Wow, what a great find! We were looking for a nice RV park near Monterey, and on-line this one looked the best. It was an excellent choice. Very pretty and clean, lots of trees, all sites had picnic tables, patios and fire pits. Beach access via a long trail; adjacent unfenced dog area. Office staff was delightful. Only two concerns here: First, the park is very noisy as it's located right up against Highway 101. Second, the sites are not very deep; our car had to be parked next to our motor home instead of in front or behind. This took up a lot of the outdoor living space. All of the sites were the same configuration; all back in, no pull through. We camped at Marina Dunes RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

15 minutes to the south to Monterey and Pacific Grove; we loved "The Old Fisherman's Grotto" on the pier, but the best was "Monterey's Fish House" just as you drive into town. 15 minutes north to Moss Landing, charming little town - "Phil's Fish Market" is a great place for lunch.

My campsite itself, a little small for my 30' trailer. The park is one-way and all sites are 90 degrees to the driveway. Sites on the right side have to back in "blind" and there is little room to move forward / backward to re-align. Once parked, I needed to disconnect and then park partly in the site-dividing bushes just to have room to get between my truck and trailer and open the camper door. I was originally to have a larger site across the driveway, but apparently my reservation was changed prior to arrival in favor of a large motorhome. I was rather disappointed in that decision of the management but I guess when you can pack the park whether you have groups or not... Location is this park's greatest asset. For access to the beach and the Monterey bay, this can't be beat. You are far enough away from the beach that you get full hookups and such, but close enough to walk out and enjoy the beach. There is a walking trail over the dunes that is accessible from the exit of the park. The beach area is far enough north on the bay that you can still get some surf. The park is a short drive to everything in Monterey and a little farther one can reach anything in Carmel. I stayed here as part of a camper rally. For that use, the campground is quite good. There is an outdoor patio area with umbrella tables and a grill pit. If the weather isn't great, then there is also an indoor group area with a kitchen, fireplace, sofas, and folding tables and chairs. We didn't use the restrooms, showers, or laundry facilities; but the looked very nice. Access to the campground is very easy off of highway 1, but could be tough due to traffic depending on day and time of arrival / departure. We camped at Marina Dunes RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Clean park in a good location just off Highway 101 with 60+ FHU RV sites, a few nice park model rentals and 5 tent camping sites. All sites are mostly level back-ins comprised of gravel with paver patio, picnic table, stand up grill and fire pit. They are all double wide but quite short, so we had just enough space for our 40' rig on one side and our tow dually on the other. It was very tight! Sites are all 90 degree angles and can be difficult to get in/out of, especially when other campers park in front of their rig (and partially in the road) instead of on the side. Oddly shaped turn into the park, so swing wide to avoid scraping your back tires. We stayed in site 58 on the north side of the park, which is the best side if you are in a large rig. The south side sites are smaller and are the closest to Highway 101, but you will hear traffic regardless of where your site is located. Sites 55 through 62 back up to the tenting area, so tent campers are VERY close to the back of your rig. Sites 50 through 54 are nice, as you have some green space behind you. You can request a specific site but there is no guarantee you will get it. Bathrooms were new and clean, consisting of 3 toilets and 3 showers. The park also has a nice clubhouse, small fitness room, pool table, volleyball court, playground and outside seating area. Nice laundry area with 5 washers and 6 dryers. Office area was clean and had snacks, gifts and rv supplies. Very good Verizon signal. Staff were very friendly and allowed us to check into our site at 12:15. Site was clean upon arrival. Marina Beach is 1/3 mile from the park, but the sandy access trail is very soft making it quite a hike. Rate includes Good Sam discount, taxes and fees. We enjoyed our stay but would most likely not return due to the tight sites and expensive daily rate. We camped at Marina Dunes RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Walmart Supercenter is less than a mile from the park. We ate at Salt Wood (¼ mile from the park), which is beautiful, but way overpriced. Park is close to Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row in Monterey. We drove to San Jose to see the Winchester Mystery House (an hour's drive), which was very interesting. Big Sur and the 17 mile drive through Pebble Beach are a must, but traffic is terrible so go early in the morning.

