Campground is ok with clean places but this place is way overpriced. Showers and restrooms are clean but fairly outdated and you need to undress next to your neighbor when taking a shower not what you expect for this price. No pool or other facilities (except an outdated game room). There is nice trail from these campgrounds going up the mountain which is nice with stunning views. We camped at Carmel by the River RV Park in a Motorhome.

Quiet and clean. Access is narrow paved road. There is foot access to a little river which is pretty nice but fairly steep. There's a game room, a grassy area and a basketball hoop for kids. No playground though. The game room is well aged but in good condition: TV, couch, 2 pool tables, ping pong, air hockey, a stocked game cabinet, card table, and a very out-of-tune piano. Other guests were quite and respectful. Friendly staff. Its a scenic area with many flowers/plants and well kept grounds. Privacy shrubs between sites are nice. But am taking a point off for the hookups. Our full hookups were in the very back corner of our camping space. That was OK for electrical but our city water hose and sewer hose were too short unless we broke down our hard-shell pop-up travel trailer so we could back it in deeper to reach. Depending on which site you get, the retaining wall at the end of campground may prevent some campers from making connections if you have only standard length hoses. Also getting in and out of site may be tricky for those with bigger RV/trailers. Bathrooms were very nice. Free showers but you have to re-press the water button every 10 seconds. No temperature adjustment but was comfortably set. Small grill for bbq at each site. Not fire rings for campfires. Did not use but gas grill and patio set available at common area near office. Not a whole lot to do there but that's probably the point: relax. The evenings were absolutely beautiful. They do offer a cash discount and we're OK that we didn't have full amount on hand at check in. At $73/night during Memorial Day weekend, good luck finding a better bargain in Carmel. We camped at Carmel by the River RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Narrow road getting there. Steep hill once in the park. A little tight turning to back in. No laundry, which isn't good. No playground for kids. No river access. Lovely cute toilet and shower area. Showers not really that good but look cute. I wouldnt stay again. But its a safe place to sleep for a night We camped at Carmel by the River RV Park in a Motorhome.

It was so great to return to our favorite RV park, in our 45' coach. Camped here many times. It is just far enough away from Carmel to be in the sun so weather is perfect. It is quiet, peaceful, and nicely landscaped. Sites are wide with 8' tall hedges between, creating privacy.

Owners are very friendly and go out of their way to make sure your stay meets your expectations. Owner is constantly improving the park. We especially like the stamped concrete patios on the premium sites.

Expensive, but any place around Carmel is expensive. It is well worth it in our opinion. Park is very dog friendly with a wonderful maintained grass field for dogs to play in. Park is so relaxing it is hard to motivate ones self to leave. We camped at Carmel by the River RV Park in a Motorhome.

We were not happy with this place. The owners were rude, the spaces are very tight, there was dog poop everywhere on the green patch of lawn behind us and there is a very narrow bridge and road to get there. We will not be back, mostly because of the rude owners. We camped at Carmel by the River RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Extremely tight road to get to this place, we have 40 foot Class A Motorhome, meeting oncoming traffic is not a good thing. Was maneuverable in the big rig, spots are tight slide outs touch the foliage dividers separating spots. We didn't use anything other than water, power and septic. Friendly staff. Had we been told about the road to get there, we would have found another place elsewhere. Seems that there are many full time residents, as traffic in and out before and after work hours was the most of the traffic. One other rig showed up in our 3 day stay. Dog friendly too! Nothing much to be entertained by at this place. We more than likely would stay again if in the area. Just be sure to reserve a spot ahead of time. Limited restrooms and two showers per sex. We camped at Carmel by the River RV Park in a Motorhome.

Have to go into Carmel! Don't recommend doing it in the motor home at all. If no vehicle, find a cab!

Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 5 nights; overall I'd say it's a good, but not outstanding campground.
Here are the pros:
-about a mile off Carmel Valley Road and close to the towns of Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove; takes about 15 minutes to drive into Carmel.
-about 2-3 miles going east on Carmel Valley Road is the Garland Ranch Regional Park with miles of hiking trails and some bike trails; also Carmel Valley Village with a number of wineries, small shops, etc.
-the rv park itself has level, gravel sites with full hook ups
-the wifi service is very good.
-the site was quiet while we were there. (But see below)
-the staff was friendly
-lots of golf courses, including the world famous Pebble Beach ( and the 17 mile drive, which costs $10.00)
-they have a little store as well as a rec room with pool tables, ping pong, fusball, etc.
The cons:
-as others have noted, the sites are on the tight side; some near the Carmel River are a bit wider. Backing in can be a real challenge; the owner helped guide us in and if he's here, he is very helpful. If not, be prepared for some maneuvering.
-the road in is about a mile long and the last 1/2 mile it becomes single lane. They seem to have the situation in control by having the checkout time 12:00 noon and check in after 1:00 PM. If you try to arrive early in the day, conceivably there could be a problem on the one lane road. I'd recommend arriving well after 1:00 PM to avoid this from occurring.
-there is another RV site entrance just as you come in and it can be confusing; this one is to the right and down the hill. If you go left and up the hill, you're on the wrong road.
-this is Carmel, and this is an expensive area. At $80/night ($85 if you use a credit card) this probably the most expensive place we've ever stayed at.
-while we were here most of the people stayed only one night, so there is a steady flow of people coming and going. Some would get going early in the morning , so mornings can be noisy. We camped at Carmel by the River RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great location for seeing the area around Carmel. As has been said before the road up gets to be a single lane. Drive slow and watch for the trees. At the top there are two RV parks so watch the signs. Park is clean and well kept. Spaces tight. Wide enough but not too deep. Verizon signal very good. Park WiFi excellent. Cable 25 digital stations. Not a large park, so call ahead for availability. Did not use the laundry or bath house. We camped at Carmel by the River RV Park in a Motorhome.

Rate varies, $80Summer,$70Fall,$65Winter,$68Spring --$5 Senior or Active Military -$3 for cash. Nice park, hedges in between spaces. Narrow road but easy access once you reach the Park. Some Big Rig spaces but would be a tough drive on Schulte Rd. Good Park for us old folks but no pool for kids. Good base for Carmel, and Monterey. The staff was very friendly. I thought the access to the sites were a little on the tight side. I have a 21 foot RV and it was tough to get into my back in site. There were bushes that bordered each site which gave you some privacy. There was only 1 women's shower available which I thought was insufficient. The men's shower had 2 available. I would not drive here just to camp, but if I coming to town for other reasons, I would stay here. We camped at Carmel by the River RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed there 2 nights because it was the best we could find in the area and it, like the others, was quite pricey at $75. We reserved in advance for late check in and the manager insisted the next day that she had told me that we had to pay cash even though she had taken a card number. She had not; I wouldn't have forgotten that. It is a beautifully landscaped campground with privacy hedges between the sites, which are close together, and amazingly quiet at night. The restrooms were clean, but I would think that with all the money they spent on landscaping they could afford to put $2.50 latches on the doors to the toilet stalls. There is no privacy in the shower area, where 2 stalls share a common area with a bench and hooks on the opposite wall where they can't be reached from the shower. The only way to avoid dressing in font of strangers is to drape your towel on the curtain rod, dry off in the shower, and wrap up in said towel to retrieve clothing from the common area. Also, you have to press the shower button every few seconds to keep the water running. We camped at Carmel by the River RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very pretty, well kept RV park with tall groomed hedges separating each site. The internet is excellent. However, the July/Aug price of $75 per night is completely unreasonable and while a few 40 ft Class A units and long trailers make it up the long, narrow, steep, curving mountain road, I shudder to think what one would do if you were to meet a motor home coming the other way since it is basically one motor home wide all the way. This is an attractive park once the entry drive is negotiated. Although there is a "lounge" it has no laundry facilities. Showers and restrooms were acceptably clean. The afternoon staff person was stiff and not very helpful. Other staff were more friendly. Since we are not pulling a tow, it was challenging to park near the aquarium and cannery row, and were we to return, I might look for another park.
