We USED to LOVE Edwards - when it was run by experienced staff. Nowadays it's run by kids who don't camp. We pulled into a mostly empty park and found a spot. We got all step up and went to plug the RV in only to discover the electric box was locked so we hooked into the one next to us. We though about moving but my severely disabled husband was already exhausted and helping set up had taken the last bit of energy he had. I'm disabled too so was right there with him. The sign said to pay at the 'common area'. We walked around the bathrooms looking for a sign that said 'common area'. We asked base security, the commissary and anyone else we could find. No one knew where the common area was. We finally went to Outdoor Rec but were sent back to the park. We finally found a young woman sitting in the weight room watching tv and playing on her phone. We asked why the power was locked at our site and were told many of the sites had no power. She treated me like I was an idiot for not knowing that the weight room was the common area and that half the sites lacked power. We had to pay for both sites so it cost us $50 a night to stay there. While we were there, we warned several other campers who pulled in and started setting up about the power problems and helped them find working sites. We also had other campers knocking on our door asking where the 'common area' was so apparently we're not the only so-called clueless campers she had to deal with. Tips for Edwards to make this a decent place to stay again. 1). Call the 'common area' what it is or post a sign on the door saying 'common area'. 2). Accept RV site payments at Outdoor Rec again. 3) Post a sign at the partially closed sites that say 'No Electricity'. 4) Try to find people who actually camp to run the RV park because they would understand all of the above instead of rolling their eyes. We camped at Edwards AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

My husband, retired AF Major, and I have been blessed to travel our beautiful country and stay, as often as we can, on military bases. I have to say Edwards FamCamp is an embarrassment to our military. About 1/2 of the have spots have locks on the electric boxes (a fellow camper said they are having electric problems) A helpful tip would be to post on the box OR just put the picnic table across the spot. We saw quite a few people, spending precious time driving spot to spot to find one that is operational. Second, the entire campground looks like it's in a third world country. Bathroom facilities filthy, trash full and no one has used a rake around here for months. And, it wouldn't surprise me that it's not making any money, since the phone is never answered and on-site there is NO paperwork available to self pay. Very disappointed. We camped at Edwards AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Tent Trailer.

RVers beware, if you park in spots 11-20 you may not have enough power to run AC when hot. Circuit Breaker trips the whole line. Outdoor rec is aware of problem and they told me that they will block some of the sites which they did, however, an RVer moved the cone and parked there anyway. Was told by old camp host it was ok. Civil Engineering has also told outdoor rec not to use all spots on that line because circuit breaker over heats and could cause a fire. Reason for poor rating outdoor rec not doing their job. The fam camp site has 25 spots that can accommodate fivers, trailers, and RVs. It has an overflow parking location as well. We took our TT and stayed 2 nights with a late check-in on our first day on a Friday. It was the weekend of Memorial Day and the park had about 6-8 spots available. The spot we got was on the west side of the loop with FHU. It was an end pad so we had plenty of parking space for my tow vehicle alongside our TT. The pad was asphalt and I did need to level my TT. The right side of our TT was lower than the left side. Quiet location away from the main road, but close to everything. The Express at the gas station was a 5 minute walk or less from our spot. The bowling alley is also walking distance away, maybe a 5 minute walk, if that. The BX, Commissary, and Burger King can be walked to as well. But I would suggest taking a vehicle if you plan on loading up on groceries and snacks. The walk can be cumbersome in the heat while carrying multiple bags of items. There is a swimming pool, tennis courts (although it needs to be weeded), laundry, men's/women's showers and toilets, and a small room with an ice machine, two exercise bikes, tables, and Directv. The campsite, as a whole, was very clean. I would say this place is good to get away, kick up your feet, and just relax. There aren't much else to do except for what I mentioned above. One thing to note about the spot on west side of the loop that we stayed in, your awning is minimally effective in blocking the sun. Until it gets later in the day, where the back end of your TT/RV assists in blocking out most of the sun. One thing I seemed to notice was a few of the campers onsite were homesteaders. It was quite obvious who they were. Overall, this isn't a bad place. But it isn't something to write home about either. Until they allow reservations and minimize homesteaders, this place will be at the bottom of my list. We camped at Edwards AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed at the campground for a week prior to Christmas. There were plenty of sites available at that time. Sites are relatively level, only requiring a couple of blocks. There is a check in board at the entrance of the park where you place your money in the locked box and registration card on the back of the board. I had contact with the camp host prior to our arrival checking on availability however never saw him during our stay. The Wi-Fi was down when we got there and it took about four days before we got it back up. There is no cable and no TV signal. There was a Direct TV in the lounge however that was down as well throughout our stay. BX, commissary, and service station were open except for Christmas. Most other base functions to include the club were down. A decent place to stay. We camped at Edwards AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

The base is very easy to get to from Hwy 58. You will go under a train trestle just off of Hwy 58, the height sign says its 14’. The park is very clean and the camp host very welcoming. You share the hook-up area with the neighboring site which makes the driver’s side slide outs of your RV inches from your neighbors. We used 2 electrical cords due to the length from the back of our rig to the electrical box. There are 2 roads inside the park, a perimeter road and an interior ring so rigs can pull in from either direction. Parking of your TV or toad should NOT protrude onto the perimeter/interior roadway. There was an individual in a Class A who parked his toad in front of his rig on the interior road, while we were there, which impeded our ability to stay on the roadway. We enjoyed our stay and will return. We camped at Edwards AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Well kept, easy walk to Commissary, PX. Upgraded PX now can purchase weapons! Park is desert venue, can be very very hot in July-Aug. Cools late Sept... very nice in Jan-May, stretch in June. Great layover place. Always easy to pull through in all spots. The host is very amiable, keeps it nice. We hope you stay host! Overall Rating:

A nicely maintained park, well off the main highways but the only alternative in an area with few desirable parks. Pull through sites have shared hookup stations, and if both are full it can be uncomfortably close. The cement pads are nice; however, ours had a concave surface and after a rare rain we were left with a pond. Good laundry and community room. Verizon cell and broadband worked well. During our stay there was no Wi-Fi at the park, only at the BX food court. The base is a ghost town on weekends, so be prepared to drive to town or cook at home. The adequate BX and Commissary are nearby, and the bowling alley has a snack bar and is within walking distance. Not a destination, but a place to stay when traveling through the area. RV park was very well maintained. Host came over and helped us with an informative tour of the facilities and even offered his pickup so we could go to the store for groceries. Nice place to run in the morning; good paved paths. Roomy sites. Great sunsets and sunrises. We would stay here again. We camped at Edwards AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

This is one of our favorite military campgrounds. Edwards is always on top of their game and everything you would expect a military base to be. The FamCamp is easy to find, close to shopping, and all the other perks you look for in a base camp. The playing of reverie and taps remind you this is a base as do the planes taking off and landing. Wi-Fi is available nearby at Starbucks. There is a nice plane museum/display located close to the camp and makes a nice evening walk when the temps drop. Overall Rating:

Available to military active duty, retirees, sponsored guests, and DoD civilians. Number of sites reflects both with hookups (25) and dry camp (31). Only one shower shared by genders. Single toilets in each lavatory; not clean on our visit. Base pool within walking distance, BX and commissary walking distance. Nice path for dog walking with doggy bags provided. No reservations, self-check in after hours. We camped at Edwards AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.
