There are 2 campgrounds at Furnace Creek. One for the NPS and another run privately rightly called Fiddlers something. Internet reviews are mixed up between these two. This review is for the NPS campground. We stayed here at the end of June. Many things are closed in the summer, which is their low season. We pulled in about 3 pm. One other camper. No ranger, never saw one. Paid with a credit card at the kiosk. $25 senior price for hookup. Helped ourselves to the host site in the shade. It was very hot. The cold water was 105 degrees and never got cold. We both took warm showers in our fifth wheel using just "cold" water. Yes, there are electric/water hookups. 18 of them in the full sun. The other 114 have NO hookups. We used campsite #7, which was available since it was the low season. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Easy-in / easy-out on paved roads through a long, wide paved pull-through site made this a very convenient place to camp. Electricity, water, and sewer were conveniently placed. There was no WiFi, but Verizon cell service connected to an "extended network" to give some Internet access. We didn't use the bathrooms or laundry. All of Death Valley's attractions surround the campground, but in the largest National Park in the Continental USA, it still required lots of driving to see them. For us, the electricity was essential as in the 100+ degree temps, A/C was required, and we thought that the low price for full hookups made this a great value. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

This is a National Park campground. There are no hooks up for water, electricity, etc. There is a picnic table and fire ring. The bathroom was near by and while it got dirty due to high use, it was cleaned every day. The visitor center is a five minute walk away. Past that is a small general store, a post office and gift shop. The Furnace Creek Inn has showers for $5 per person per day. There is so much to do at Death Valley, this is a great location to see it all from. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

This was our first time in Death Valley National Park. We can't wait to visit again. We enjoyed this NPS campground. Trees and mountains make it scenic. Furnace Creek is the populated part of the park and a good place to make your home base. The other RV options (Sunset-NPS, Texas Springs-NPS, Fiddler's-private) for Furnace Creek did not look appealing to us. They looked like parking lots but reviews of those indicate some people like them. We made reservations 6 months ahead for February. The campground full signs were out when we arrived. We stayed in non-hookup site #60. All hookup sites were full even as the reservation window opened. Loops and sites are paved. There are 18 full hookup sites. Half of these are pull through sites and half are back in sites. They are long, angled, and big rig friendly. They are out in the open without any trees. The non-hookup sites range from 24' to 69'. Some are out in the open without trees. Others have trees and shrubs around them. The trees aren't over the top shade trees but can block some of the sun and add to the scenery. The shorter sites are at a right angle to the loop road. The longer sites are angled. Water is available throughout the campground in 3-faucet large trough sinks. Dumpsters and recycling stations (everything) are scattered throughout the campground. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Do go to the visitor center. It's right next to the campground. It's attractive and has some worthwhile merchandise and exhibits. We didn't do it this trip but there are a couple of eating options in Furnace Creek just a little farther beyond the visitor center: Ranch Date Grove Diner, 19th Hole Bar and Grill. Gas and diesel are available for $4 and $5.

Overall Rating:

Furnace Creek is the "populated" part of Death Valley. There are a couple of resorts, several campgrounds, a restaurant, general store, and golf course. A gas station wih $5/gallon diesel. It's a good central location for seeing the sights. Nice campground. There are a dozen or so sites with full hookups that get reserved months in advance, and another hundred or so dry sites that are easier to get. We had one of the hookup sites. It was a pull through on an asphalt pad, level, nicely spaced, with picnic table and fire ring. Some trees and bushes around the campground, which is a pleasant surprise in this part of the world. Cell service was hit and miss. We got enough to get email and text messages. You can pay for WiFi from the private resort next door, but reception will probably not be great in your rig. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

This is a great campground. We stayed in the no hookups section for 10 days and just used the dump station when needed. Full hookups are available but hard to get without a reservation. Great location in Death Valley to explore all central areas of interest. Sites and interior roads are paved and in excellent condition. There is gas & diesel available in Furnace Creek but they are expensive. Modest grocery supplies. Stock up before you come. Verizon signal was not available. We were on Extended 3G the entire time with minimal data throughput available. Many times no internet connectivity. This one is a case of location, location, location. You're in the heart of Death Valley in January with warm, sunny days and cool nights. And the scenery isn't bad either. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