They have an amazing website which gives absolutely no mention that the RV Park is 100 feet from Hwy 101. They have a "site" map which shows the park and a small access road behind the park which leads to the pathways to the gorgeous beach (which is why we booked it). Nowhere on that map or on their website do they say anything about the park's location ON the highway. We arrive from a 5+hr drive to find an extremely noisy office and extremely noisy RV park as we were right on the highway. Motorcycles pass by and you are repeating every word you say as no one in the office can hear you. We decided to give it a try. They "placed" us in a space as close to the freeway as possible as that's where the "small" TT spaces are located. We agreed to "try" it for a night. The spaces were exceptionally small. The park roads are very narrow getting in and out. We left the next morning after a horrible night of absolutely no sleep. I give one star for an incredibly misleading website and failure to disclose the close proximity to Hwy 101. They sell ear plugs in the office. Beware of this park. We camped at Marina Dunes RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed 3 nights this last time and noticed how many "full timers" appeared to be staying here. The last couple times we noticed a couple and thought it was park management. It appears there are more now. We also noticed an uptick in the number of homeless parked in and around the immediate area. This is a great location with easy access from the highway. There is also Easy Access to the beach by walking or a drive. The shower restrooms were recently remodeled and we were told just completely in the last few weeks and look great! The restrooms, laundromat club area is kept very clean ( although their seems to be an "old" odor that permeates the club.) The sites are level which is good, however some are quite small compared to some places, our rig is small and it was still tight. The camp staff are very friendly. Yes, some sites are extremely noisy due to highway traffic but it's on a highway ... simple fix white noise or music app or a sound machine will reduce much. ( we play it through our rigs sound system and it works well) Ive been called all types of names but but full time living is allowed here and they have several. It still feels safe though it's obvious when pulling in though where cars and rigs have not moved in obviously months or longer ... I will leave it at that. So cleanliness is great in most areas.... We love it here but will be cautious with how many full time people live there and how the camp goes. Some sites are very tight. Especially if you get assigned in the circular area. Come prepared for highway noise especially on the highway side. Facilities are very clean. The office/shop has all the bare necessities and staff is willing to help where needed They also patrol frequently. ( rate I posted was without discount) We camped at Marina Dunes RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed for 10 days in our 40' Raptor 5th wheel toyhauler. While the park isn't perfect, there are many good things to say. First, every one of the staff we came into contact was friendly and helpful. Great service! The place was spotless including sites, office, laundry facilities, etc. Location is convenient to all the sites in the area. The beach is a walk away. Dog friendly: both inside the park and a dog off-leash beach is a walk away. Most of the sites are wide enough to allow parking your car or tow vehicle next to your RV. If you can't, there is parking near the office that is a short walk away. Each site includes a paver patio, picnic table, and fire ring. Utilities connections are modern and work well. Everyone was quiet. Bathroom and nearby road construction is finished.

Of course all isn't perfect (are there any that are?). No pull-thrus: everything is a 90 degree back-in. Fortunately, the central road is wider than many parks, so even getting my 40' 5th wheel in was easy enough on the first try. Life would be a LOT simpler if folks didn't park on the road in front of their site as that makes maneuvering a lot more difficult. Make sure you let them know the size of your rig when you book: they know what you can fit into and what you can't.

