Large KOA with lots for kids to do. The new pool was open and it is very nice. The park itself is an older KOA, with large trees and roads that come in at odd angles (it made for some tight turns). This would not be bad except there are a LOT of kids on bikes and low 3 wheelers that are hard to see. It is dangerous and the park does not enforce there 7 MPH in fact the worst offenders where the park employees. Someone is going to get seriously hurt the KOA needs to get a handle on the speeding by adding speed bumps and/or enforcing the speed limit. This is a great park for kids just wish it was safer. Like other reviews the ants are a major problem also the park has a slight sewer smell. Our site got satellite but because of the large trees we where lucky. Our grandkids had a great time and because of that we will return. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Motorhome.

When we first pulled in my initial thought was, what a zoo... kids everywhere... tons of campers. But once getting acclimated it was great for the kids. Lots for them to do on site. Their new large pool area was done but not open yet that is going to be very nice. Negatives: our site had an ant problem. I sprayed daily and some still managed to find a way in the day we were leaving (stayed for a week) The second to last night a skunk literally walked right under me while I was sitting outside lounging in my chair... scared me and could have went really bad. Getting around the campground in the vehicle was complicated by other guests not the campground. Kids on bikes everywhere People setting their corn hole up in the road. Many streets were not wide enough for two rigs to pass each other so if someone was heading the wrong way down a one way.. well it was entertaining to watch but it was all alright. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed at this park 10 years ago. It's a very nice park . The cafe has reasonable prices. The dog park is secure and has things for the dogs to do. Much improved from 10 years and we thought it was nice then. Construction of a new pool is a little noisy week days but quiet at night. We will stay again. Overall Rating:

This is a large KOA. Spacing is typical for a KOA but not too crowded. There is a lot of activities for kids and 2 dog parks onsite. There's plenty of space for walking around the campground as well. They have a cafe that serves food, bike rentals, multiple playgrounds, a pool etc. Being in the off season, it was full of kids on the weekends and then fairly quiet on the week days. The staff is friendly, the grounds are very clean and the bathrooms are nice. I didn't use the shower or laundry. They also have onsite propane. The location is great (only 10 min to San Diego) but yet it was an easy on/off the freeway. The local area it's in (Chula Vista) was not that nice but didn't feel dangerous, just run down. Price was high but not unexpected for the area. If I were going to stay in San Diego again, I'd stay here for sure. I didn't try to use their wifi but hotspots were good. ATT was 10mb d/l and Verizon was 49mb d/l without a booster. Cable channels were good and 50 amp FHU was strong. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Motorhome.

We stayed in our 41' 5th wheel w/5 slide outs. The Premium pull though site was a bit tight and spaces are small. A well kept, older campground and lots of amenities for the kids. For two seniors: just not ideal for us. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We travel to San Diego at least once each year in our RV to visit our daughter who, as a victim of domestic violence, is permanently hospitalized in Coronado. As a result we have stayed in this KOA several times. It is conveniently located for our needs and has a kid friendly infrastructure our two youngest grandchildren love. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Motorhome.

This is a great campground. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were there for a week during spring break, so there were a lot of families, but the bathrooms were spotless and the campground was well maintained. The campground was busy during the day because of spring break, but the staff kept the music and noise down once quiet time began. The location is very convenient to all the attractions in San Diego. The campground is very secure. Gates keeping out non-campers close at 8 pm, but security codes provided to all campers allow easy access into the campground if you return after that time. Our site had adequate space for our large travel trailer, but fitting in our truck was a little tricky. Each site has some grass and the usual picnic table. Trees area abundant throughout the grounds. We will camp there again. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This is a great park. The management is super friendly and helpful, sites are well laid out, grassy areas, playground for the kids, rental bikes, and lots of amenities. This is the second time we've been here. Currently we've been here 3 months (Jan - Mar). We've found the RVers are universally friendly (short term and longer term folks). The on-site restaurant is pleasant if you don't feel like cooking. They also have some really nice log cabins for rent. Our daughter came to visit for a few days staying in one of the cabins. As a result she is planning on returning with her family for short vacations. Only 2 negatives. 1. The internet service is extremely unreliable. TengoInternet is the service provider, and they are a low budget, marginal service provider (not unique to this park). On average, the service goes out at least twice a week over the 3 months we've been here. Outage ranges from hours to as long as 3-5 days. Calling TengoInternet only confirms there lousy service and support. In talking with the park management, they echo the frustrations that we as end users experience. Reflects badly on the park, which is most unfortunate, as it is a great place to drop anchor. 2. The park has a very limited number of 50 amp sites. Not really a big problem during the winter months as air conditioning is not in use. It would be a different ball game during the middle of the summer. Obviously if you have a 30 amp rig - no problem. However with many 50 amp rigs on the road, this is problematic. Even with careful energy management, we've tripped the pedestal breaker during the winter a couple of times. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

