You need to know what you're getting with this park. First, LAX is directly behind this park, so every 90 seconds, you will hear the loud roar of a jet engine that will be VERY hard to ignore. I was able to sleep at night but I found it pretty annoying after a few days. It's basically just a parking lot with hookups but it's directly on the beach. The service is awful because the staff is run by the government and they clearly do not care about anything other than collecting money and otherwise doing as little else as possible. There isn't really anything around in the area other than the beach. The beach has fire pits everywhere so that's pretty cool (bring wood!). You'll have to drive to Venice Beach or Manhattan Beach or further to find any decent restaurants or bars. Parking isn't particularly great as you have to parallel park on the side of the road by your rig if it's of any length and it fills up at night. If you're coming for the beach and nothing else, this isn't a bad spot. Bonus points if your hearing doesn't work all that well! - Anthony D
Mar 2018 - $65.00
We have to begin with the airplane noise. Holy cow!!!!! The incessant, round-the-clock take-offs from LAX will rattle the fillings out of your teeth!!!! This alone is a good enough reason to skip this place, which is essentially only a sandy asphalt parking lot with line painted on it. You won't see the ocean from your site because the idiots at LA County have dozed a fifteen foot sand berm between the shore and the campground to assure that. The showers are on the cold side of luke-warm and they emit water in needle-like jets that are painful to your skin. Annoying, bright lights are on all pedestals and illuminate your sleeping are even with blinds closed. Security is an issue and homeless people sleep by the bathroom at the bike trail, which has no barrier to the campground. Noisy, inconsiderate weekend partiers come in and take over the place with no consequences although they have all-night "security" in place. Campers pulling towable clutter the roads with their trucks and make the place look like a car lot. We couldn't wait to get out of this place. Hated it! - xyz-123
Dec 2017 - $55.00
We stayed 21 nights in the back row. We paid $55/night plus a one-time $10 reservation fee. There is no tax. Hook-ups worked well. Did not use the restrooms/showers so can't comment on that. There is wifi but, we were told, you have to be very close (maybe within 3 sites) to the office in order to get it. Verizon cell and Verizon Mifi signals were terrible. Open sky for good satellite signal. This is not our first time in this park so we knew what we were getting into. It's a love/hate situation. We love the location - close to the beach, bike path and family in South Bay. We hate the location - extremely tight sites, extremely loud planes and extremely fragrant sewer plant. This stay we had the added excitement of having a neighbor clip our motorhome along with ensuing drama (he wouldn't give us his name and his rig didn't have a license plate - you get the gist). There aren't many choices if you want to stay in Los Angeles. Buyer beware. - GottaGoNow

This is basically five pull-through spots in front of a permanent mobile home park. But the good news is that it is right off the I-210 freeway so it is a perfect over night stop off if driving between Palm Desert and Northern California. I called ahead and the lady asked me to put $20 cash in the mail slot of her door if I came late. When I left early in the morning, two other rigs had pulled in. You can not even put out slides as the spaces are that tight. I was able to pick up some Wi-Fi from a neighbor and quite a few TV stations came in via antenna because of being so close to Los Angeles. It was a bit noisy and absolutely no ambiance, but for a very reasonable stop-off with electric, we found it very convenient. - WinnebagoTraveler

