know, the selling point for this campground is its extremely close proximity to the ocean. Some sites have ocean front views that can't be beat, but these fill up within minutes of being listed on the ReserveAmerica website (and they are also $10 more than the adjacent sites that are not beach front). The sound of the waves crashing at night is amazing and there is a plethora of hiking and sightseeing opportunities both north and south of the campground. The campground itself was quite clean and pretty quiet (even on a summer weekend) and seems to be frequented by the serious camper and nature lover, not the weekend party crowd. The camp hosts were helpful and considerate. Should you have extra vehicles or your tow vehicle not fit in your site, there is overflow parking just a 1/4 mile away at the main parking area for Wright's Beach. CONS: These sites are TINY!!! We have never, and hopefully will never, try to shoehorn into a site this small again. We literally only had 6-12" to spare on all sides as we jockeyed into our site. If we had had a pull trailer vs. a fifth wheel, or anything longer than 24', it would have been impossible. Also, our fifth wheel is quite tall and the overhang from the trees scraped the top of our unit. Nothing serious, but obviously you want to avoid that if possible. It would be awesome if overhead clearance was mentioned on ReserveAmerica. These sites are also extremely close together, especially where we camped which was in a cul-de-sac of 3 sites, all with large trucks. After 1 day of squeezing our truck in and out of our site, we decided to just park it in the overflow lot. So in all, this is a perfect campground for tent campers and small RVs and trailers. Larger RVs can be accommodated in the overflow camping section adjacent to the ranger kiosk, but there is zero privacy or ambiance there. If we come back, that's probably where we'll have to stay! We camped at Wright's Beach in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Stop at ALL of the coastal pull outs, the views from each one are unique and unparalleled! We especially liked Shell Beach and the Kokum trail. Take a drive top to Jenner, through Guerneville, around to Sebastopol, and back to Bodega Bay. Lots to see and do on the way. Worth the visit are the Russian River Vineyards winery outside of Guerneville and the old cemetery in Sebastopol. Most off all, enjoy the drive, it's breathtaking!

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

This small campground is situated on a stunning beachfront spot between Bodega Bay and Jenner, just off Hwy 1. You'd never know it was there unless you read about it or happened to notice the sign (which we drove past, even though we were looking for it). I was able to reserve the last non-ADA spot a couple days ahead, but we were there in late December. I understand this campground is wildly popular and prime times sell out quickly, which is understandable to us now that we've been there.

All of the sites are great, some are just even more great. I read ahead of time that the only "good" spots are 1-10 as they are beachfront, but I now disagree and will say that 11-18 are also wonderful and just steps from the beach. 19-27 are fine, as well, but are in a lot across a small road and a bit farther from the beach. We were in 15 with our 23' class A and fit well. Longer rigs, over 30', will have a tough time here, however.

There were a fair amount of tent campers here when we were, in addition to 5th wheel trailers class B's and C's (we were the only class A, but we're a small class A), although tent campers should be aware of the fact that there are no showers at the site.

During our stay, a sign at the Camp Host's site said they were away Tuesday and Wednesday (and we left Thursday around 1pm and they still weren't there), so no firewood sales nor any service typically rendered by Camp Hosts. Not sure if this occurs every week in the low season or it was just unique to our stay. If we'd known, we would have brought firewood but we were campfire-less while we were there :(

We live in the Bay Area so we understand that the beach weather around NorCal can be finicky, most often worst in summer. Weather and numbers of visitors at the Sonoma Coast area are ideal in the winter, so we highly recommend a winter visit and your ability to get a spot in Wright's Beach is greatly increased, as well. Win-win-win. We camped at Wright's Beach in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Consider the very unique Russian House #1 for dinner while staying at Wright's Beach, as it's a quick 7-min drive north to Jenner. Very good food and eclectic concept: http://www.russian-house1.com/. Oysters, crab, and clam chowder were stellar at the Fisherman's Cove in Bodega Bay, and the Spud Point Crab Co next door is also very popular. There are numbers of great dining options but our frugal yet discerning palates were very happy with Russian House & Fisherman's Cove!

No hook ups, no trailer dump. Wonderful sites, great beach. We were treated to a perfect sunset. Loved going to sleep hearing the sound of the surf. We camped at Wright's Beach in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Sites 1-18 are preferred . Though others are certainly not bad! Drain tanks at dunes campground five miles away. No charge if you are staying at wrights beach. There is water, but no way to fill water tanks as spigots have no threads...smooth nozzle. Arrive with required water and empty sewer tanks!

This campground is all about location. It is literally right on the beach. The sites are on sand, not level, they have a picnic table and fire ring. The bathrooms are fairly new and clean. If you want a shower, you have to go about five miles to the Bodega Dunes campground. Big rigs would have some problems getting into some of the sites. Our rate reflects a senior citizen discount. Site number 8 is the best of the best. We love this place and will continue to return whenever we can get a reservation. We camped at Wright's Beach in a Travel Trailer.

In a large motorhome you have to park in the parking lot, for the same price as the actual spots. It was quiet and we hiked on the beach, undisturbed, with our dogs and again along the shore the next day. Not sure why the state won't let motorhomes park in the main parking lot at night. We live nearby so it was an ok stay for 1 night. We prefer Bodega Dunes but it was sold out. We camped at Wright's Beach in a Motorhome.

One of the few campgrounds in Calif. located on a beach. Surf is dangerous here not safe to go into (my father saw a swimmer drown here during his stay). Tight sites. Dry camping. I know the beach is lovely but not my favorite place to camp. Must have reservations to camp on beach but some overflow spots may be available on any given day. Close to Bodega Bay. We camped at Wright's Beach in a Motorhome.

We love this place. Lots of sand in spaces 1-9. Had to use 4 wheel drive to back up in spot #7 due to sand, low trees in some spots lots of shade. Its hard to get into if you can not back up good in lower spaces. We go here 2 to 3 times a year. Love it, NO tv NO phone [ no cell ] you can get Directv. You need to get reserv. to stay in summer. It gets book full on weekends and summer days. We stayed there 7 nights in Jan.2009 had sun ervry day but 1. We love IT We camped at Wright's Beach in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground is part of Sonoma Coast State Beach. Mixed tents and RV sites. I don't think it is suitable for big rigs - 40 feet +, but saw some there. Two pull-through sites. Fresh water and flush toilets. Showers and RV dump are available at Bodega Dunes campground which is about 6 miles away. Usage is free for campers at Wright's Beach. Beach is pretty, but swimming is not recommended as it is dangerous. Dogs restricted from trails, as is the case at many California state parks. We camped at Wright's Beach in a Travel Trailer.
