Crystal Cove is one of the best CA state parks we have come across. It is a newer campground, the facilities are in good working condition and the staff is extremely friendly. There are three loops, one with hookups and two without. If you are able to get a site in the Dolphin loop on the edge grab it, they have the best ocean view sites! Despite being on the PCH traffic noise isn't too obtrusive. Sites are quite large, fairly level and clean. Restrooms are clean, we saw the rangers clean the restrooms every single morning. Water was hot and facilities were fairly new. The staff was very friendly and this park has free WIFI. It was slow at times but overall it worked for 95% of what we needed. The park is 5 minutes from downtown Laguna Beach, and less than a mile from a plaza with stores including a Trader Joes and Starbucks. There is also several walking and mountain biking trails you can access from your camper as well as a path to the beach. The very best part about Crystal Cove is between January and March or April (?) the are offering 30% off on non-hookup sites for Sun - Thurs which including tax makes the sites less than $40 per night - which is the same as other CA state parks in the area that are not nearly as nice and don't have WIFI. They do have a 7 night max stay but after going to a different state park we decided to return for another 5 night stay. One downside - no firepits, they said fires were not allowed but we did observe some people who brought their own. We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Motorhome.

Amazing views! Staying here was an amazing experience; I highly recommend it. The sites have plenty of room between them and every one has a good view of the ocean. The RV sites are a little further away from the water so don't think you're going to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. You'll occasionally hear it. But, you're also not right next to PCH which could be loud.

No sewer and no cable at the sites. We were able to get some over-the-air TV stations. It took a little while to find the network channels--turns out we were getting San Diego stations. We had some guests visit us. Parking is $15.

We loved it here. Looking forward to going again if I can get the reservations. We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

You're by the beach! Take a stroll along the sand or hike the multitudes of hiking trails directly accessible from the campsite.

One of my all-time-favorite parks! Sites are tiered so nearly everyone has a full ocean view (though you have to take a tunnel under the freeway to get to the beach). Level, easy in-and-out. Price includes the (prorated) Reserve America fee. It's steep for water and electric only, but you're getting a million-dollar view (we saw whales and dolphins from our window!). Didn't really notice freeway noise - guess it's drowned out by the surf. Good Verizon and AT&T signals, decent OTA TV (especially if you speak Spanish). Great (but hilly) walking, hiking, biking trails. We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

There's a big range of quality from one park employee to another. Some were great; others were total control freak jerks. I guess if you can't get a job as a prison guard, then you apply to work as a park ranger so that you can boss people around. The campground is fairly high on a bluff. Landscaping is natural scrub chaparral, beautiful but no shade really. The campsites are gravel and are absolutely huge. They are mostly level, but bring blocks or have a leveling system. About half of the campground has water and power; the other half does not. There are water views from many of the sites. The beach is nearby, but it's a good half mile down a steep hill, so you might want to drive. Wifi is available, but not guaranteed. It worked fine for us most of the time. We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a small state beach campground, really well-designed for maximum ocean views, with beautiful native plant landscaping. There is a trail down to a great beach. Tons to do in nearby upscale communities of Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Irvine. The downside was the horrible traffic in the area -- it seems to take forever to get anywhere. I would have stayed longer but the park was booked solid! We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

They allow generators in the non hook up areas and we had three near us running all day long, very noisy. The traffic noise is unbearable too as is the school that is next door. Campers stay up late (past ten) and play music and talk loud. Tons of Glampers and kids running around. People act as though they are entitled, they don't pay attention to the rules or the signs. Saw a sanitary napkin on the floor of the shower and the toilets were very unclean. Showers were cold and two were out of order. Security is very poor, had homeless people walk past our site daily. We never saw a state patrol person drive by. Make sure you put everything away at night. The view is excellent, but who needs all the other headaches. After all, when we camp we want to relax and get away from it all. We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Tent.

