It really comes down to what you are looking for. If you want a place with a beach close by and do not have a dog or a need for anything else, this is a good spot. If you don't mind dirt and have kids, this is a great spot. If however, you like to adventure out, go to dinner maybe explore towns, or if you travel with your dog and want to leave the campground, not such a great spot. We had a site with very little outdoor area, and none in the sun (which is nice to have in a coastal area), with our neighbors hook-ups were right next to our chairs. Other areas around us looked so much more appealing! We asked to move as we were here for 4 nights and watching others come and go, but they didn't feel they could do that. We camped at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Lighthouse is close by and there are really nice hiking trails all around (watch for dog signs as many do not allow). You cannot take your dog to Manchester Beach so will have to drive to a beach if you want to take your dog. The office will provide you with a list of places to go and suggestions. It seemed like everyone was traveling with at least one dog and the campground is set up nicely for your pet.

This is a typical KOA, oriented towards family camping. Since this was towards the end of summer, there were lots of families, with lots of kids, and way too many dogs. Off season this would be much nicer. The spaces are large and reasonably level, with lots of trees. Staff keeps the place clean. Close to the beach. We camped at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

First: we're not KOA Club-members, so no discount of any sort. We chose this campground based on proximity to Point Arena, and the decent rating. We haven't used a KOA park since 2003, due to the "club-membership" aspect. We had forgotten the "activities" scheduled for both kids and adults, and the fact that many KOA camps are intended to be the actual destination, not a temporary stop-along-the-way.

The location of this park is outstanding: embedded within a grove of those large, gnarly pines typical of the windy California coastline, and it's less than a half-mile walk to the accessible beach (just past Manchester Beach State Park campground, for which our rig was too large). Some sites have full hook-ups, we had electric/water/cable (stable voltage/good pressure), some are dry, there is a plethora of tent sites, and better than a dozen "Kamping Kabins" (and this place was nearly full). Pool, showers/restrooms (we didn't use), 4 washers (one being used by staff to wash mop-heads), and 2 out of 5 dryers working. Tables and fire-rings at most sites, that we saw, and sites fairly close to level, although they were dirt (no gravel).

They also have a "common-area" kitchen and gathering-place: which is a nice touch, if you're with a large group. The office staff was very nice and helpful, and check-in was very easy. As with "destination" parks, the evenings were noisy, overall, however "most" of the noise subsided after 22:00 (per "rules").

The park is "challenging" for larger rigs, but should not be an issue for anyone with a few thousand miles experience. Use of the dump-station, with TOAD attached, is not advised. Hook up when you get out in front of the office, or closer to the entrance.

All-in-all, we enjoyed our stay: visits to "old haunts" in the area, and would use this park again (when compared to others we passed in the vicinity). We camped at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the Point Arena Light-Station Museum. Groceries and gas in Gualala (2 stores), or if you're coming from the north, stock up and gas-up in Fort Bragg. (You'll not get your rig into the only station in Point-Arena. It's akin to "Wally's" back in Mayberry.)

CA-1 is "twisties" and up to 15% grades (switch-backs are sometimes more), and routes between CA-1 and US-101 are little more than paved-over logging roads. Make sure your equipment, especially brakes, are in top shape.

Stayed here in a 50A pull through FHU. Nice site among trees, good utilities. Staff constantly cleaning up, a neat facility.

We found no Verizon data coverage) not even with booster), no AT&T except could get barely useable phone or data with cellphone booster most of the time. Wifi was one of those use for 100mb or one hour, then cut off for four; speed ok but not fast. Wearing after a few days. We camped at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA in a Motorhome.

We stayed at the KOA Manchester Beach after dry camping two nights at Stillwater Cove SP (wonderful spot) so wanted hookups and services for a few days. Very friendly and helpful staff, easy checkin. They let us pick our spot; the park was virtually empty on a mid-week March day.

We enjoyed how this KOA was much more "natural" than most - grass/gravel spots with large trees around and a good amount of separation between sites. We picked one of the "premium" 50A full-hook up sites in the back, (believe it was 90 as noted below but not sure). The 30A pull throughs looked a little close together by comparison but were nice being in the trees.