The Nightly rate is for a monthly stay. We stayed in a 43ft. Fifth Wheel with an F350 dually truck. I would rate this park as a "10" except for the Wifi. Beautiful park landscaped with very tall trees - pine trees, euclyptus and others. Beautiful roses and flowers all over the park. Nice cafe and store. Lovely patio area with shade, outdoor TV, fire rings next to the cafe. Concrete lanes and site pads. Long enough for our 43 ft. 5th wheel. Nice and wide with hedges to create privacy. Great park for kids and grand kids. Only downfall of this park is absolutely abysmal WIFI with Tengo Internet. Cable TV was very nice. Being winter, our satellite worked great too.Excellent full hookups. Park is owned by the Bell Family who take fantastic care of the park and the visitors. WIFI was down on average 2 days every week in our 3 month stay. Luckily there are many Starbucks and other free wifi places all around. We highly recommend this park and cannot wait to return. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Lunch or dinner in Little Italy at Davanti Enotica with beautiful patio dining in the back. Very creative menu and excellent service. Take the 5 mile Historic Seven Bridges hike starting and ending in Balboa Park to get a good feel for the city of San Diego. Great breakfasts, especially the pancakes, at the Pancake House on Broadway down close to J Street.

Overall Rating:

The front area is under construction, and enjoyment of this park is directly related to where you're parked within it. For the first part of our stay we were by the bounce pillow, which was great: our son loved bouncing. We were close to the dog park, it was quiet and peaceful and enjoyable (except the part where we got super sick, but that's not about the KOA). Even with the huge storm that went through it was a great park.

But when we had to move to a site closer to the construction, it was awful. Construction noise all day long starting WAY to early in the morning, cigarette smoke, and more noise. It just got to be really grating and we were glad to leave when we finally did. So my advice is if you stay here, ask for a site as far away from construction as possible to have an enjoyable stay.

Sites were apart enough to fit, nice strip of grass and some shrubbery in between. Just try and stay out of range of the Eucaluptus trees if a storm is coming through, because the roots are shallow and one DID fall over in the storm! Luckily they had all that constuction equipment around, which quickly got diverted to cleanup the next day and all was taken care of.

Staff was really friendly, we loved the bounce pillow (one of our favorite things about KOAs), but would not camp near the construction again. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you love sushi or poke bowls and want the best sushi at a price you cannot believe, there is the BEST little store/deli that is owned by a local couple is Kyoto Gift and Food. You have no idea what a goldmine you've stumbled into until you've found this place. Cheap sushi prepared lovingly by the owners, or poke, or whatever you desire. And it's only 5 minutes from the KOA - it's unreal.

This is a great location to visit San Diego close to the downtown area, the zoo and Sea World just a little further. The park is filled with things for kids to do great swimming pool with a bigger one being built, rock climbing, bikes for rent and a nice play ground. The sites are average size with the hook-ups all located for easy use. The interior roads are asphalt but narrow with lots of trees we backed out of our pull thru because the normal way out was just to tight. Because of the trees getting satellite was difficult (we had to switch sites). We generally do not like KOA's but we had our grandkids with us and they had a blast, we would return with them. The service was outstanding. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Motorhome.

Rate reflects highest rate charged during our week stay with KOA discount. We were also charged two other rates. I really have an issue with rate increases on weekends. First impressions: this park has way too many cabins of every configuration for rent. This really swells the population on the weekends and makes a tight park even tighter. Since they rent all kinds of crazy bikes, there were oodles of kids zipping around the park, cutting through empty sites and dodging people walking around. After it emptied out on Sunday, the park was much more pleasant. Our site (1516) is considered a preferred plus site and was long enough for 35' coach & tow car. However site was not very wide & was somewhat cramped with picnic table. No privacy hedge between sites but small patch of grass. Very close to neighbor. These sites are at the back of the park with an interior road behind & then a fenced in rv storage area. Was glad to be back there out of the busy fray of the main area of the park. Very tight interior roads; took some maneuvering to exit since many sites have parking for vehicles in the road. Very fastidious landscaping crew; always attending to the greenery. Shower stalls show wear & tear but were clean, tiled and adequate. Have to leave shower & go into restroom to blow dry hair. Pool was dirty with leaves and threadbare loungers. Mixed feelings on whether we'd return, but maybe after construction is complete we would try again. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Motorhome.

For a family weekend, this park has everything and they are adding more if that were even possible. The staff is great and the location is convenient. That is the good. As with most southern California campgrounds, they are expensive and packed, especially over the weekends. The WiFi worked better in some sections of the campground than others due to hotspot locations, the local TV was better than the cable. The color coded stripes on the road is a great idea in the daylight but can be hard to distinguish if you arrive after dark. Likewise the site numbers are painted on the street in most cases and can't be seen in the dark, especially if the street is wet. Cars are often parked over the numbers. Some back-in sites can be challenging. Some of the trees drip sticky sap on the cars and make a mess of the windows until cleaned off. Sprinklers run overnight.
