The park is a campground, really suited to tenting rather than rv'ing. They definitely need to step up with maintenance if they want me to camp. Trees and shrubs are not trimmed to a safe height or on the sides of the road for rv's to negotiate the road safely. Having damaged the rubber roof on a trailer once and incurred the associated expense I will not be camping there again unless they step up their pruning and do a proper job for rv's. If not then leave this campground to the tenters. We camped at Dixon Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for one week in a 43ft Diesel Pusher. There are numerous sections and elevations to this park. It is tucked away and about 13 miles from hwy 78 which goes to the coast (Oceanside-Carlsbad) and IH 5. We normally stay closer in but our regular park was booked.

The only down side to this park is WI-FI and Telephone (Verizon) service. It is extremely week and sometimes unusable and it was a necessary item for us. For that reason alone, I could not stay here again (we work while on the road). I understand it is not totally there fault. We used our own Hot spot. They provide Tengonet for 1 computer and charge for any others. Access to spaces for big rigs is good....they will selectively place you where you will fit. It has many trees available and two ponds, and family friendly. Many travel trailers and permanent residents but the park is very well maintained , clean and manicured. It is easy access from IH 15 and about 12 miles to the north end of Escondido. I could not stay here again because of communication access issues. We camped at Dixon Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We spent one night at a site that had full hookups. The park was very clean, beautiful and easy to get in and out of. The park allows fishing but no swimming since it's a municipal water source. You can also rent paddle boats and small motor boats but go early because they rent out quickly on the weekend. We camped at Dixon Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: March, 2014 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here in a tent, and most spots are shady and secluded. It was nice and quiet, and the park staff was friendly. There were clean bathrooms nearby, and electricity if needed. The camping spots are a short walk from Dixon Lake where we rented a little boat and went fishing. Their rules are a bit tight with campfires, but it's understandable with the fire danger around the area. All in all a nice place with a decent price! We camped at Dixon Lake Campground in a Tent.

Date of Stay: June, 2009 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Dixon Lake Camping Area is located just north of downtown Escondido on La Honda Drive, off of El Norte Parkway. It is owned and operated by the City of Escondido. The park staff and rangers were all very friendly and helpful, and took care of all my questions and needs in a professional and courteous manner. Access to the park will tax large/heavy rigs, as there is a roughly 15° grade for ~1/4 mile approaching the park entrance. Use low gear when leaving, and low gear & lots of throttle when arriving! The campground sites are located at the south end of the park, overlooking downtown Escondido and Dixon Lake. We stayed at a back-in site, which was very easy to enter and exit with my 31' Class A coach. There was abundant room to open my slide-out and all awnings and still not feel cramped. The site had utility hookups (10 of the 47 total sites have utility hookups) and a nice-sized private picnic area. There was a charcoal grilling ring - no wood fires are allowed due to wildfire risk - and picnic table and storage cabinet. The site landscaping is native scrub, with ground keeping limited only to clearing overgrowth and nightly trash removal. This campground is very quiet and relaxing, and within easy access to shopping should you need something. Bring your fishing rod, as the world's largest Bass (see link in the park's website above) is waiting for you in this lake! The only two disappointments I have with the park are that there is no swimming allowed in the lake (drinking water reservoir), and no pets are allowed in the campground (possibly due to local coyote activity). Also, alcohol is prohibited in the picnic areas, but permitted in the camping area. Those minor gripes aside, I enjoyed my stay at this campground and will definitely be back! We camped at Dixon Lake Campground in a Motorhome.
