You need to know what you're getting with this park. First, LAX is directly behind this park, so every 90 seconds, you will hear the loud roar of a jet engine that will be VERY hard to ignore. I was able to sleep at night but I found it pretty annoying after a few days. It's basically just a parking lot with hookups but it's directly on the beach. The service is awful because the staff is run by the government and they clearly do not care about anything other than collecting money and otherwise doing as little else as possible. There isn't really anything around in the area other than the beach. The beach has fire pits everywhere so that's pretty cool (bring wood!). You'll have to drive to Venice Beach or Manhattan Beach or further to find any decent restaurants or bars. Parking isn't particularly great as you have to parallel park on the side of the road by your rig if it's of any length and it fills up at night. If you're coming for the beach and nothing else, this isn't a bad spot. Bonus points if your hearing doesn't work all that well! - Anthony D
Mar 2018 - $65.00
We have to begin with the airplane noise. Holy cow!!!!! The incessant, round-the-clock take-offs from LAX will rattle the fillings out of your teeth!!!! This alone is a good enough reason to skip this place, which is essentially only a sandy asphalt parking lot with line painted on it. You won't see the ocean from your site because the idiots at LA County have dozed a fifteen foot sand berm between the shore and the campground to assure that. The showers are on the cold side of luke-warm and they emit water in needle-like jets that are painful to your skin. Annoying, bright lights are on all pedestals and illuminate your sleeping are even with blinds closed. Security is an issue and homeless people sleep by the bathroom at the bike trail, which has no barrier to the campground. Noisy, inconsiderate weekend partiers come in and take over the place with no consequences although they have all-night "security" in place. Campers pulling towable clutter the roads with their trucks and make the place look like a car lot. We couldn't wait to get out of this place. Hated it! - xyz-123
Dec 2017 - $55.00
We stayed 21 nights in the back row. We paid $55/night plus a one-time $10 reservation fee. There is no tax. Hook-ups worked well. Did not use the restrooms/showers so can't comment on that. There is wifi but, we were told, you have to be very close (maybe within 3 sites) to the office in order to get it. Verizon cell and Verizon Mifi signals were terrible. Open sky for good satellite signal. This is not our first time in this park so we knew what we were getting into. It's a love/hate situation. We love the location - close to the beach, bike path and family in South Bay. We hate the location - extremely tight sites, extremely loud planes and extremely fragrant sewer plant. This stay we had the added excitement of having a neighbor clip our motorhome along with ensuing drama (he wouldn't give us his name and his rig didn't have a license plate - you get the gist). There aren't many choices if you want to stay in Los Angeles. Buyer beware. - GottaGoNow

Mar 2018 - $65.00
This worked for a few nights in order to visit Universal and Hollywood area. I had read a few other reviews that said the spaces were small, but that was an understatement. We have a small sprinter motorhome (24') and was able to back carefully into an end space. But anyone with a trailer has to unhook, and then they maneuver the trailer into place with a forklift. And cars are parked in front of spaces and along the main alley, so once you are in your space, you're in. Every time someone needs to get in or out, 3 or 4 cars have to be moved. Overall the campground is clean and well kept. The laundry was clean and all the machines worked. Our site was clean and level. The neighborhood was a different story... it's right next to an airport so helicopters fly overhead all day. Panhandlers hang out at the 7-11 down the street. We stayed here because there are no other options for RVs in the area... and that's a shame, because at $65 for this place I would have been happy to pay big bucks for a modern comfortable RV park with normal sized sites. - jimandlisa
Dec 2017 - $54.00
The name of the park has been changed to Hollywood RV Park effective January 1st, 2018. We stayed for two weeks. The weekly rate was $375 plus 14% tax (yes - 14% tax - California is crazy!). Our average all-in cost was $61.07/night. The reservation process was easy; check-in friendly and efficient. We were escorted to our site in the "back lot" which is basically an asphalt area with several 50amp/water hookups (no sewer). We knew in advance we would be there but it was the holiday season and we were glad to get in. Honey wagon service is available for free as needed and the maintenance guy was super nice and always helpful. Because the regular sites are fairly small/tight (most are not big rig size), we were quite happy to be in the back lot with some extra space. Satisfactory Verizon cell, Verizon Mifi and DirecTV signals. We did not try CG wifi so can't comment on that. The office was able to receive shipments which we appreciated. Although the CG backs to Van Nuys airport, it wasn't too noisy during the day and it was quiet at night. The location suited us because it allowed us to spend time with family. It's close to the 405 and 101 and there are lots of conveniences nearby including an In-N-Out Burger 1/2 mile away. The CG is well-managed and clean. Big laundry room with numerous machines and a large folding area. $1.00 wash and 75 cents dry (although you might need to run the dryer twice depending on what you're drying). Security at night is very attentive to vehicles entering the park. We met the owner who is actively involved in day-to-day operations. They have many long term tenants and the park is nearly full at all times. Reserve ahead if you can. If we need to be in the area, we would be happy to stay again. - GottaGoNow
Apr 2017 - $65.00
Balboa RV Park is a medium-sized RV park with tight spacing. However, the office people helped you back-in and they are the best I've ever seen at directing. Once in place, the site felt larger than it was, as there was a lot of landscaping. The surface was asphalt with AstroTurf-like grass surrounding it. We had a picnic table and the full hookups worked fine. We had a dedicated parking spot for our tow car, right across from our site. Also right across from us was the large, clean laundry room and fairly nice restrooms/showers. The entire park was quite clean and (for a tightly spaced park) uncluttered, and not as noisy as I had expected; it was actually fairly quiet, everything considered. Everyone we met was very nice. WiFi was quite good, and I could get a strong Verizon signal. If we need to be in this area again, we would definitely stay there. - RobtL

