We absolutely LOVE Huntington Beach and Sunset Vista RV Park has always been perfect for us until "The Bungalow" nightclub opened up across the street. We were supposed to stay 7 nights returning home this coming Monday. Unfortunately, the noise coming out of The Bungalow directed towards the beach was so out of control we couldn't take it anymore and left 3 (already paid) days early. It's unfortunate because there is so much to do there within walking distance and the beaches are amazing. This is not the fault of the campground or any of the people who work there. I hope my husband and I can give it another chance because we do like to be with our friends there. It has water, electric and one dump station which seems to be sufficient. Take bikes, enjoy the beaches and the plentiful restaurants. Lots to do in surrounding area and there is always Disneyland. Fire rings are also available on the sand right in front of the campground; you may want to take firewood. I'd also want to mention the AMAZING sunsets! We camped at Sunset Vista RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We have been to this location many times over the years. This year we decided to stay a full week. The completion of the "Pacific Shopping Center" across the street was always a plus due to the closeness of various restaurants, so we naturally went there for dinner many times. This trip was different due to a nightclub / bar that opened in this center basically over-looking the RV park. This nightclub ran a DJ with pounding loud music till the early hours making our stay no longer a nice beach front stay. I feel confident that the City of Huntington Beach would never allow this loud of music on Main Street. They need to reevaluate any conditional use permits. We camped at Sunset Vista RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Like I mentioned, the new Pacific shopping center is close and has multiple restaurants. Multiple other stores and eating places all within walking distance. Biking is good.

Overall Rating:

The location is great - steps from the sand in Huntington Beach, and a short walk to bars, restaurants and entertainment, including the new Pacific City complex. There are a few drawbacks: no sewer hookups (but there is a dump station), small spots (looks like a parking lot conversion), and a lot of foot traffic. But these drawbacks are easily outweighed by the great location. Book early. This park fills up quickly. We camped at Sunset Vista RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Sunset Vista is quite literally a parking lot. The city of Huntington Beach, in order to create some off season revenue have added hookups (water and electric) to an existing parking lot. The up side of this campground is that you are mere steps from the sand and the pacific ocean. The down side is that you are also within steps from a major coastal roadway in back of the camping area, Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1). The campsites are all asphalt, and each one is 6 parking spaces in size. That is that the sites are made up of three car size parking spaces wide, and two spaces deep. In reality, that is a fairly good size RV space, room for your RV, tow car, and plenty of outside sitting room. The electrical pedestal is 50 amp, and water faucets on a raised concrete pad to separate the sites. There is a dump station on site. The sites cost $70 per night, and reservations are made on line on the cities web site. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby in walking distance, and a walk/bike trail also right in front of the beach sand. The Huntington Beach pier is about a 5 minute walk down the bike path. Handicapped restroom and shower facilities are nearby, but are also public accessible. WiFi is available if you have a hot spot or air card, but the campground has no WiFi of it's own. There are two rows of sites. The front row is angled parking for rigs 30' and below, the second row is pull through for rigs up to 40', but I did see a few rigs that pushed that limit by a few feet. One big downside for this location is the noise from PCH, and a nearby high rise construction project that is across PCH. Also because this site fronts a public beach, the weekends are extremely busy with lots of people and walkers and bikers packing up the bike path. The cost and crowds didn't discourage the campers though, as the park was near capacity every night. I would hesitate to come back due to the noise and crowds. We camped at Sunset Vista RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Great location next to the pier with breath taking views of the ocean and surf. Only available during the fall, winter, and spring. Reservations are mail in, and first come first served. Plenty of space between sites and pretty level sites. You are camping in a parking lot with water and electric. There is one dump station with easy access. We plan to return in the spring. We camped at Sunset Vista RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Fantastic beachfront camping which is basically a parking lot with hookups. The pull-through sites are nice and wide (plenty of room for big rigs) which is hard to come by at most state beach campgrounds. The location is perfect and is within easy walking distance of the pier and downtown. The doggy beach is about a 1 mile walk. Good restaurants, bars and shopping in the area. I didn't rate a 10 due to no showers, sewer or Wi-Fi. We camped at Sunset Vista RV Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: February, 2008 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Beach and ocean-front camping in a parking lot. The fantastic ocean view can be blocked unless parked in the front row. Reservations by mail only, well in advance (for weekends). Closed during the summer and during special events. Bicycle rentals are nearby and several restaurants and shops are nearby. The campground is very close to the long pier. Handicapped rate is $50 a night, regularly $60 a night. Dump station has 2 lanes and gets busy at checkout time. The pull-through sites are roomy. It can get a little rowdy. Bikes and pets allowed on the beach boardwalk. There is a dog beach in the area but not really within walking distance. Close to Southern California attractions. Fires are allowed in fire rings on the beach. We will be back as soon as we can get reservations in the fall. We camped at Sunset Vista RV Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: December, 2005 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Sunset Vista RV Park is owned and operated by the City of Huntington Beach. It is a fun place with many activities. It is located on one of the nicest beaches in California. It is located right on the same beach that the popular OP Pro surf contest is located. It is near one of the longest piers in the US. There is a nice downtown area nearby with something for all ages. There are bicycle and pedals cars for multiple riders to ride on the very nice beachwalk. There are surfboard, bodyboard, and wetsuit rentals too. Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm are 20 to 30 minutes away. We camped here in our toy hauler in December of 2005. The sites are large, flat, and clean. The only thing I didn't like was there was no shade, but that is why we have our awning. The kids (both 13 years old) had a blast with all the activities. Riding bikes, playing in the sand and waves (too cold for me and mom, eating at Ruby's (hamburger joint) on the end of the pier, and getting icecream in the downtown area. The campground is not the quietest I have stayed at, as you could hear the traffic on Pacific Coast Highway nearby, but it was not that bad. The campground is only open from October 1 through May 31, I suspect because the city needs the parking for summertime. There are not individual sewer hookups, but there is a nicely setup dump station. This is not a quiet wilderness type campground. It is a very fun location for the family so I rated it as a 10 because of what it is. It is not the cheapest, but we will definitely be going back in the near future. We camped at Sunset Vista RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
