Nice quiet park very well located near the fun town of Ferndale. We realized later we could have dry camped for $12.00. We camped at Humboldt County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

No frills campground next to the fairgrounds. $28 for a night is a deal. Since I was there for only one night they allowed me to park on the asphalt. The campground is grass in need of cutting. Staff was friendly and helpful. It's a bit of a drive off of US 101 but worth the drive for the price. Dump is inside the fence behind the first building. We camped at Humboldt County Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a typical Fairgrounds Rv Park --- just a grassy area with water and power stickups. Roads and site are ill defined. The bathrooms are clean enough and there was lots of hot water. There is no laundry or amenities. I think this park would be a mud pit in the rain. We actually set up in on the asphalt parking area next to the campground and hooked into the nearest water and power. We had the camping best spot OUT of the Rv park. Downtown Ferndale is beautiful and walking distance away. T-Mobile data worked great so we never tried the park's wifi. We camped at Humboldt County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is the second time we stayed here and also the 2nd Thanksgiving. The price of $28 is a great deal during events or the summer. Not so much in November. The sites are grass over gravel and when it rains hard several lakes develop and the mud gets a little slick but the gravel prevents you from sinking in. The bathrooms and showers are very clean and entry is controlled with a locking device. It's only .5 mile into old town. Verizion MiFi worked fine. They have WIFI here but we could never get it to work, we were at the far end of the lot. Very nice pastoral views with barns, green grass, cows, etc. The place was very quiet during the evening but our site backs up to the race track, ball diamond, and grandstands for the fair grounds. I imagine it gets pretty loud during events. Not well defined spaces. We camped at Humboldt County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Ferndale is a very nice little town and it has the farthest west bar in the lower 48. This is the start of the Lost Coast and a beautiful drive along the ocean. Scout before you take your RV down it. Lots of steep grades, sharp turns, and dips. There is a nice cheese shop in Loleta and Brewery in Fortuna.

RV Price appears to have gone up to $28. Tenting is $13.

Although ground is uneven, you can find semi level sites. Power was good and DTV Sat access was good in site 8 away from the row of tall trees. We camped at Humboldt County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

We started a Oregon Coast tour from northern California, and Ferndale was our 1st stop. My dad recommended the Fairgrounds. It served the purpose well. Clean, quiet place to base camp. We went to the beach a few miles away, and spent a morning checking out old town Ferndale. Old Victorian buildings and quaint shops. Also Lolita cheese factory on our way north has great cheese and spreads. Will stay here again someday, passing through Ferndale California. We camped at Humboldt County Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

We were here over Thanksgiving and there were only 4 or 5 other units camped here. When it rains it gets a lot of puddles and some surface mud but the coach did not sink in the mud because it's got a gravel base. It's kind of lumpy but the coach was able to level up just fine. This time of year the bathrooms were clean with good hot water in the shower and moderate pressure. Verizion MiFi worked fine but there's no wifi or cable. If you use satellite you should be able to find a space with a lot of open sky. The staff were friendly and helpful. The road and sites are grass covered gravel and when it gets wet it gets a little muddy but not impassable. There are no picnic tables or fire rings. The $25/day seems like a pretty good deal for the area and if we get back here we'll probably stay here again. We camped at Humboldt County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a great place to visit historic Ferndale, drive along the Lost Cost (best not done in your MH or RV until you do a recon drive. It's paved but full of big dips, steep drop offs, steep narrow roads, and tight switchbacks) You are also pretty close to the Eel River Brewery, and you're only a few minuets from a very nice beach.

Basically an open field with water and electric services. It was the day after the county fair ended and they were busy with people leaving and picking up. We were grateful that they let us stay when they were so busy. Good value. We camped at Humboldt County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

This campground has probably 100 sites but they're not lined out at all. So you can't see where you're supposed to park. No pull thrus at all. So everybody is parked like sardines. There's no picnic-tables to eat on, no privacy, there's no trees to divide your areas, there's no Wi-Fi no cable no sewer so that's why only $25. Not good for more than 3 days! It's disgusting to camp out near a nice beautiful town but there's no sewer to accommodate you! There's only one toilet for the men & the campground was packed -Summertime. People's children were playing around & in the toilet, so we couldn't get in. The camp host is very friendly and accommodating, she told the kids to get out and spoke to their parents, she tried very hard to help as best she can within her limits. It seems she's very limited on what she can do. There was no toilet paper and she didn't know where it was kept, the restroom person wasn't home, so she hunted all over the fairgrounds for some, she found some for us, that was really great of her to work so hard to find it. This was a Saturday. They don't seem very organized there, they should of told her where supplies are. People brought 3-4 large dogs! There was no Wi-Fi -odd, being that it's the campground on a Fairgrounds which is a tourist attraction so should have Wi-Fi & NO cable, you're right down from a little town/city. When you're traveling long days of time it is nice to see a little television sometimes. I noticed the town has bad Wifi as well and coffee shops eateries don't provide wifi?? Odd. It's not landscaped it's just a field of dead grass and weeds, lots of hard ground & rocks, it's not maintained, it's first come first serve but I noticed others had reservations?? There's no drinking water, or snack shop, there's an office open all week. It says open to 5 but they treat you like you're a bother to them, not very friendly, didn't give out info on attractions of interest. Nice surroundings good for short stay. We camped at Humboldt County Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The little town of Ferndale is beautiful. And little Papa Joes old style coffee shop, coffee is just $1 is great cooking. Some shops and restaurants over priced. Guess they think they are a pretty big deal attraction? The prices are comparable to San Franciso. If you need a CVS too bad. There is not 1 reg store or gas station. No McDonald's for late night ice cream cravings. No store open past 10pm so if something happens at midnight you have to drive to the next town away. Be prepared.

Keeping in mind that this is a County fair grounds, this location was practically perfect. The location was very quiet and the view of the farms across the way were amazing. The location is convenient to the highway, but out of the way of traffic. We drive in a 40 foot motorhome and getting in and out of the location was very easy. The water pressure was good and the 30 amp power was very clean. The camp ground host was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return here again. Be sure to check out the towns of Ferndale and Fortuna. Also, in Ferndale, check out the Black smith shop and the museum. Also, be sure to check out Centerville Beach County park which is only 5 miles west of the campground.

Ferndale is the attraction here. The RV park is really just a dirt field with water and electric. Staff are nice and helpful. They have a few paved spots inside the fairgrounds and a couple with 50 amp. Call ahead to make sure the fair is not in session. But Ferndale is worth it. A wonderful little town with lots of Victorian houses and buildings. A great walking town. Lots to see. Hotel Ivanhoe has a wonderful restaurant. Definitely try the sandwiches at The Meat Company. Travel caution – the road between Shelter Cove and north to Ferndale (the Lost Coast) is terrible. The road itself is in horrible condition with dirt in a few spots. And since the pavement is in such terrible condition, the dirt is better. Many, many tight turns with many very tight hairpin switchbacks steep both up and down. We had to disconnect twice on hairpins (38’ Class A with dingy). Speed is usually under 25 MPH and one still bounces all over the place. The drive is just not worth it. The view is nothing to speak of. Only a short view of the coast. Much better views can be had at Shelter Cove or Ferndale. We camped at Humboldt County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

This is a good spot while looking the area over. Campground has been around for many years and does lack maintenance. Grounds are clean along with the showers. All sites are not level but not far off. We have stayed here at least once a year for the past ten years. It is a good place to stay. No sewer on sites but if does have a dump station. We camped at Humboldt County Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.