Lovely city space. Large gravel spots, great clean pool, bathroom could use some updating but was fine. Laundry reasonable priced. Really nice staff. Recreation room with pool table and foosball, library, community kitchen. It is a busy RV park, if you are close to the entrance you will hear car noise, but not obtrusive. - Eliz Plam
Jan 2017 - $65.00
This is a park in transition. Many long-time residents are being moved out to accommodate newer rigs at higher rates. Long term guests must sign a lease and agree to 15 pages of rules. The park is clean; the restrooms, while small, are clean and tidy. The laundry room could use some updating. The clubhouse is spacious but dull and poorly used. The pool was not open while we were there. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They do their best to provide a clean and quiet environment. Most long-term folks here are working people, so the park is largely empty during the daytime. - rfmscat
Dec 2016 - $51.00
The one thing you do NOT have when staying in the LA area is choice. You come here for a safe place to park and hookups for your RV while you're going out to see the sights of LA.
We stayed in the front, and there is a LOT of traffic noise from sun up to midnight. It actually quiets down overnight, but when it's happening, it's loud. And there are a LOT of sirens. And trains.
There are quite a few long term renters who seemed nice and the place was clean and well-kept.
It's "pet friendly," but we were told not to let our dog go anywhere in the RV park. There is a strip of grass out front that pets use (on the high traffic street) or you can walk a couple of blocks to a park in the area.
The laundry was $1.50 a wash (top load) and $1.25 to dry (front load). The sites are gravel and wide enough for your RV and to park a vehicle, and our site was JUST long enough for our 40' RV. No tables or patio. There is a pool, laundry room, clubhouse. We were here a week and never saw anyone use the pool, and it needed to be cleaned.
The Wi-Fi worked but was SLOW, and from the other reviews I'm guessing we got a signal because we were near the clubhouse. - chasmyn

Feb 2014 - $45.00
If you want to go into the city, this park might work. However the sites and roads around them are tight. We stayed in the area for 18' and under. The showers had no hot water, which I found out too late. The grounds were ill-kept, with few or no shade trees for the sites. The walk from our site to the restrooms was full of holes, perhaps made by animals. The place for the RVs was paved, but all else was mud or earth. In all, a disappointment. We would not return. - Atnt Life Grand
Feb 2011 - $35.00
This was our 2nd time out in our RV, so we were not fully prepared. We are grateful to the camp hostess who gave us a number of tips on RV camping and for letting us borrow her clean-water hose. The restrooms were typical of the California State parks. They were clean, but cold. Showers were not hot but warm enough to warm you on a cold day. The campground is lush and green this time of year. My wife and I saw lots of ground squirrels and a few deer in the campground. - TARDISRV
Feb 2011 - $35.00
First, the positives. Lots of wildlife to watch and listen to (singing coyotes, lots of deer, cottontails, ducks in the creek). Sites are huge, with tons of space in between. Lots of hiking trails (but not well maintained, unfortunately). Iron ranger takes credit cards! Friendly camp host. And, of course, the reason we came--the site where M*A*S*H was filmed. Now the cons: This is yet another victim of CA state park budget cuts. Roads, trails, bathhouses not well maintained. High price ($35) just to boon dock. No water for tanks and no dump station. Come prepared. We did feel pretty secure, though, as the park ranger did regular patrols and the camp host let us know that the ranger had both a sidearm and a rifle in case she needed help in rousting squatters (common here apparently) or rowdies (not uncommon on the weekends we heard). - JCLC