There is some noise from the freeway, but we found it more like white noise that you got used to. Ask for a spot on the west side away from the freeway and it will be better. While not unique to this park, we are always amazed at the folks who allow their dogs to wander the park off-leash and that happened here. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and will likely return. We camped at Marina Dunes RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We found the staff to be VERY helpful and the park was VERY clean. Sites were not cramped and at all. The WIFI was best we have experienced at any park. Close to beach a bit of a hike over long sand dune but beautiful. Dog friendly which is a plus for us. I would give this a 10 except for the freeway can be noisy. We will return. Tight backing in to site with 35' trailer. I had to ask the person across from us to move his truck so I could maneuver in to the site. Tight sideways fit for my F150 at font of site, but did fit The site was great with wood chips surrounding the back end of the site; great place for our dog to relieve herself. Not too far north of Monterrey and Aquarium - 15 min drive. Near Highway, but wasn't noisy. Long walk to the beach. We camped at Marina Dunes RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park is over priced, but it is the only game in town besides the MoCo Fairgrounds. The sites are small and narrow. Some are adjacent to the freeway. Very noisy. Lots of sewer odor throughout the park. We inadvertently logged on to the park wi-fi and were immediately hacked. We normally use our hot spot and didn't know we were on the wi-fi. I told the office clerk about this (just an FYI) and was lectured about wi-fi security. She could not care less. Real attitude. Will not stay here again. We arrived 30 minutes before check in. As we walked up to the counter, the first words we heard were, "Well, you know you are 30 minutes early.". No "welcome to our campground - let's see if your site is ready" nothing polite. Then we find that we were assigned a camp site right next to the highway. Note that most of the camp sites are right next to the highway and are very loud. We specifically asked for a non highway site when we reserved the spot 6 weeks prior and were ignored. Note that the bathrooms were closed for remodeling and that temporary bathrooms were being used. We will not be back. We do not like to be ignored or treated rudely. Campground is right across the street from the dunes, which are very nice. We have not found an excellent camp ground near Monterey. Most of them have major trade offs. Issues with roads, aesthetics, facilities, etc.

Check in was friendly. Sites are extremely tight, and all are at 90°. I had to move my TV to allow the Class A arriving across from us room to maneuver. Be prepared. Park is fully paved, with gravel sites. Facility is undergoing reno for the bathrooms; porta-potties and showers were available for the tent campers. Unfortunately, the daily Toilet Service Truck was accompanied by the lingering odor of waste smell as it did its thing. Traffic noise from the freeway behind the park was constant. Our site was on the far side, else it would have been pretty loud. As others have said, the construction on the road outside starts early in the day, is noisy, and reduces entering/exiting traffic to one lane. Hopefully they will be done soon. The recycling bins filled to overflowing and were not emptied during our stay. One piece of advice for larger rigs: Be careful on entry: the curbs are tight, and the approach to check-in is both uphill and curved. The pet facilities are out the exit and feature a long walking area on the empty dunes, as well as a dog beach area (the 1/2 mile walk over the dunes to the water is longer than it looks, both uphill and downhill, and has soft sand all along the path.). WiFi was fast and strong with no issues. Park had acceptable SD free cable TV which also worked well. We camped at Marina Dunes RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Looking for a park meant for longer stays or just over night, with a great location near Monterey and Carmel by the Sea and just a few hundred yards from the beach, this place should meet your needs. There are no pull thru sites, all back in, but most have plenty of room. The sites are private with easy hook ups. It is about 1/3rd of a mile to the ocean with a great walk along the dunes which is very dog friendly so they can run off leash. The office staff is helpful and friendly which makes for an easy check in. The showers are under construction and running past the expected completion date but should be open in a few days. They have temporary showers and portable toilets on site mean time. The TV/game room is a very nice place to relax. Laundry facility is priced very reasonable. The road noise is there around the clock but should be expected if you select a campground next to the freeway. Great service is getting harder and harder to find in RV parks and is very much appreciated when you find it. We have plans to return and look forward to it. While there are many good things about this park, it was disappointing to book months in advance and arrive to discover no bathrooms, only dirty porta-potties and a trailer with showers for $74 per night. This was not caused by an understandable emergency situation, but was due to planned construction. Emailed notification and a token rate reduction to acknowledge this fact would have gone a long way toward making me like this park a lot better. It is well-located for a visit to Monterey via Highway 1, a main artery right behind the campground. However road noise is constant 24 hours a day for all sites. Throughout our visit, the other parallel road just a few feet behind our site, had road construction underway, with truck back-up beeping starting about 7:15 a.m. Finally, all the campsites seem to carry the same high price, yet some are far bigger than others. Our site down the hill was an extremely tight fit for a smallish RV with a small car parked next to it, and we watched others struggle for a half hour or more to back in trailers. The construction will end in a few weeks for future visitors, but all in all, my experience was not what its website promised as "a gem in every sense of the word."