W/S/E sites available. Beautiful views! Asphalt pads. There are pull thru and back in sites with full hook ups but make reservations early on recreation.gov. We made ours 6 months out for a two week stay. However, sites were available for 3 and 4 nights. Plenty of dry camping site available. Showers are available for charge through the concessionaire of the Furnace Creek Ranch. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

This is a well maintained National Park, with friendly staff at check in. Interior roads are paved and big rig access is adequate. Our site was a very long and spacious paved level pull through with plenty of space to park our towed, however the full hook up sites have no shade trees, or privacy, if you can manage it you are better off to choose one of the non electric sites which have in many cases some shade and more privacy, all sites include a picnic table and fire ring. We had a view of the mountains, however orientation of the full hook up pull through sites, exposes the passenger side to the southern sun, with little or no shade, not a good thing in Death Valley! Unfortunately there was a planned power outage on our second day here, which negated the benefits of a full hook up site and resulted in excessive use of generators and quiet time was ignored. In addition we were not warned of the power outage when checking in and only heard of it second hand from other campers, a major omission! Bathrooms were basic and showed signs of age. Pet friendly. No Wifi but AT&T had a strong 3G signal. Death Valley offers wonderful places to visit. We would stay here again. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

We were too late to get full hook-up, since it was 104 degrees that would have been nice. Sites are large, easy to navigate roads, we had a lovely tamarisk tree on site. Great stargazing. Generator hours a little different 7:00 p.m. -7:00 a.m. off. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The NPS recently renovated this park, so the roads, campsites, and bathrooms are new. The best part? They added full hookup sites that are very long. Any sized motorhome and tow will effortlessly fit. Some sites have Tamarisk trees or bushes but the full hookup sites have none. But that's not a problem because you'll have A/C and your awning will open on the north side of the RV (you'll have plenty of shade). Visitor center is a very short walk. About a quarter mile walk to the store. Great desert views. Far enough from the road that it's quiet. You get a very nice, aluminum, picnic table and a fire pit. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Eat at the Furnace Creek Inn - great food and ambiance. If you don't like the taste of your campsite water, there are two filtered water dispensers nearby - at the campground entrance kiosk and near the visitor center bathrooms.

So Death Valley National Park is over 5,000 square miles in size, yet at this primary campground, sites are crammed together in a generally rather ugly campground. Unfortunately it's probably the best campground for RVs so it is really too bad that the camping experience for us was not favorable. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

The camp ground was well taken care of and the camp host was very helpful. The park being the size it was made it so there was not a crowd problem. While the camp ground would be full each day the various sites to see would have limited attendance. The temperature was wonderful. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Open, unshaded campground as you would expect at Death Valley. The sites are large and level. We like the ones at the outside of the campground because of the views and more privacy even though they are the back-in sites. Hook-ups are generally convenient although because of our slideouts we had to park further forward and use an extra length of sewer hose. NOTICE - site 39 has the hook-ups at the very back of the site which is definitely not convenient for many RVs. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

We dry camped in a 40 Ft coach. There are full hook ups but hard to get as this is NPS reservation system. Parking was paved (different from our last visit). Host and Park Service patrol often. Lots of room between spaces. For $5 you can go to the FC Ranch and shower or use the pool. That's for the entire family for the entire day.

Had a picnic table and campfire ring. Were there to enjoy the 49 Encampment expericence which was great. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Visit Furnace Creek Inn & Resort. Pretty neat. Has 4-star fine dining. Rooms start at $360 day. Furnace Creek Ranch fun, has Borax Museum, golf & store. Also dining hall and bar. Over priced. Eat at the FC Inn. Exploring DV is the really fun thing. Went to Badwater (282 Ft below sea level) in just over an hour, Devils Point (5,560 ft above sea level).Scotty's Castle closed for next 4 years due to heavy flooding last year. Cost $40M to repair, looking for donations to help.