Apr 2018 - $80.00
This park is average at best. They get away with high prices and stay busy because of location. Spots are dirt and too close together. First, we checked in at the same time as a large class A. The sent us out the door with instructions that put us nose to nose going to our spots. The gentleman in the class A backed up to allow us to back in our spot. I go to hook up to shore power and one leg of the 50 amp has no voltage. After calling the office, I was assured maintenance would be right over. No one ever showed up, so I just used the 30 amp. Time for laundry, or should I say time to waste on laundry. Only four machines with one of them out of service for the entire park. And $3 a load, 2x what we pay in any other park. We are 2.5 weeks on the road and it's time to wash the RV. I called and asked if it was ok and if they had a preferred vendor. They said no problem, call this vendor. The detailed shows up as scheduled and starts. Then comes the call from high and mighty park manager telling me I didn't have permission and so on. For the most part your typical king of a small kingdom wanting to exercise his perceived power. I informed him that his office had in fact told me to call the vendor to get the requested service. Thru the conversation he continued to state I was in the wrong. He said it may have been ok if I was a long term guest, but not for someone only here for 5 days. Needless to say, we won't be back. It's sad, good location lets the management get away with sub par service and amenities while charging a premium. - Another5ver
Mar 2018 - $125.00
Fabulous location located high on a bluff overlooking the ocean. The view is amazing. Spaces are tight though and on a slope so be prepared with proper leveling equipment. Great store on property. First class units of all styles choosing to stay here probably due to higher than average cost. - JohnBusch
Nov 2017 - $88.00
This is a 5 star park due mostly the the outstanding views. The park itself is nice and clean and the sites are larger than typical for private RV parks. It's tiered so most sites get a nice view of the ocean. I actually preferred the sites on the 2nd level because they were more private and quiet. The ones on level 1 have a lot of foot traffic but were directly on the ocean. Prices are expensive as expected. The location to Malibu, Santa Monica and LA is great. LA traffic sucks so plan your trips accordingly. Dog walks are present but short. That was the only negative, the lack of walking space for the doggos. Most beaches in the area are not dog friendly but there was a nice beach at Point Magu which allows dogs on leash. Wifi was advertised but too slow to use. Cable was good but went out for 2 days while we were there. They got a cable person onsite and got it resolved. Cell reception was great. Verizon 23d/l, ATT 27 d/l unboosted. Didn't check T mobile. 50 amp FHU was solid. Onsite laundry was very clean and had multiple large machines. Bathrooms and showers were also clean. I did not use the showers. I have read some other reviews about this park that specifically mentioned rude staff. We did not experience that. I found them to be pleasant and helpful and dealt with multiple staff members during our 2 week stay. - Jessie1975

Great place to stay, fun lodge, quiet location. Easy to get to, pretty scenery. No TV at sites (lodge working on their cable hookups), our HD antenna couldn't pull anything in and satellite blocked on our side (neighbor said he got a signal on other side). Excellent Verizon phone and data services. Wifi worked in lodge, but not at our site, they are working on that also. Sites will fit 40' long, but don't think much longer. - Duran
Oct 2014 - $20.00
Sites are level, but if you are the last one in, it might be tight maneuvering. It's quiet and doesn't feel like a city but you are close to everything. There is overflow parking for $5 a night- no hook up for that. As mentioned, the entrance is sort of an alley- a very wide driveway behind the parking lot of Old Susana's café. The driveway is called Elks Trail and is easy to miss, but if you do, there is a large dirt parking lot right down the street. Can't beat this place for the price! - Soos
Mar 2014 - $20.00
This is for Elks members only. They have just updated (wide) the RV parking sites. Good level gravel with full hooks on 8 sites. Rate is now $20.00. We could not get the cable to work but that might be a work in progress. Verizon works great. Close to Regan library about 12 miles. - margeandbob

