The site was really beautiful and the each site is spaced far enough for privacy. The pit toilet was clean. My only complaint is the wind really kicked up that night. I read the reviews about windy but that is an understatement. I think it was calm until appx 9pm as the wind started to build. By midnight I think it was blowing 30mph. Our truck shook all night. The poor tent campers packed up as soon as it was light. We camped at Hole-In-The-Wall in a Truck Camper.

Wonderful, remote area, but listen to SteveSox review! Entry road from the north is not worth the pain. Stark, open area with the beauty of the desert. Typical of a national forest site: no power, no wifi, no Verizon. Very popular -- we were lucky to get a spot on a Saturday night. We camped at Hole-In-The-Wall in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Take the Rings Loop trail. Start with ½ mile on Nature trail from campground to visitor center. Then the 1-mile rings loop trail, starting around to the left and back through the "hole in the wall". Three sets of about 5-8 rings to help you climb through steep, narrow spots; not terribly difficult for this out-of-shape 64-year old with moderately high blood pressure. Return to north end of campground by continuing ½ mile up the Barber Peak loop trail to see many varieties of cactus.

Basic national park spot with no hookups but in a cool out of the way spot. Nice mountain biking and hiking right out of the park and there was water spouts everywhere in the park to refill. We camped at Hole-In-The-Wall in a Fifth Wheel.

A word of warning. If your map program or GPS advises you to take Nipton Road off I-15 and via Cedar Canyon and Black Mountain road, DON'T! Cedar Canyon and the north part of Black Mountain Road are 16 miles of washboarded dirt road. Coming from the south on Black Mountain Road you have pavement right up to the campground entrance.

Don't be a fool. I was!

The campground has several pull-through and back-in sites large enough for big rigs. The campground loop roads are gravelled, the sites hard pack dirt. Everything is pretty much as the other reviews describe. Windy? Yep, you are in the desert. We camped at Hole-In-The-Wall in a Motorhome.

This park has lots of great level sites for big rigs. We are 40'. There is a dump station, potable water and trash containers. Mountain and mesa views are just outside you door. We found this area to be really diverse in it's plants and cacti. Coyote and rattlesnake can be found in the area. We camped at Hole-In-The-Wall in a Motorhome.

So glad we stopped here! If you like being away from the hustle and bustle this is the place. An assortment of sites both back in and pull through. No hookups, but that's part of the charm. We would love to stay here again. We camped at Hole-In-The-Wall in a Travel Trailer.

I would have given this place a 10 if it were not for the wind, although it was not constant. Wonderful hiking, lovely information center, big sites. Water was good and close to sites. Dump station was very easily accessible. Spectacular views and clear skies. Some light pollution from Vegas. We stayed there 4 nights and it never filled, yet the host said that was their busy Easter weekend. Cost was $12 but they honor Senior pass for 50% off. The nearly 20 mile road from I-40 was in very good condition. Beyond the campground it was dirt and washboard. Too rough for our rig. We camped at Hole-In-The-Wall in a Motorhome.

A beautiful spot to camp and hike but the high winds drove us out. Sustained winds were around 45 mph and may have gusted to 60. We spent two sleepless nights with the sound of the wind coming down the canyon, rocking our 32 foot Class C, and flapping the awnings on our slide-outs around. Even so, the campground is nicely laid out and many of the sites are pretty level. There were several RVs there and even some guys in a tent. Our toad caught a lot of gravel on the road in, even with the heavy duty and full-width mud flap at the rear of the RV, so take it slow. The ranger at the campground was excellent. Wish we had been there on a weekend to take advantage of the ranger programs. We camped at Hole-In-The-Wall in a Motorhome.

This park is perfect for the camper willing to travel off the beaten path in order to experience spectacular night skies, interesting geology and desert scenery. Most of the camp sites are large enough for a large trailer and tow vehicle, or a motorhome and toad. There are picnic tables and fire rings at each site. Vault toilets and hand pump water are available not too distant from each camp site. This is a great place for family camping. We enjoyed watching a scout troop during our stay. We camped at Hole-In-The-Wall in a Motorhome.

We only stayed one night but the campground was quiet and all the sites were level. The bathrooms were clean. We hiked in the area and thought it was just wonderful. Would be great to stay longer next time. We camped at Hole-In-The-Wall in a Tent.
