We received fresh baked cookies as we registered. The lady at the desk had a big smile for me as I registered. Her husband backed us into our site and he had dog cookies for my dogs. I love being able to walk everywhere including a lovely dog beach and dog friendly restaurant. I wish the WIFi was better. Spot 45 is large. You can hear road noise in the park. Some spots are close to each other. We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Dog beach is behind Phil's Fish Market. We saw whales frolicking there. The Whole Enchilada is wonderful. Whale watching cruises leave from the marina right next door. Also you can get fresh fish at the marina next door on Betina's Boat.

Camp hosts are very pleasant. A staff member was especially helpful in guiding me to back in. Plus he asked about slide out widths so I could maximize space orientation on the patio. Very clean and quiet. Walking distance to very nice casual restaurants with excellent food. We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Fifth Wheel.

Small park but that's OK. Get a reservation. Paved pads, good hook ups, with small grass area in rear. Park spots have grown over the years so rear ends are close(r) than we remember from years ago. Turns are tight bur absolutely fine and easy to deal with. It's a very clean park. Toad parking is limited so when reserving make sure you make a notation of such and they will do what they can to put you in a space big enough. Extra parking is right next door in the marina parking which is $15 per 24 hours. Could get expensive! We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Motorhome.

Phil's Seafood. Can eat there or buy fresh fish. Very busy place, very limited parking, very limited! The Whole Enchilada also good. Another is The Haught Enchilada. Did not get there. Monterey is 18 miles (30 min) and Carmel just a bit further. Lots to do. Like Artichokes? It's the place to get them for sure. Castroville is less than two miles away.

Moss Landing is a little tourist area in the center of Monterey Bay. It's a short drive to Monterey and Carmel. This small compact KOA is next door to the marina. Parking your tow vehicle or toad can be an issue. This issue can make navigating the one loop thru the campground problematic. Road noise is an issue until the restaurants and the marina businesses close for the day. Exiting the campground is risky due to the curve in the road. Many restaurants within walking distance. We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed for only 5 nights and had bought a KOA membership to save the 10%. The campground was well-kept, the sites were level, we had a picnic table, it was easy to hook-up to utilities and it was convenient to all we wanted to see. The sites are asphalt. The sites were a bit close but separated by bushes. We were at the far end of the campground so we had no wi-fi. It was a nice mix of 55+ and families. The town of Moss Landing was small but fun to walk through. Nice restaurants also. We chose this campground because it was halfway between Monterey and Santa Cruz. We also went to Felton to see the covered bridge. We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Phil's seafood restaurant was always crowded and the food was good. You can also buy fresh seafood there. We enjoyed the Shakespeare Museum (we certainly didn't expect this), the marvelous art galleries and the owl cam at the Haute Enchilada Restaurant. Nice trail on the town side of the spit or you can walk the beach.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The park was clean and within walking distance of the beach and restaurants. They do charge $85 on the weekends. It is convenient to Monterey, etc. We had site #1 so did not have another rig to look at when we used the patio. Parked the tow car at an angle in front of the rig. We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The biggest benefit of this park is that it is centrally located to the coastal areas of Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel, and the big Sur area. While not next door to any of these locations it probably is the most centrally located campground to them. The park is easy to find and the roads to and from are OK, but take it easy on Moss Landing Road it has quite a few potholes. It is also a little difficult getting out to Highway 1 if you are headed south on Moss Landing Road due to heavy traffic on 1 and no traffic light. The entrance can be congested if more than two rigs arrive at the same time. The park itself is nicely maintained but the asphalt internal roads are narrow and the sites are very close to your neighbors. Our picnic table was very close to our neighbors hookups. What little space that there is, however, is nicely maintained grass. You are escorted to your site so that helps alleviate any potential problems caused by the narrow roads. All hookups worked well but the WIFI was only so so. The cable TV offered 16 channels. The pad was concrete and level. We did not use the restrooms and any of the amenities offered like community fire pit. Overall I would use this park again but I would look a little closer at other alternatives. We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Had a great evening at Phil's Fish Market just down the street and walkable. Phil's has decent food but the true highlight was the live band which was great. They play there several nights during the week so check it out. Also it is fun to watch a colony of sea lions at the end of Sandholt Rd. by the inlet.

