Tree of Heaven is a Federal campground located about 11 miles north west of Yreka CA. There are 2 ways of getting there, the most simple is to take the Hwy 96 exit off of I-5 just north of Yreka. There is a much more scenic route if you exit at Yreka and follow the secondary road, CA 263. This is our preferred route as it has several of the beautiful old old arch bridges and also eliminates the rather long grade found on I-5.

We have stayed at this campground several times over the years and find it a pleasant and peaceful place, right on the Klamath river among lots of old shade trees (be very careful for headroom when driving through the campground, some branches are low) This is a typical National Forest campground having a host, a dumpster, pit toilets, and drinking water. No electricity and no dump station. Fishing is right there, as is a small boat ramp and hiking trails. Not especially big rig friendly, we have a 24' Class C with a tow vehicle, but did see some larger 5th wheel rigs.

The access road to the campground is steep, but paved and we had no problems, just be advised that the entrance is on a curve off of hwy 96. There is a turn lane, but extra care is needed just the same. The beauty of this campground is well worth the little extra effort getting there. We camped at Tree of Heaven Campground USFS in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Fishing is right there as are interesting side roads along the river. Closest stores and gas are in Yreka, 11 miles.

The drive into the park is steep and has sharp curves but is it doable. There were at least 3 sites large enough for our 40' motorhome and 1 was a pull through. The park is along the Klamath River, quiet and very nice. We would stay there again. There is no cell/Internet reception. We camped here for 1 week. We camped at Tree of Heaven Campground USFS in a Motorhome.

Destination campground is located 4 miles 'west' of I-5 on Highway 96 (Exit 786) and is on the Klamath River. There is River access for fishing, and kayak & small boat launch. Twenty-one asphalt sites, most level, pit toilets, water faucet. Sites can be reserved between mid May and mid October for a $9 additional fee (go to the website for info) or contact the Ranger at 530-493-2243. Quiet and secluded, Campground Host during summer. We camped at Tree of Heaven Campground USFS in a Fifth Wheel.
