Gravel parking lot, no hook-ups. Sites fairly close to each other. Level. Only one bathroom (unisex) with no showers. Good slop sink for dishwashing. We were able to use the pool and showers at the Furnace Creek Ranch so that was a plus. Long walk or short drive there. Our site (28) backed up to the Visitor Center so we were able to use their bathrooms. Free dump station nearby. West side of campground offers afternoon shade but east side best for satellite reception. Any campground in Furnace Creek is a good location for all the best hikes and scenic drives. Slow Verizon 3G/1X but good satellite reception. We camped at Fiddler's Campground at Furnace Creek Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to drive Artist's Drive, 29 mule drive, Dante's View, Zabriskie Point. We loved the very strenuous hike up Wildrose peak. Don't miss hiking Golden Canyon/Red Cathedral/Gower Gulch loop.

This is an updated review from my first 3 years ago. This time I have to be more critical, mostly because the upgrades to the Furnace Creek NPS campground next door make it a better choice in almost all respects. Fiddlers is basically a gravel parking lot, not much different from Stovepipe Wells or Sunset across the road. Sites are very close together and there is no camp host to enforce generator quiet hours. For less money, the Furnace Creek Campground has much larger spaces, better views, paved pads, picnic tables, water and flush toilets. There are some full hook up sites for more $$. The big benefit to Fiddlers is the free use of the pool and showers at the resort, which is a ten-minute walk. For $5 per day per family, campers at the NPS campground can use the pool too. This is still a great location to see many of the sights of Death Valley, it is just not the best camping option IMO. We camped at Fiddler's Campground at Furnace Creek Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Be aware that currently the only sites that can be reserved on the on-line system are "40-foot" sites, which are all in full sun. If you want the chance to get a shady site (numbers 1-16), you need to call and reserve a "50-foot" site. All the sites seem to actually be the same size, however.

Fiddler's Campground is located directly behind the Furnace Creek gas station. Check-in is at the Furnace Creek Ranch arch. Gravel sites with no services, but the NPS Campground was across the road with flush toilets. We came for the Golf tournament in Jan. How fun. Free RV dump station and fresh water is right across the road from the gas station. We had free access to the pool and shower. We practiced pickleball on the tennis court...Wish they would paint lines for pickleball. WiFi worked fine with the BearExtender. Good Verizon signal. We camped at Fiddler's Campground at Furnace Creek Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Just a gravel parking lot, with a great view of the Death Valley mountains. Probably a mud nightmare after a rain (infrequent in Death Valley). Quiet, no water, sewer, or electric. Trash and recycling dumpsters available. A few nice picnic tables, large central fire rings (no rings at individual sites). Very long sites. Good 3G Verizon service. Some sites shaded from the winter sun. Front desk at the resort was efficient and polite. We originally had reservations at the Furnace Creek RV resort full-hookup park, but were notified in September that Xanterra was closing it permanently due to electrical problems, so we switched to Fiddler's. We were given key cards to use the resort pool (huge, heated, very nice) and bathroom showers, about 1/2 mile away. There were only two showers in the men's bathroom, one of which had a broken showerhead, which was not repaired all week. The dump station was OK, but the fresh water fill was broken (leaking pipe), so we filled up at the gas station at the campground entrance. The rest of the resort showed generally poor maintenance, so don't expect any of this to be repaired anytime soon. Fiddler's is right across the street from the great NPS visitor's center, and next to the NPS campground. We camped at Fiddler's Campground at Furnace Creek Resort in a Motorhome.

RV park is part of a big resort - guests benefit from the infrastructure like swimming pool, restaurant, bar. Unfortunately, restrooms are quite far away and showers are integrated in the swimming pool area. Creates a certain dependency to the opening hours. All in all a very nice area with very friendly staff. Good rates! We camped at Fiddler's Campground at Furnace Creek Resort in a Motorhome.

Stayed here two nights. We weren't able to make reservations anywhere else, being it is spring break time. It is a decent camping site, though if you can, make reservations for one of the 50 ft sites, as mentioned all but two of the longer sites have shade behind them. We were not so lucky, the sites to the NNE are full on in the sun all day long. And being Death Valley, even in the middle of spring, it was 90+°. So make sure to book/ask for a longer site in the shade.

Overall, it is a nice campground. It was clean, some dust from the gravel surface, still not bad considering it's a desert. The sites are kind of close together, but the campground was not full, so there was space between neighbors. There are three community fire pits in the campground. No picnic tables. Water available at service station and dump station. Very close to NP visitors center, quick drive to pool. Furnace Creek Ranch/ Resort access included with campground fee, which is a nice bonus. Would stay here again if I had shaded site. We camped at Fiddler's Campground at Furnace Creek Resort in a Motorhome.

Having read all the other reviews for Furnace Creek Ranch, it appears that no one has reviewed the "no hookup" area which seems to be pretty new. It is located behind the gas station, between the golf course and the park visitors center. It is a large parking lot (where else does one ever camp in Death Valley?) in a rough triangle shape with campsites marked off all along the perimeter with the large center area clear except for a fire pit. I agree with the other reviewers that the other RV area is the pits--crowded and messy, but we loved the new dry camping area a lot. The price was great, the sites were a breeze to back into and very long, the internet was fast and reliable (better than 90% of RV parks we've visited; amazing for Death Valley!), there is shade (also absent everywhere else in DV that I have seen) if you get one of the sites along the West line of trees, you have use of the pool, showers, shuffleboard, etc. if you want. All-in-all it is a great bargain if you can do without hookups. It was never full the four days we camped here. We camped at Fiddler's Campground at Furnace Creek Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