They went above and beyond with service; both evenings we stopped at the office for firewood which they quickly delivered to our site in their golf cart.

Did not use the facilities/showers/pool/kitchen, but enjoyed a fire each night and watching the stars and moon among the tree branches. We camped at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA in a Motorhome.

This is a pretty nice campground for a KOA. It's spacious, has a nice big dog run, various levels of service to choose from ranging from tent only sites to FHU's. It's overpriced IMHO like most KOA's (obviously, I don't have a high opinion of KOA's), but at least it's nice. There are a bunch of "amenities" like bocce, horseshoes, volleyball, playgrounds, pool & hot tub etc. Probably a pretty nice place for families to camp...lots for the kids to do. There is a trail to the beach but we didn't take it. We were here on a Monday night in June and there were tons of spaces available. Price includes $3 extra for the little dog. What's with California charging extra everywhere for the dogs? We camped at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA in a Truck Camper.

This is well maintained clean quiet park that is located well away from any city life or sounds. The spaces in the full hookup area are nice size but all the ground is natural dirt, sod, pine needles etc. lots of massive trees for shade. The WiFi is not so good and even my Verizon only gets one or two bars. The TV has very limited channels but there is a nice big screen TV in the outdoor common area. The only thing that will keep me from coming back to this area is that dogs are not allowed on the dunes or beaches. We camped at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Only 1 of 3 showers had water running in them, and Space 13 was a water hole, I picked it at night and couldn't see the spot. They did bring a pallet over to dry the step up. Maybe 13 channels, and the worse was no ATT cell (not their fault), but you get 1 hour of WiFi and or "some amount" of data. That lasted me maybe 10 mins. but you can pay for more.... It's a nice park and I'm sure when it's tourist season (not this week) it will be better here. We camped at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA in a Tent Trailer.

First time visit to this KOA to take part in their Thangiving celebration. Our site was nice and spacious. Sites was grass and fairly level. Cable tv is limited but they had a big tv by community fire pit to watch football games. Overall a nice KOA. Now what they do for the holiday is amazing. A big turkey dinner for the guest. They provide the turkeys and guests provide the side dishes. Lots of activities for kids including Santa arriving the next day. A lot of people make this weekend a traditon. A unique, enjoyable trip. Really awesome dog park. Nice place but when we were there no one seemed to follow the leash requirement and the staff ignored it. The staff in the office was ok not very nice but pleasant enough. There was a wedding going on the Sunday we were there and it was LOUD. NO consideration for the campers. We camped at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This is a nice campground along Hwy 1. Restrooms and showers were clean, and new ones being added. Lots of room in the pull-thru sites. Lots of trees. We brought our own firewood or you can purchase there (however there's a place next door which sells it cheaper). I was able to get a Verizon signal on my phone occasionally. Good hiking trail to the ocean. Lots for families to do, ice cream, karaoke, movies or something going on every night. You can be as social as you want to be. I would return. Enjoyed this campground a lot. The dog park is phenomenal... extraordinarily big and well kept! The staff is very nice with great senses of humor. Very attentive and just good people! Drawbacks... My Verizon wireless card couldn't get a signal so I had to use the paid Wi-Fi. Wireless costs $6/day and it is slow! Getting there can be a challenge. Admittedly, we have a BIG motorhome and taking Hwy 128 from Cloverdale to Hwy 1 was very windy and then Hwy 1 narrows to the point that you will find yourself taking a bit of the opposing lane when making turns to the right. It definitely keeps you on your toes. Once you're there, you'll enjoy yourselves. Don't miss the Point Arena Lighthouse... it's great! We camped at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA in a Motorhome.

If you have kids, this would be the place for you. They have a pool, bikes, etc. If you want quiet, this isn't the best park as it's screaming kid-ville. Nice park if you don't mind lots of activity. Maybe quieter on a non-holiday week. We camped at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA in a Motorhome.
