We visited as TT members and were scheduled for 2 nights but left the same day we arrived. The only thing we were told when we checked in 5 times was if we chose a 50 amp site there is a $5 a night fee. Nothing else. There are no activities. No AT&T reception. No one under 18 allowed in the rec room (my son is 16 and was locked out because I wasn't with him). No wifi, except within 8-10 feet of rec room. This is NOT a resort. We chose the 50 amp "river view" but the only view was of other RV's. You have to walk to the river from these spots. Almost all river front spots have full timers in them. It's a half mile uphill to the dog park and pool. Everything is run down and falling apart. Our picnic table had bolts gone holding down the benches and was unusable. It felt so much like a low income trailer park that we left after the first day. They should check into getting activities planned, repairing the roads and falling apart Gazebo, offering better WIFI, and maybe cable and informing guests of whatever it is that makes this a resort because I left wondering this question. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $62.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice park, right on the American River. Like others have said, it is hilly and the roads are gravel and narrow, but it is a rustic, natural setting. We did not stay on the lower level near the river. Although those sites have a nice view, we preferred to stay in E1, which is near the top, nestled in a corner of cottonwood trees that are interwoven with wild grape vines. A very nice and quiet setting, with neighbors only on the left. We stayed for three nights and found the camp personnel friendly and helpful. Although the campground was nearly full, we didn't feel crowded, and on Monday the place really cleared out. There is good access to the river a short walk away and a nice pool area. (we did not use the pool though) The sites were clean, fairly large and level, and did not require any leveling aids. The water was good with adequate pressure. Power was clean, but with a full park in the middle of August, the voltage understandably was a little on the low side (104v-110v). We ran the fridge and water heater on propane to reduce the risk of low voltage problems to the A/C, which worked out fine. Overall, a nice stay and we would stay here again. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Okay Thousand Trails. $5.00 for 50 amp. Very hard to maneuver big rigs around corners and up and down inclines, but doable. Sites are not level, you will need blocks for gravel back-in sites with water only. There are a few sites with sewer but I believe they are for permanents. Right on the American River with a beach and swimming areas/launch sites which is great. WiFi at family center and pool. Cell service is excellent for hotspot. Visit if you enjoy river activities. Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $80.00
Overall Rating:

I would have rated this park better if it had not been so expensive. We stayed 13 nites and paid $61/nite for some nights and $64/nite for other nites. Plus $4/nite "resort" fee. Trust me this is NOT a resort. We had no sewer but since the site had 50 AMP power we were charged a nitely fee of $5.00 plus a second nitely fee of $10. So our rate was either $80/nite or $84/nite. WAY too expensive! This is a Thousand Trails park. This is an older, very rustic park situated right on the American River. . The park is built down a steep hill with various camping sections. There is a nice sized fenced in dog park at the top of the hill. Unfortunately it is quite a steep hike to get your dog to it if you are down on the river like we are. There are just a few sites that can accommodate a big rig. Our site (H18) faces the river so the views are gorgeous and the site is large. Overall the sites are a variety of sizes - tiny to large. Lanes are gravel and very very narrow. We pull a 43ft fifthwheel with an F350 dually truck and navigating to the site was not easy. Sites are all gravel and narrow with picnic table. Being down on the river, there are no trees for shade. Utilities all work well and are placed in the center of the site. Most sites do not have sewer. WIFI worked well but AT&T Cell phone and Verizon hotspot had no service at all. Road noise at our site is not a problem nor is the noise from trains or planes. We had no bugs in June. Nice pool. No onsite laundry or camp store. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at Ponderosa as Thousand Trails members and the review reflects the fact we stayed for free. The river sites are quite spectacular but have no sewer. In fact, about 90% of the sites don't offer sewer and those that do are so close and compact, it looked more like RV storage. There are two levels and the lower level near the river is by far the best. But this park seems to up charge for lots of little things. 50 amp sites are $5 a night. Want to rent a fire ring (mostly just old washer tubs), it's extra. Want the honey wagon, 25 bucks. Want a table tennis ball? Those were a quarter. However, the bathrooms and showers were very clean. We'd stay here again as TT members but I wouldn't pay to stay. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Motorhome.

As Thousand Trails courtesy card holders, we were attempting to stay at as many of their campgrounds along the west coast as we could in the fall. This was the last of the campgrounds that we stayed in that was new to us - we skipped some others because the weather was getting chillier and we wanted to get further south. It was rainy when we arrived, and the campground does not show itself well in the rain. There was really no parking area to unhook, so we were directed to the parking area for some of the Getaway cabins. The roads are in rough shape and quite hilly and curvy. We elected to take a water/electric site in section A just so we did not have to navigate the trip down the hill. There was construction going on at the bridge right near the turn in to the campground, so any signs identifying the campground as Thousand Trails were missing (so we were not initially sure we had arrived at the correct place). Getting out onto the highway heading south from the dump station area was also a challenge due to the road construction - hopefully that will be a temporary issue. On a positive note: we had ordered some items to have sent to this campground with the anticipation that we would arrive in October. Due to a loss of a wheel (!) in Oregon, our arrival was delayed by a few weeks. We kept them informed of our progress and they kept our boxes and we were able to get them when we finally arrived. The staff members with whom we dealt were all great! We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Motorhome.

As 1000Trails members, we just pay the upgrade fee to park along the river. Let's face it, this is a run down park and the potholed and crumbling roads have gotten worse over the 4 years we've visited.

So why stay? It's the river. The whitewater rushing buy makes a wonderful background noise and the view up the grassy slopes is beautiful, especially at sunset.

Most of the staff is friendly, as are the fulltimers.

Some of the turns are a bit tight, especially the right turn you need to make to go to the river front sites. But there are plenty of 40' motorhomes like ours and big 5th wheels that make it work. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Bring your own supplies as the local variety stores have limited and expensive choices.

