Busy weekend, the roads coming in and the access roads are all very narrow, with camp kids spilling out into the street. Most of the sites seemed reasonably level. We camped at Scotts Flat Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Seems to be a fishing lake, although we did not fish here, it was also a good home base for traveling around the area, Grass Valley is not far away. The Yuba River lies to the north, a very nice little river with good old fashioned swimming holes here and there. There also gold in them thar hills.

Overall Rating:

Easy in, easy out. All sites in both gates are beautiful. On or off season, this is a beautiful peaceful place to stay. People in town and at the lake are warm, helpful and friendly. From reservations, the gate, marina, store and maintenance our stay was made wonderful because of them. The sunrise and sunset is unmatched because of the Osprey flying out over catching their meals. We camped at Scotts Flat Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Nevada City and Grass Valley have an excellent variety of local wines and micro breweries. Also shopping in both places is a delight. Go up in the winter for Victorian Christmas and Cornish Christmas festivals. Both towns have buildings from the 1800's. Amazing place! The grocery store S.P.D. has wonderful local food and good prices.

Overall Rating:

We camped here twice, the first time in mid-May 2015 and again in mid-July 2015. The first time we stayed in Camp (or gate) 2; the site we stayed in was fairly roomy, level and easy to back into. The second time we stayed in Camp 1 in the "group camp site" ( mainly because we made our reservation late and this was all they had). Many of the sites in this location were not easy to back into and the site we were assigned was very unlevel, so much so I couldn't level the trailer using all the tricks I knew. I went to the office, asked for and got an alternate site which was better. Later we walked around Camp (or gate) 1 and many of the sites were fairly unlevel, so consider this if you decide to stay here. The bathrooms are clean, there is a store in Camp 2 and a lake, which is part of the campsite. We saw lots of people who had brought boats, so if water sports are your thing, consider this site. The site is near the Empire Mines state park, the towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley, so there are plenty of things to do nearby. If you go there, I'd recommend camp 2. We camped at Scotts Flat Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Scotts Flat is part of the local irrigation district and a cross between a private campground and a National Park campground. There are no hookups available, but clean showers and a dump station. Too book sites, you have to call the reservation number, which may take a few days for a return phone call. The place is very clean, dogs are allowed, but not in the water and the lake is beautiful. Lots of trees for shade and some privacy. The sites 1-9 down by the lake get crowded and people tend to pack them full or you can stay a short walk away and not quite as busy, but more sites per bathroom. Pretty small beach area, but easy to launch your boat. Great local restaurant right at turn off for casual dining. We camped at Scotts Flat Lake Campground in a Tent Trailer.