Apr 2018 - $50.00
We had a wonderful week at Golden Shores. Cost was about $360 for the week (can't remember exactly how much). We were assigned a spot that backs up onto the central grass belt - I advise that you ask for that. The other choices back up to road with no room behind the rig, or to a bike trail and kind of ugly water area. The service from the front desk and grounds keepers was excellent. The pool and spa have just been refurbished and was the best spa my wife has seen. As noted in other reviews, the sites are made of decomposed granite, so it will track into your rig if you don't have some kind of outdoor carpet to put outside your door. Several campers covered their sites with artificial grass or similar material. I assume they were staying for a month or more. We didn't have any rain, but I can see that it would be messy if it got wet. The grounds keepers rake the DG after each guest leaves, so it always looks nice. For cyclists, there is a bike trail just a few feet from the entrance. I did a couple of 50 mile rides, over 40 miles of which was on bike trail. There is also the aquarium, Queen Mary, Catalina, Presidential Libraries (bit of a drive), Space Shuttle and other attractions in the area. Our fifth wheel was 30 feet long. We were able to hang the back of it over the grass area, and park the truck in front of it. If you have a longer rig, you will probably have to park next to it. The park is 'compact' - sites are close together but have a small hedge and concrete 'mow strip' between sites which helps prevent it from feeling that you're on top of your neighbor. We have slides on both sides of our rig and there was plenty of room for them. - Bitbucket
Mar 2018 - $65.00
There are so many things that we loved about this park, we aren't sure where to begin! Let's see...there was the incredibly loud music, the falling-down drunken guests, people walking through our site daily, the muddy sites, the extremely rude office staff, the sparsely-stocked "store", the un-enforced list of rules, the plethora of full-time residents with all of their junk everywhere, the cold heated pool, the homeless population right outside the fences, the sleepless nights due to noise, the light pollution, the loud highway right outside the property, guests using the "no-dog" areas to have their dogs poop and (this bears repeating) the EXTREMELY rude office staff. What a wonderful place! Skip it and the aggravation. - xyz-123
Mar 2018 - $48.00
We have stayed here before, liking the convenience to Long Beach, car rental, and nearby attractions and restaurants. This time we were in site #37, which backs onto the inlet with an interesting view of the San Pedro Port. From previous experience, we anticipated that our site would not be level (compacted sand), so we had to use levelers to keep our front tires in contact. I noticed many motorhomes with their front tires inches off the ground. Our particular site was not well cleaned when we arrived, and it took two days for them to come by and clean it up after our request. Otherwise, staff was friendly and helpful. We would probably stay here again if we wanted the downtown Long Beach experience. - Joe from Victoria

Stayed here to visit our dealer in Moorpark for some minor warranty work. Great little park. Shared the campground with just a few other RVs, though the reservation board looks to be pretty full on weekends. Quiet, peaceful, croaking frogs, song birds, in short beautiful. Big spots with almost level concrete pads. Great power, high water pressure (use your regulator) and tables and a fire pit at every site. Hosts are friendly and actively cleaning up the park every day. Only downside, the AT&T signal is sketchy...here one minute, gone the next. On the upside, just a few minutes from shopping, dining, etc. but feels miles away. - DanJenNevada
Mar 2018 - $34.00
Access to the park was easy off of I-118 strait up Tapo Canyon Road. Perimeter roads are paved and plenty wide. Check in was self registration. Pick a site (make sure it has not been reserved) and fill in the blanks. Services were to the left center and convenient except the sewer connection was very high. We had a metal table and a fire ring that were well placed. Our camp hosts were very nice. "Mrs. Ranger" was great. Site spacing was good. This is a very quiet location. Hard to believe that it is so close to the hustle & bustle of LA. There are no services withing walking distance. All services are available in Simi Valley about ten minutes away. There is no Wifi and very limited cell service. No Cable or OTA TV. Satellite would not be a problem in most sites. This is a great location for visiting the greater LA area. We feel we received good value for our dollar and would return. - Rollin Ollens
Apr 2017 - $35.00
We used this park as a base for visiting places in LA. For that purpose, it worked well. I wouldn't choose it as a destination. Sites were close and dusty, it was noisy on weekends, loud music, many children. My Verizon phone didn't work. Still, we'd likely go back if we wanted to visit LA again. - ghopgd
