Overall Rating:

Guajome is a very pleasant regional park with lakes, riparian vegetation, and compacted dirt walking trails all around. It's very popular and difficult to get a spot any weekend without reservations far in advance. Even though it's 9+ miles from the beach, it's much less expensive than the coastal campgrounds. Larger rigs will want to stick to the lower sites. With tall trees nearby don't count on every site getting a satellite signal. Our 50 amp service worked fine in two different sites. There's a sand volleyball court and a new but odd pickleball court - the concrete pad only goes as far as the outside lines, so you are in sand when you go beyond to serve, etc; therefore it's good for practice only unless they expand it. My favorite aspect of the park is accessibility to the San Luis Rey River Trail that goes ~9 miles to beach (see tips section). The only negatives besides difficulty to get sites on weekends & too few sites for larger rigs, are the explosion noises from nearby Camp Pendleton, and Highway 76 which is frequently gridlocked. We also got bitten up by mosquitos during an evening out at the picnic table. We camped at Guajome County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Dirt paths lead under Hwy 76 to the Santa Fe Rd trailhead of the paved San Luis Rey River Trail that runs to the beach in Oceanside in about 9.5 miles from your site. After getting to the coast there are lots of options (as described in enCYCLEpedia Southern California). The ocean breeze typically makes the return trip easier. You can also cycle to the San Luis Rey Mission, halfway down. Also, an active welcoming pickleball group is at nearby Melba Bishop Park.

We stayed here while in town for our Niece's wedding. This is a great location centrally located between Orange county and San Diego. The parks electrical infrastructure underwent a major upgrade in the early spring of 2018. Many sites now have 50 amps. :-) The sites are paved, and there are a lot of great places to walk around in this park to explore including a cute little lake. The sites have electric and water, but no sewer hookups, but there is a dump station here in the park. They do not have breed restrictions for dogs as long as the dogs and their owners are well behaved! :-) The bathroom and shower areas are very well maintained. The staff is hard working and friendly. We would definitely come here again, but because we have a 40 foot motorhome and a toad, we would probably pick a different site. Be aware some sites will have a side space to park your tow vehicle and others will not. Site number 3 is just big enough for our 40 foot motorhome and that is all. We camped at Guajome County Park in a Motorhome.

County park with mature trees, green space and great biking trails. Undergoing construction, so half the spaces recently have been off-line. The "management" is a bit heavy-handed, and with the exception of the young man who drove thru the park...not friendly by any definition. Even when the park was almost totally vacant (including our site), strict adherence to the 2pm check-in means if you come in earlier you're being (sternly) directed to a dirt parking space...that becomes a mud pit during rain. The on-line reservation system allows you to pick the appropriate site for your rig, and our 43' did just fine. There are compound slopes on almost every site, so come prepared. Remember you are water and electric only. The one dump station can get crowded, so be patient. The highlights for us were the walking/biking trails in the Park, and connecting which can lead you all the way to Oceanside (quite a ride!). They are making some improvements (nice Pickle-ball court), and if you have a family group this place would be ideal, because of the large areas for outdoor cooking...etc. We camped at Guajome County Park in a Motorhome.

Nobody wants to get sick on their travels. However, it happens. We were so blessed to find Oceanside Urgent Care and Family Practice withing a short 10 minute drive. Clean, great rates for cash. We wish they were closer to our home town. Oceanside downtown has a great Farmer's Market on Thursdays...don't miss it. If you have a tag axle that lifts, use that feature for the sharp turns in the Park.

Great little county park just a few miles from lots of services, restaurants and stores. It's located in a slight depression so we can't see the homes that are slowly encroaching on the park. There is some traffic noise but it abates after all the commuters get home.

The asphalt sees are mostly shaded and have a patio, picnic table and fire ring. We camped at Guajome County Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Oceanside, CA is less than 10 miles away. The town has really cleaned up since we lived here and is now a great hub of North San Diego County. There are many restaurants ranging from hip to staid.

We made reservations to stay four night, but had to cancel five days before our arrival. Guajome has a 30 day cancellation policy within which no refunds are given. This is far different than private parks which either impose no charge or at most charge one night's stay when a cancellation is made a short time before arrival. We camped at Guajome County Park in a Motorhome.

A real find for this area. a few sites are suitable for 40+ foot rigs, but most are a better fit for smaller RVs.

The park covers over a hundred acres with miles of trails and a lake. All sites have water and 30 amp power. All have tables and fire rings. The camp hosts sell firewood at competitive prices. The showers are good, with plenty of hot water. We camped at Guajome County Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Vista, Oceanside and Carlsbad have every amenity and service imaginable. They are really cities, not towns.

Of special note is the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum in Vista, only a couple of miles from the park. Old town Vista has a lot to offer, too.