Apr 2018 - $50.00
We had a wonderful week at Golden Shores. Cost was about $360 for the week (can't remember exactly how much). We were assigned a spot that backs up onto the central grass belt - I advise that you ask for that. The other choices back up to road with no room behind the rig, or to a bike trail and kind of ugly water area. The service from the front desk and grounds keepers was excellent. The pool and spa have just been refurbished and was the best spa my wife has seen. As noted in other reviews, the sites are made of decomposed granite, so it will track into your rig if you don't have some kind of outdoor carpet to put outside your door. Several campers covered their sites with artificial grass or similar material. I assume they were staying for a month or more. We didn't have any rain, but I can see that it would be messy if it got wet. The grounds keepers rake the DG after each guest leaves, so it always looks nice. For cyclists, there is a bike trail just a few feet from the entrance. I did a couple of 50 mile rides, over 40 miles of which was on bike trail. There is also the aquarium, Queen Mary, Catalina, Presidential Libraries (bit of a drive), Space Shuttle and other attractions in the area. Our fifth wheel was 30 feet long. We were able to hang the back of it over the grass area, and park the truck in front of it. If you have a longer rig, you will probably have to park next to it. The park is 'compact' - sites are close together but have a small hedge and concrete 'mow strip' between sites which helps prevent it from feeling that you're on top of your neighbor. We have slides on both sides of our rig and there was plenty of room for them. - Bitbucket
Mar 2018 - $65.00
There are so many things that we loved about this park, we aren't sure where to begin! Let's see...there was the incredibly loud music, the falling-down drunken guests, people walking through our site daily, the muddy sites, the extremely rude office staff, the sparsely-stocked "store", the un-enforced list of rules, the plethora of full-time residents with all of their junk everywhere, the cold heated pool, the homeless population right outside the fences, the sleepless nights due to noise, the light pollution, the loud highway right outside the property, guests using the "no-dog" areas to have their dogs poop and (this bears repeating) the EXTREMELY rude office staff. What a wonderful place! Skip it and the aggravation. - xyz-123
Mar 2018 - $48.00
We have stayed here before, liking the convenience to Long Beach, car rental, and nearby attractions and restaurants. This time we were in site #37, which backs onto the inlet with an interesting view of the San Pedro Port. From previous experience, we anticipated that our site would not be level (compacted sand), so we had to use levelers to keep our front tires in contact. I noticed many motorhomes with their front tires inches off the ground. Our particular site was not well cleaned when we arrived, and it took two days for them to come by and clean it up after our request. Otherwise, staff was friendly and helpful. We would probably stay here again if we wanted the downtown Long Beach experience. - Joe from Victoria

Rate is for monthly stay. Most people are here for work. Mostly monthly tenants. Kept up really well. Office staff are great. VERY tight spaces. Most spaces you will have to get your neighbor to move there cars/trucks to get it. - Spantz
Nov 2013 - $30.00
This is a glorified parking lot next to a mobile home park with 46 marked spots, two of which are occupied by the office and a small mobile home, so there are only 44 sites available for RVs. Due to a recent ownership change, this park is not allowing any RVs older than 2000. The only thing this park has going for it is that it is the only park in the area. If you want to use the mobile home park's pool facilities, it costs $50 (non refundable). The management recently trimmed the trees located around the edge of the park back to bare branches, so there is no more shade in the park. I paid the monthly rate. The dog area is a small strip of grass in the back, and maneuvering a big rig in the park is possible, but difficult. No tents or anything like them (e.g., easy-up) allowed. The only reason I would go back here is because I need to be in the area for a family emergency. - Hunterman

Great, clean park. Management was exceptional. Sites are close together, and there is really no area for pets, but it's a safe, nice park. Usually a waiting list. - rollngstonz

Beautiful park nicely situated near many LA attractions. Sites were well-spaced and clean. The campground was quiet during the evenings. We appreciated the free laundry and ice. We didn't use the bathrooms, but they appeared clean and heard no complaints. There is a nice walking path near the campground. If you carry firearms, tell the gate guard, and they will coordinate with the armory to store your weapon and ammo upon entry. It will need to be stored in a California-approved locked gun box, of which there are many that comply. If not CA-approved, they may not store the weapon. Only 30 minutes from Disneyland, and close numerous beaches, including Sunset, Huntington, and Seal. Would definitely stay here again! - RVerFamily

Very quiet park with green space beside each space. The concrete pad was pretty large and there was a picnic table to enjoy outside activities. The showers were clean. Laundry washer and dryers were free. It was a nice place, close to the Disney Park and felt safe. - LTC & MS