Cafe Majhaic for fine dining- Make reservations!

Dave Moore Park is a nice place to go for 1-2 mile stroll with the dogs or kids.

Gold Hill Winery - Pack a picnic lunch, buy a nice wine from them, and sit out on their deck that overlooks the vineyard and beyond.

The staff is very friendly, the activities for the kids are great, the pool is very well kept.

The river is close to the campsites. The bathrooms are very well kept on weekdays, but are trashed on weekends.

There was a (female) staff member that was hateful and very rude to multiple campers. Other than her, we had a great stay and will be going back. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Have camped here even before Thousand Trail took over. Do not travel to this park from I-80 Auburn via rt 49, as it is super difficult to navigate.

The roads that are ''paved" in the park are in very bad shape with lots of pot holes. There has been some improvement in the gravel sections.

There are a variety of sites available: river front, semi-wooded field, up on a small hill.

There is a reasonably nice restaurant that has opened at the gate to the park and a short walk across the road leads to others. The park has a small pool and a small beach along the river.

This park has a serious problem with electric shortages. Have lost an a/c due to low amps and the park strongly suggests running your 'frig on gas. Many sites have no power at all, a situation I have not seen improve in 6+ years. We had a sewer hookup, and there is a dump station behind the restaurant or $25. honey wagon by appt.

Seems ELS/Thousand Trails does not return any of one's membership fees for upkeep and relies on "long -term" site rentals, a disturbing trend for the last few years. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

In late summer & autumn an area called Apple Hill (apprx 18 miles away), is a fun place to bring the family. Apples & other fruits are harvested. Arts & crafts, pies & jams are for sale. Placerville has antique shops and a great hardware store downtown.

There are wineries not far from the park.

Explore Coloma and the State park where gold was discovered.

White water rafting companies also offer trips down the American River. It is fun to watch the rafts pass by from the park's shore.

This is a great little park right on the River. The sites in the D section had plenty of room to back up. Our only concern is that the town of Lotus is in a very steep valley. There is no way to get into or out of it except by winding, twisty, up and down roads -some with very little turning radius. There are big rigs in here, but we wonder how they got in and how they will get out! Friendly staff, mostly gravel roads. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

The roads are somewhat improved compared to prior reviews. The main road is good, some roads are gravel, and some are still in need of repair. Roads are somewhat pot-holed and narrow, but we had no issues navigating to our spot.

We like the riverview sites, even though they don't have sewer hook-ups. The sites are along the American river and popular for rafting. A honey wagon is available for $25.

At check in you will need to show registration and proof of insurance. This is a popular spot and the river sites were nearly full in March.

River view spots are close, but we were able to fully extend slides and awning with a little breathing room. It was helpful that park staff allowed us to park our truck in a 'common' area close by. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Motorhome.

A Thousand Trails campground. We stayed as a guest. Somewhat remote site with a few small towns nearby. Used mostly in the summer for white-water rafting. Next to a small river, but too cold to use in November. We were here in late November and it got down to the 24 at night, so we had to disconnect our water hoses before going to bed at night. Staff was extremely nice upon arrival and willing to help with anything. They even filled our propane tanks on Thanksgiving day. Paved access roads were the worst I've ever seen. More pot holes that a Belgium waffle. It appears like there are two lanes to check-in, but they are so narrow that when a few campers are checking in, you have to wait for them to finish before you can drive your car back to your campsite. Same with driving out the exit. It's only wide enough for one vehicle to exit, but they have the dump station right in the middle of the exit gate, so when you try to drive out, you may have to wait for 2-3 campers leaving the campground and dumping their tanks. Extremely poor planning for the entry & exit of this campground. The very friendly staff is the only reason I rated this a 3. We would not stay here again without the paved roads being fixed and after they widen the entry/exit lanes. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

TTN Park, rate shown for 50A. 15 full hook-up sites, all full when we arrived. Very difficult park to navigate. Very steep hill with a sharp turn to reach the sites near the South Fork of the American River. Our site, H22, was a back-in, W/E, facing the river. Restrooms & showers were closed when we arrived and we were told they would be re-opened in "a couple hours." Wi-Fi available at the lodge and some places in the CG if you are lucky. The men's restroom at the Lodge was plugged and flooded, then closed for the last three days. Where the roads were paved the surface is crumbling and very rough, the remainder are gravel. Oak trees are shedding their fruit and when the wind blows sounds like a huge hail storm. The staff was friendly and helpful when we checked in. There is no HDTV available here, some sites satellite but mostly the trees interfere. It rained the day we arrived and the sites along the river were pretty muddy. We checked in on Saturday and decided to cut our visit here short and pulled out Wednesday. The closed restroom/shower problem in H was not yet repaired when we left. The CG dump station is at the exit from the park. We probably would return if in the area in the future. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

The ONLY route to approach the CG is via US50, Shingle Springs and road to Lotus. Though somewhat winding it is much easier and less damaging than US49. Shopping and dining off US50 and Chevron honors Safeway Club Cards.

Came in on Hwy. 49 from I80. Never do that again, will use Hwy. 50 to Shingle Springs road next time. Very rough and narrow roads with a lot of dust. Found a full hook up in section G. very close to neighbor on one side but had enough room on the other to park the car. Sat. TV no problem at our site but many of the other sites had to use portable dish. Very hot and dusty but cool at night. Clean restrooms and showers. Walked the campground with our cat and had no problems, everyone had pets on a leash. Very crowded on weekends. Staff very nice and friendly as we're our fellow campers. One even gave us several peaches. Did most of our shopping in Placerville but on the last day found a very good grocery store in Cool. Easier drive and excellent selection with competitive prices. Would stay here again, but would pick spring or fall. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Motorhome.
