This is an older park that has been well maintained and reflects the history of the gold rush era. It has varies levels and sites tho all are gravel. The main road is paved and the staff leads you and guides you into your site. There is a fenced in dog run with sawdust at the front of the park. Otherwise there isn't any walking or exercising paths or trails.

The historic town of Colimbia is 1/2 mile away but windy steep road does not encourage you to walk into town.

Laundry is only $1 a load and the Friday night hotdog feed was fun. It is very quiet and most sites have some shade during the day.

I would recommend this park over all the others in this area. Definately the nicest in the area. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

I come to this area because this county does not allow fireworks of any kind. Thus it is peaceful, quiet, and safe for animals.

Very nice park, our third time here. We stayed three nights, using this as a base to explore south to Jamestown and north to Amador City. Such a cute, rustic, atmospheric park, takes you back in time to the gold rush days. That said, they manage to keep it rustic and charming without it also being tacky and rundown. Sites are gravel; green around them is just mowed weeds, would almost be better to have more gravel and no green surfaces at all. The weeds have a lot of foxtails in them, which were an issue for our dogs. (Foxtails get stuck between toes, and if not found, work their way inside the dog, under the skin. Big hazard.) LOTS of trees, nice and shady; up a long road so you are pretty isolated; feels like real camping! Staff is very helpful and friendly; we were in a site on the hill, but had help getting in and getting out. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

Close by to historic Columbia; short drive to Sonora and Jamestown. A bit longer drive to Murhphys, Sutter Creek, Jackson, etc. Wine tasting in Murphys if you're into that.

I was put in charge to choose an RV park for our recent trip to the Gold Country (Northern California). There were not many choices in the area where we were staying and by chance, I happened upon the 49er RV Ranch. I reserved our sites several months in advance. We were a party of 2 travel trailers (27 and 24 ft. respectively) and 4 adults. My first impression of the park was that the spaces are small, tight and in need of a little sprucing up. We were placed in an area called the "penthouse" since it is elevated above the main site circle near the office. The penthouse is two sites on a small pad and due to our sizes, we had to have the park back in one of our trailers with their hitch tractor. Our doors literally faced each other....good thing that we were with our friends! We walked the entire park and I could see that this place was probably pretty darn special in its heyday. The gold panning area, the water wheel, the cool barn that hosts complimentary bbqs for the campers on Friday nights, the hospitality house with free coffee in the morning and the beautiful trees all make a pretty neat setting. The bathroom, the laundry room, and the small sites could all use a major makeover. RVs are bigger now than when this park came to be and I don't know how you could make the sites deeper and wider without some major renovations. The staff and the owner were all very kind and eager to please. The highlight of our stay would have to be the BBQ on Friday night with complimentary polish or hot dogs, beans, chips and beverages. That was a nice touch and it allowed campers to chat with others in a history-filled setting. Would I stay at the 49er RV Ranch again? Probably not. We were pretty cramped in our site and have become accustomed to more space and more privacy between sites. If we were younger with kids, a small trailer or tent trailer, and really wanted to explore the Gold Rush era of this area, I would definitely come to the 49er RV Ranch. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The location of this campground is excellent if you wish to explore east of Sacramento in the foothills. There are lots of cute towns within minutes of here. Columbia State Park is about a mile from the campground. If you have never been here and love California history, it's a must! There are lots of things to do for kids and adults. The ice cream parlor in town is charming and the ice cream was delicious on a hot spring day in the foothills.

We were visiting historic Columbia, CA which is only .5 miles from this park. The staff were excellent. Each guest gets guided into their spot by two staff members, which is very helpful because the park is on a hill and some of the stalls are tricky to pull into.

Friday nights includes free BBQ hot dogs, beans, chips and a drink and s'mores around the campfire.

Our fee was based on our RPI membership. They also had a two nights for the price of one special which we purchased.

A small fenced dog area is available in the front of the park.

Prospectors can buy supplies and practice panning on-site. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Historic Columbia State Park is a half-mile down the road with plenty of free parking. Sonora and Jamestown are about 10 minutes away. Jamestown has a train museum - some of which was used in Back To The Future III.