This worked for a few nights in order to visit Universal and Hollywood area. I had read a few other reviews that said the spaces were small, but that was an understatement. We have a small sprinter motorhome (24') and was able to back carefully into an end space. But anyone with a trailer has to unhook, and then they maneuver the trailer into place with a forklift. And cars are parked in front of spaces and along the main alley, so once you are in your space, you're in. Every time someone needs to get in or out, 3 or 4 cars have to be moved. Overall the campground is clean and well kept. The laundry was clean and all the machines worked. Our site was clean and level. The neighborhood was a different story... it's right next to an airport so helicopters fly overhead all day. Panhandlers hang out at the 7-11 down the street. We stayed here because there are no other options for RVs in the area... and that's a shame, because at $65 for this place I would have been happy to pay big bucks for a modern comfortable RV park with normal sized sites. - jimandlisa
Dec 2017 - $54.00
The name of the park has been changed to Hollywood RV Park effective January 1st, 2018. We stayed for two weeks. The weekly rate was $375 plus 14% tax (yes - 14% tax - California is crazy!). Our average all-in cost was $61.07/night. The reservation process was easy; check-in friendly and efficient. We were escorted to our site in the "back lot" which is basically an asphalt area with several 50amp/water hookups (no sewer). We knew in advance we would be there but it was the holiday season and we were glad to get in. Honey wagon service is available for free as needed and the maintenance guy was super nice and always helpful. Because the regular sites are fairly small/tight (most are not big rig size), we were quite happy to be in the back lot with some extra space. Satisfactory Verizon cell, Verizon Mifi and DirecTV signals. We did not try CG wifi so can't comment on that. The office was able to receive shipments which we appreciated. Although the CG backs to Van Nuys airport, it wasn't too noisy during the day and it was quiet at night. The location suited us because it allowed us to spend time with family. It's close to the 405 and 101 and there are lots of conveniences nearby including an In-N-Out Burger 1/2 mile away. The CG is well-managed and clean. Big laundry room with numerous machines and a large folding area. $1.00 wash and 75 cents dry (although you might need to run the dryer twice depending on what you're drying). Security at night is very attentive to vehicles entering the park. We met the owner who is actively involved in day-to-day operations. They have many long term tenants and the park is nearly full at all times. Reserve ahead if you can. If we need to be in the area, we would be happy to stay again. - GottaGoNow
Apr 2017 - $65.00
Balboa RV Park is a medium-sized RV park with tight spacing. However, the office people helped you back-in and they are the best I've ever seen at directing. Once in place, the site felt larger than it was, as there was a lot of landscaping. The surface was asphalt with AstroTurf-like grass surrounding it. We had a picnic table and the full hookups worked fine. We had a dedicated parking spot for our tow car, right across from our site. Also right across from us was the large, clean laundry room and fairly nice restrooms/showers. The entire park was quite clean and (for a tightly spaced park) uncluttered, and not as noisy as I had expected; it was actually fairly quiet, everything considered. Everyone we met was very nice. WiFi was quite good, and I could get a strong Verizon signal. If we need to be in this area again, we would definitely stay there. - RobtL

Jun 2017 - $70.00
We chose this park because of it being close to Disneyland. There is a shuttle that stops next door but Disneyland is an easy walk of about a half mile. We had an extra wide back in spot and were able to have room on one side to have our awning out with a picnic table and room for two vehicles on the other. The hook ups are at the back of the site so I had to use extensions for the water and sewer. Could connect to WiFi the first day but not the rest of the days. We were also able to see the fireworks from our RV. The bathrooms/shower are outdated but clean and could use a remodel. The pool looked nice but we did not use it. - CoastCamper
Jul 2015 - $53.00
Used it to park our tent trailer while we visited Disney. Was okay, but didn't stay there really, just parked and slept.
Had electricity, and bathrooms seemed taken care of. Clean park. - Gimmeanathlon
Jun 2015 - $53.00
When you enter the park you think "looks great and green", that quickly changes into "this is bad". The service is the worst you can imagine. Personal activities are more important than customers, excuse me? They let me wait until they had discussed with a friend whether or not they would join the drinking party that evening. No smiles, no kindness, very bad attitude!
The restrooms and showers are outdated. The campsites have different sizes and it is up to the staff if you get a great spot with grass and a picnic table or if your windows are 2 inch apart of your neighbors.
A park can be made as good looking as you want, when the service you get is not good, it does not matter - Palazzo fan

Another one bites the dust. Web site says closing for renovations February 2, 2014. Arrived last night and employees are all fired as of that date. Property has been sold to Disney for an employee parking lot. Enjoying our last stay at this great park. Nice pool and hot tub. Has a game room; the kids like the vending machines. Only a few RVs still here. Disney nightly Fireworks are awesome, framed by palm trees. - Pumpman2
Oct 2013 - $45.00
First, we would definitely return to this park again, but there were some surprises. First, our campsite was not level, not a big problem by any means, but was surprised we had to pull out the levelers. The biggest disappointment was the Wi-Fi that was non-existent in the RV. If you need to have Wi-Fi inside your RV then this may not be the place for you. In today's world there is absolutely no reason not to have working Wi-Fi, if you advertise it. But the hot tub was great after a day walking in Disney. - shayob
Oct 2013 - $56.00
Great location for Disneyland; about a half mile walk or pick up the $5/day shuttle. Not a great place to just hang out around your campsite. Sites are pretty close together. "Resort" is just a large concrete parking lot with strips of grass between sites. There are two small fenced areas for dogs, not enough room to exercise a large dog. Pretty quiet and safe considering its located at the intersection of two major streets (Ball & Harbor). Nice pool area. - Lizzy P