Normally I do not take the time to report issues however I felt this one needed to be forwarded to the owners of the resort We are not looking for a discount or a free stay we simply want to advise you of unpleasant circumstances that occurred upon arrival at the KOA at moss Landing We confirmed our reservation for October 15-18 on the basis that I and our traveling partner (2sites) had served in the navy (myself) and the army reserves (my friend) and had been offered and accepted a military discount even though we had not been active for almost 30 years There were two issues upon arrival at the campground the first was we were denied the military discount on the basis that we could not produce ID I explained that we've been out of the service for 30 years but the park manager insisted that we must have an ID It became unpleasant and upset because we were promised the military discount when we made the reservation and there was no mention of ID necessary at that time I simply let the discount go and proceeded to my site as we had just completed an eight hour trip to the mountains and were quite tired After sitting up at the campsite the park manager came over and stated that I needed to move my Trailer as the stabilizer jacks were not on the cement put on the grass. I stated that was nothing in the campground rules on that to which Park mgr replied "its common sense" The only reason the camper was back that far was to clear the slide out from the electric post and prevent damage however he insisted and I ended up re-hooking up my camper and moving up and over as he requested After resetting the camper I noticed that the rig right behind me also had stabilizer jacks on the grass when I advised this to Larry he proceeded to tell me that " this was a private campground and they could refuse service to anyone" at this point I was beyond angry and did call him an **** We stayed at the campsite for three days without further incident We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed a week and visited family in the area. Friendly and conscientious staff, offered baked cookies upon arrival! Escorted us to our site. Hummingbirds galore! 1 block to beach and several great eating establishments. Marina and small park right next to the park. Community fire pit almost nightly. Narrow sites but we moved the table in front of our MH. Recycling! We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Motorhome.

Whale watching cruises, Phil's Fish Market, Monterey Fisherman's Wharf-Clam Chowder sampling, Capitola Pizza My Heart, Santa Cruz Mountains Redwoods, Hwy 1 towards Big Sur (bridge still out). Walk to the end of Sandholt Rd to view the hundreds of seal lions, Salinas River State Park for beach walks and sunsets. Moss Landing Rd intersection at HW1 was always extremely busy and dangerous!

We visit this KOA often because of the friendly staff, 1 block to beach and several eating establishments. There is a marina right next to the park and you can catch your boat to the whale watching, etc. right there! If you didn't want to drive anywhere this is the place to stay. There are only 46 spots all full hookup, clean well kept so you need to book early for a guaranteed stay. We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Kayaking with the otters, and the Jetty has lots of wildlife. Castroville has a Mexican pastry shop "Guadalajara Panaderia to die for on Preston Street! People drive crazy all around there so biking and walking are a bit scary off the trails. There is a quaint and friendly church on Dolan Road call Harbor Chapel on Sundays. The Country Café,Sea Harvest, Phil's and the Haute Enchilada (wonderful Ginger bread pudding for dessert) are our favorites for food.

Rate reflects Good Sam discount - beware this cg raises its rate from Thurs to Sun. I think if you come in before Thurs they should charge you just one rate. Small, bare bones, tight park. Very concerned with total lack of security. Right across from our site (16) was the laundry building & a latch gate shared with the marina next door. Easy access to cg for transients roaming around. All sites are backins - super close to neighbors. Had to park tow car at a diagonal in front of coach to fit in site. Interior roads are asphalt & pads concrete with picnic table. Wifi pretty much nonexistent. Only two restroom/shower combo rooms. While they were clean, they are in need of updating (linoleum floors, fiberglass shower inserts, plaster walls). There were 2 big rubber mats on floor & rooms were spacious. Staff was friendly & professional- needed to adjust my dates & they were accommodating. There are not many parks in the Monterey area & this one is about 30 -33 min from Monterey which has much to offer. If we did return, we would make sure we were in the last row of the park. We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Motorhome.

A rather nice, very small & cramped KOA. Well maintained, but one of the most important amenities is sorely lacking: the Wi-Fi ranges from abysmally slow to non-existent.

At its fastest, speedtest.com tells us that the download speed is 0.6 mb/second, and the upload speed is 0.1 mb/second. If you need Wi-Fi, this is NOT the place for you. It took about 24hours, but by the second day we were here, we were over-run with ants. Take appropriate measures to prevent this! We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Motorhome.

Moss Landing, CA is a delightful fishing community with a couple of very good restaurants. Well worth a visit. But RVers dependent on the Internet cannot depend on the Wi-Fi here to be adequate or even connectable.

Walk to dog friendly beaches that go to harbor with many birds and the otters, although to see them best to drive short distance to Moss Landing State Beach. Great restaurants and town across the street is the Whole Enchilada Restaurant and Market Place, at the harbor is Phil's fish Market Restaurant, and breakfast you cannot beat the Moss Landing Cafe. Cool grave yard to visit.

There are only a few places to stay when visiting in a RV in the Monterey/Santa Cruz area. We found Moss Landing a great halfway point and love this KOA. You are protected by fencing which is nice. Not many young children running around and more of a mature group which is nice for a more quiet trip. This park does not have much for amenities but does have laundry room, community fire pit and nice green lawn!! You can hear the sea lions and seagulls, which I love. The staff is amazing! Extremely accommodating and friendly. Sites are skinny but if you don't spend a major amount of time outside you are good. Pads are concrete and level. Small patio for picnic table and that is about it. Full hook up offering both 30/50. Cable TV and the satellite availability is great. Wireless is spotty. We frequent this place twice a year. Highly recommend. We camped at Moss Landing KOA Express in a Travel Trailer.