We stopped here for a couple of nights to see the historic Columbia Village and explore Sonora. It was a good choice among the available parks as the sites were fine with good water/electric/cable and wifi and the folks were friendly. The bathrooms were clean but really minimal and in need of an upgrade. Sites were back in...took a little work to find the most level spot in the gravel and are pretty close together.
Good value for this section of the country and the nearby towns are well worth the visit. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

We agree with previous posts, the staff is great at this RV park. The sites can be tough to get into, and they direct you into your site. The hookups are well located. The road into the park is narrow but it is no real problem. On Friday night they had free hot dogs, also coffee every morning. The park itself is probably a 7 but with the extra service we raised it to an 8. Nice quiet park, we will return. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

Had a flat, level, gravel, back-in site. Staff made it easy to park. Sites have two sewer hookups so you could choose the most convenient option. Wi-Fi worked well. Nice picnic table in site. Free coffee each morning and free chili fogs on Friday night. Nice campfire program. Staff constantly asked if they could do anything to make our stay nicer. Use driving direction on web site. GPS not aware of closed streets due to Columbia State Park. Very nice park. Only down side was no good spots to take dog on walk due to narrow, windy road. Would definitely stay again. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Fifth Wheel.

Great hospitality by staff and good location for many sites to do and see around area (Columbia, Jamestown, Murphy's, Big Trees, etc.). Some of campground is on hillside so getting into tight spots can be tricky but staff is great in helping you into your spot. Showers/bathrooms could use upgrading (hot water takes awhile to work (esp. in men's). Have free grilled hot dogs on Friday night, nightly campfire get togethers with a singer, & free gold panning lessons. Would stay here again. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

We enjoyed our stay here very much. We had a choice spot, but we spent most of our time with family. The location was rough, I was raised in this area so we didn't have trouble finding it, but I can tell those who are not to follow directions carefully. Driving around these hills with a trailer not knowing where to go can stress some people - so just plan ahead. The management was terrific, very friendly. We needed help to park our trailer as the campground was full and a SUPER TRAILER PARKING GURU was there to help! They offer a lot for campers with children (game room/barn) lots of room to roam. They also had campfire and a guitar/singer one night. Highly recommend this campground. Columbia has a lot to offer, something for everyone to see. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

I have been RVing full time since August, 2011 and this has been one of my favorite stays. I stayed here three months and and found the place to be great for long term and short term RVers. The installed FIOS super fast internet, a must for full timers. The property has a lot of character with a rustic feel. They host camp fires with period entertainment. Full hook ups with strong 50 amp service. I found the staff to be very helpful in solving my issues. The location is walking distance to the historic gold rush town of Columbia and is an easy drive to Yosemite National Park. I will definitely be a repeat guest. Rate was based on monthly stay plus electricity. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

Once we located the park had a great time. Follow the directions on the web site very carefully. We had a hard time finding the park, but the manager actually came out to find us. Several roads to take in make it confusing. All other aspects of our stay were 10+. Great management and staff always trying to help, including parking our 5th wheel. Tell management ahead of time if you plan to use a Sat. Dish as there are limited sites with clearance. Ours worked great. I would definitely get a reservations in the spring and summer since there are limited short term sites. This is definitely the best park in the area. We really enjoyed the park and there are tons of things to to do in the area. Will be back next winter/spring. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Fifth Wheel.

This was a very nice campground run by very nice people. Although there weren't very many camp sites for travelers, most of the permanents were up in another place, so they weren't an issue. It is a great campground for visiting Columbia and Jamestown. The bathrooms/showers were adequate, but needing an upgrade. We paid using our PPA membership...their standard rate of $49 is way too much. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

This campground has a few sites for short-term camping, but most of the sites are used by permanent residents. This was a distraction from the "camping" experience we enjoy. The staff was friendly and helpful. The campground was clean. The restroom and laundry room are a bit shabby. The restroom and shower area are not heated. Most of the campsites do not afford any privacy. We will likely stay elsewhere the next time we visit this area. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

What a nice place to visit! The staff/owner were by far the friendliest that we have ever encountered. The area offers many places to see, the town of Murphys is just a short hop down the road, along with the quaint town of Columbia. We will definitely return to this adorable, friendly, clean rv park. A little too tight for big rigs. Only a few sites can really accommodate the 45 footers. Some of these sites are not level. The bathrooms are ancient but functional. The staff is terrific but the campground is a bit tired. Great place for smaller rigs. Close to the main Columbia area. If you have a big rig you may want to consider camping at the Sonora Fairgrounds. We will not camp here again only because it was a bit too tight. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Motorhome.