Julian is also worth a visit; the drive up Rt. 78 is enjoyable once you get beyond Fallbrook.

Just spent 2 nights here. Space was good for us, under some nice oak trees. Only 30 amp service and water, dump station available. Near Guajome Lake, a small fishing lake on the edge of the park. Run by San Diego County, nice hiking and bike friendly area. Sites were paved, but a 37 foot motorhome about maxes out the available space in even the largest. Price about the same as the long term winter rates in the two (small) RV parks in Oceanside. Calif State parks in the area have weekday vacancies but weekend spots are tough to get sometimes, and much more expensive. We camped at Guajome County Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Very near Mission San Luis Rey, nice undiscovered tourist spot for adults. A few miles from the beaches. Fishing in the Lake, good place for short hikes and bike rides. Lego Land is about 20 minutes away, San Diego about 50 minutes. Nice place to stay for a few days being a tourist. See County website for info.

Small, quiet county park with easy access from I-5 and I-15. Website for reservations has pictures and accurate descriptions of the 33 paved, water and 30amp electric sites. All sites have nice tables and fire pits situated a good distance from the paved site parking. All roads are paved with easy access to all sites on all three levels of park. Note: if site description states it will accommodate 35 feet, that is all it will accommodate. Dump station is on hill so holding tanks do not totally empty. If you tow your toad behind motorhome, there is no charge for extra vehicle, but if you drive it in, there is a charge for extra vehicle! Also, off the pavement at sites is sand and dirt. This is a very nice county park - on the edge of encroaching suburbia. The park has a lot of trails, some ponds and is nearby a large old adobe. We were there on a holiday weekend, and it was mostly full, but with some of the quietest campers I have ever had the privilege to camp among. We were there to go to Legoland, which was about 25 mins drive away. We camped at Guajome County Park in a Travel Trailer.

+ 7 paved sites are super wide and level front to rear and side to side; the park is quiet, nicely treed with great walking paths

- 3 no pull throughs; E & W only [but a dump]; no cable, no wi-fi, no laundry.

This is the perfect campground if you live within an hours drive. Great for a quick camping trip. If your driving from farther away, you may want to looks else where. It's in the middle of the suburbs, but when you in the campground you wouldn't know it when you look around. The only down fall is the traffic from the near by streets. When a loud car or motorcycle drives by you can hear it. There is a small lake and some trails to walk the dog on. Not serious hikes, but enough to stretch there legs. This campground is great if you like to just hang out around the camp site and enjoy the fire. We will definitely go back for short camping trips! Guajome Regional Park has been a favorite place for us to go since starting RVing about ten years ago. This is an extremely quiet campground located within very close proximity to shopping, a historic California mission, and a lovely bike path to the Pacific. This trip we noticed that a lot of the underbrush has been removed giving it a tidy appearance. The drought conditions made much of the park less lush and green as it has been in the past, however, the lake with its many birds and the trails surrounding it were still quite beautiful. One much needed change was the enhanced Verizon cellular and Verizon computer card service. We had very strong service when just a few years ago we had nearly none. To make an online reservation here costs $5.00 which is well worth it. Their website provides you the exact spots which are available on the dates you choose and also the particulars of each individual site. There is great variation in size and type of sites. There are small wooded sites suitable for tents, small trailers or class C motorhomes. In addition, there are 50’ sites with a parking pad capable of accommodating a large class A diesel. Many (but not all) of these larger sites provide a good shot to the satellite, particularly sites 29-32. There are others where it is possible to get satellite TV, but we just don’t know for certain which ones. One thing which is very important to us is adequate lighting for dog walking and Guajome has it (dogs are $1/day per dog). We noticed that there is now a rentable “cabin” overlooking the campground which rents from between $75-$100 according to the website. It looks very new with excellent access. The campground’s restrooms are not fancy, but clean and have free showers. There was also an ADA “Johnny on the Spot” available. The rangers were very pleasant. In summertime, ants can be a problem here. In May this trip, we had a few enter the coach, however one August, we had an infestation so come prepared for ant warfare. We camped at Guajome County Park in a Motorhome.

The staff was friendly and efficient. They keep the park clean and well maintained. There are a lot of places to walk, bike or even ride your horse, if you have one. Semi-urban surroundings, but the generous size of the park keeps the traffic and houses far enough away. There is convenient access to shopping and all the benefits of Oceanside. We stayed here last year at this time and only the weather was better. That's not to say that the park wasn't better as I give this park a 10 even without sewer hookups. The staff is great and the sites are always clean and the security is top notch. The best sites, IMHO, are the ones on the lower loop which would be 20-30 something. After staying at this park for two years in a row, I'd really like to see what some of the county's other camping parks are like. We camped at Guajome County Park in a Motorhome.
