Very well maintained grounds and facilities. Nice showers/bathrooms. Pull-throughs are tight and short. A park in this price range should be perfect. This one was not. Sewer connections are small. Standard fittings don't fit. The restaurant in the adjoining inn is quite pretty, but service was amateurish, and breakfasts were cold. Rate posted was approximate (I couldn't find the bill!). We have driven by this park for years and decided to stay since it converted to a KOA. We stayed in a "premium" site on the end of a row closest to the Eel River with an enlarged green grass area and concrete patio. The staff was very friendly and courteous upon check-in. Recent upgrades and improvements are visible and more appear to be in the works. The new splash park (spray ground) for kids and a new playground are a nice addition. A new friendship hall was under construction during our stay. Several new cabins have been added. The cable TV service was clear and provided 68 channels. The park was about half full during our stay but generally quiet with no loud campers, radios or late night parties. The park was safe enough for our son to ride his bike around without much trouble. As others have noted, this older campground still needs physical infrastructure improvements. The interior roads need to be widened and sharp turns should be removed to make the park big rig friendly. The pull-thru campsites are narrow asphalt strips about 9' wide with no room to walk around on the pavement if you have slide-outs. All the sewer connections have 10' high vent pipes located within inches of the asphalt near the rear of each site which can pose a problem if you have a rear driver's side slide out. The sites are generally level but the asphalt is so old that some sites have visible valleys and high spots from the wear of rigs being parked on the pavement and displacing the asphalt over time. It would help if the owners widened the sites, straightened some of the sharp turns, and repaved everything. This place has great potential given the surrounding area, golf course, and nearby Benbow Inn. We will definitely stay again and hope they keep making improvements. This park recently became a KOA. There is evidence that things are getting better, but there is still a a lot of work to be done. Sites are not level and the place needs to be repaved. Nice pool and water play area for kids. Probably won't stay here again. We camped at Benbow KOA (formerly Benbow RV Park) in a Travel Trailer.Undo

This is an older campground that has been recently converted to a KOA. While the campground is clean and cell service is good the web site is a bit of over the top on the looks of this campground. While this is a pet friendly park our doggy picked up a lot of small burrs in his feet when we walked him. They also advertise a pet bathing area, but the sink was really dirty and there was no warm water. On the morning we left, they must have watered the area and the both sides of the RV and car were wet. We camped at Benbow KOA (formerly Benbow RV Park) in a Motorhome.Undo

The previous post pretty much hit this park right on the head. For years I'd driven by this Park with the golf course up on the hills and thought that would be a neat place to camp. First of all they were way over priced by about $10 on the basic Campsite. Second the campground was in dire need of some upkeep. And third I would not want to maneuver in this park when it is full or half full the roads are way too tight for the size of rigs that come in and out. One of the good things they had was a expanded cable network which was included in the base camp site price. I would probably not stay here again specially during peak season. Vastly over priced. Probably paying for golf course. Short, un-level site. And very narrow. Restrooms had dirty sinks full of dead bugs, dirty floor littered with paper, and in dire need of painting. Nicely landscaped. Would only stay here again if under $30. We camped at Benbow KOA (formerly Benbow RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.Undo

A nice park with level pads and quality hookups. They're in the process of building a new kids' splash pad, so that will be a nice addition in a month or two. Note, the spa is closed during construction. Wi-Fi wasn't strong enough to use at our site (in the middle of the park), but there was good Verizon voice & data coverage in the area. We had some minor issues with management, but overall the park was OK, and we would consider staying there again if in the area. But the management could do a better job of check-in and maintenance. A very nice pleasant park in a beautiful, woodsy, mountain setting. Golf and a classy hotel with fine dinning and cocktail lounge also share the area. Large sites, large clean restrooms with many showers, toilets, and sinks. Never a wait. Swimming pool was a favorite for the kids, and they were adding some more water features for future visitors. The front half of the park is well maintained, everything looking good, but the back half of the park was unkempt; leaves and twigs everywhere, if a camper moves out, you get his trash. I don't think they do any maintenance on the back 40, but the restrooms are very nice back there. We camped at Benbow KOA (formerly Benbow RV Park) in a Motorhome.Undo

Appears new? Owners are starting to fix park up. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Park appears to have a lot of long termers and are adding several cabins. Sites are very tight with poles protecting power pedestals obstructing turns into sites. Entry into park is pretty tight especially when obstructed by random parked cars. We had a couple problems during our visit. Power issues that didn't get fixed correctly the first time. Sprinkler system also sprayed water all over rig and car. Although the water wasn't too hard, it did leave spots everywhere. Not sure we would return, especially if normal rate is $60 per night. Great park, lots of things to do. Very nice golf course, pool, hot tub, store, Wi-Fi, good cable, big rig friendly, concrete pad and grass sitting area, fenced dog yard, and fenced dog wash. Close to freeway, good central location, close to Ave of the Giants, Shelter Cove, and along Eel River. Verizon OK, Benbow Inn next door. Tea and homemade scones every day at 3 pm. Hard to beat, will stop again. We camped at Benbow KOA (formerly Benbow RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.Undo

This was a wonderful base for driving the Avenue of the Giants. In addition to lovely sites, the park offers golf, shuffleboard, horseshoes and pool. The initial contact left me thinking this might be a "snooty" park, but everyone we met was friendly and helpful. We did walk under the highway for a late afternoon wine and appetizer. There is happy hour from 4-6 and fairly priced food of good quality. We would stop here again. We camped at Benbow KOA (formerly Benbow RV Park) in a Motorhome.Undo

A gorgeous park from what we saw, as we only stayed one night. We were placed right next to the restrooms, as we asked. Other than that, buy everything you need before getting there because their store is outrageous. It's the only place within quite a ways to get anything, so they take advantage. Closing down the game room with the business hours is a little lame, but it's not a huge deal. The restaurant next door, and walking over to it under the 101, was the best part of the night we spent there. Even if you don't eat at the pricey restaurant, take the walk next to the river and under the highway.. Very cool. We camped at Benbow KOA (formerly Benbow RV Park) in a Motorhome.Undo

Would probably give it a 10 if it was summer and I played golf. It's in a great valley, and the course looked very nice. We were here in January, and it was just rainy and soaked. Not their fault. The area is very grassy which is great, but it was a soggy mess and hard to stay out of the mud. There is a cement slab at each site so you can align with that. We'd love to come back in spring. As a side note it looks like a great spot for kids, too. We camped at Benbow KOA (formerly Benbow RV Park) in a Motorhome.Undo

This is probably one of the nicer parks in the area but it is nowhere near as nice as it used to be. I'm not sure if I was bothering the lady when I checked in and handed her my cash but a smile and a 'welcome' would have been nice, also, a 'thank you', would have been nicer. It looks like about 50% permanent residents now which seems to be a trend in most western parks now. It's January so the golf course is very soggy right now but it is the nicest feature of this park. I would not recommend paying extra for a "premium" site. They are nothing more than a site on the end of a row with cheap, dirty, plastic yard furniture as the added amenity. This is an older park that is showing it's age. The park is clean and neat with very good amenities including golf. The Wi-Fi and TV are good. The space we had was big enough but had a rather large puddle and was somewhat muddy along the edges. The power seemed OK but the pedestal was missing the door. The water faucet would not shut off completely. We camped at Benbow KOA (formerly Benbow RV Park) in a Motorhome.Undo