Date of Stay: April, 2014 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for one night. The park is situated on a bluff overlooking the ocean. There are numerous trails for hiking and biking. In order to get to the beach you have to walk or drive down a steep grade to the lower parking area, then walk through a tunnel to the beach. All the spots are generally level, with a gravel base. The dump station has three sites located near the ranger station, a nice feature. Restrooms are very clean, tokens required for showers, dispensers at each shower building. The closest grocery store is approximately one mile, Trader Joe’s. I felt the camping rate of $61.00 was excessive and increases in May, but it’s CA. I stayed in the non hookup sites with maximum RV size of 25'. The $35 rate is for the winter off season ending May 1. There is now access to campground from both northbound and southbound Pacific Coast Highway-controlled by a signal. Campground is nicely terraced with ocean views from most or all campsites. The campground is located about 150 ft. vertically up from ocean via a paved road/sidewalk-set back maybe half mile. A steep but short climb. Ocean at this location was beautiful during my stay mid April 2014 and relatively clear and blue. During my stay during spring break lots, of families and kids looked to be having fun. No behavior problems or excess noise. Restrooms very clean by CA state park standards. Sites nice sized, but some leveling required. Somewhat narrow access roads in campground. Campground is planted in native vegetation which was blooming and fragrant during my visit. No wood burning. We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Motorhome.

As a campground, Crystal Cove is not particularly beautiful. There are distant ocean views from just about all sites, but the landscaping is poorly-planned and kind of ugly. We had a 12-foot bush right in front of where a center-entrance front door would be, luckily we have a rear entrance. Some sites have a huge bush right at the back of the pad, blocking the ocean view. On the positive side, the beach is just a 10-minute walk away and it is spectacular. You can walk for miles, look at tide pools, watch the surfers, and get lost. The nearby towns of Laguna Beach and Newport Beach are great for shopping and eating. My rating is a combination of a "10" for location and a "5" for the campground itself. We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Talk about RV heaven! This exquisite park overlooks a 3.5 mile beach. We had site 42, and we looked over an amazing cove. There is easy access to the beach from the campground. The whole park is immaculately kept. Can't wait to return.. We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This park has a lovely view of the Pacific, but access from the campground is through the day use area and a tunnel under the coastal highway. It is a steep walk down and back to the day use area, but doable for most people. Sites are adequate, although asphalt is crumbling a bit and some shrubbery hides part of the view. Some sites also could use some leveling. A problem is that I made reservations in the summer and prepaid $75 per day. Sometime in the fall they dropped the daily price to $55, but did not notify me and would not refund the difference. They suggested I should have cancelled and remade my reservation or come in on a walk-in basis. Also, be warned that they do not allow you to occupy your site before the 3:00 pm check-in time regardless of how long it has been empty. I had to drive down the beach and sit in my RV for over two hours waiting until the magic hour. This does not make sense because there cannot be that much "cleaning" of sites needing to be done, especially when they have been empty for several hours or days. We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Motorhome.

Five nights Monday thru Friday nights. Quiet and the place did not ramp up on the weekend. Not a party campground at all. Most of our neighbors were retirees. Very quiet and overall a very nice park (for the money!). Like most Cal State Parks, maintenance to the facility seemed non-existent. Overgrown weeds and dead plants all over. Restrooms clean, but no evidence of any ongoing maintenance and in a few years this relatively new park will likely look like the rest of them. We would certainly stay here again and camped in a trailer. We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a great beach campground, although a bit pricey. Some sites are more level than others, and our site, #11 was level, but way over grown with shrubs. I trimmed some back a bit to get the slides out on the rig. I will stay here again. We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a wonderful State Park campground. A beautiful view of the ocean from every site, an asphalt pad to park on, and electric and water available in the hook up spots. There is a dump station on site. The sites at the south end of the park are on more of a slope, so bring blocks for leveling. The park is terraced in rows. The upper rows are hook ups and the lower rows are dry camp. The 38' vehicle length limit is enforced. Even though the sites are back in, the rangers don't mind if you head your motor home in to get the view of the ocean from your front window. Since the sites are just electric and water, it is easy to run the utilities under your rig to the hook up pedestal. I will stay here again. This was our 2nd visit to this park which has outstanding views of the ocean from most sites. It is a steep but short walk or bike ride to the day use beach area, but you can also just drive down there with ample parking. There are shade ramadas and tables for picnics along with showers and restrooms in the day use area. You can hear the waves crashing on the beach at night from the campground which is very relaxing, along with the coyotes in the canyon singing their lonely hearts out. It is a close drive to everything. We camped at Crystal Cove State Park - Moro Campground in a Travel Trailer.
