This park was in a scenic area. The 2 mile private road into it was pitted with many somewhat significant potholes so drive slowly. Staff was courteous and friendly. Laundromat was decent. Only gave a 6 rating because the pool was not heated and water was so cold no one was going in, plus wifi was nonexistent. However staff did claim that high speed internet was coming soon. Lots were dirt/gravel and weeds with many biting red ants. Everyone in our four rig group received several painful bites, even using deep woods Off. Park needs to spray or something to alleviate this issue. Overall this park seemed somewhat overpriced--But it is probably the best one in the area as options for other parks was limited. We camped at Thousand Trails - San Benito Preserve in a Fifth Wheel.

The bathrooms are in disrepair, clogged sinks, and toilets. Showers not working well, bathrooms are outdated for us either hot water no cold, or hardly and water pressure. It seems the owners are not putting any funds in the camps. Over run by gophers, grounds not well kept, trash areas very smelly. Personnel are nice is the only good thing I can say. This use to be a fantastic place. We are member of 1000 trails so we did not have a cost We camped at Thousand Trails - San Benito Preserve in a Motorhome.

It seems to be hit or miss with Thousand Trails properties; you never know what it will be like. A lot of the experience depends on the site you get. Towing our 41 ft. house around a property we are not familiar with while trying to find a suitable site can be stressful. We were thankful for the employee that gave us some suggestions and ended up recommending just the right site for us. This is a large resort and there are many sites to choose from, but most are out in the open with no shade and very close to neighbors. We prefer a site with some shade and a decent amount of separation from our neighbor so we don't feel crowded. That can be hard to find, but thankfully we found a site like that here. The site we had was a 30 amp full hookup. With the shade we got along just fine with only 30 amp. They charge $5 extra per night for 50 amp. Verizon 4G worked well, but AT&T does not work at all. There was a section way in the back of the park that Verizon didn't work at all. This park is out in the middle of nowhere; there is not much to do in the area, but it's a nice place to relax if that's what you're looking for. The park will allow you to receive UPS and FedEx packages there; USPS does not deliver to the park. The employees were nice and friendly; we enjoyed our stay and would come back to this TT park if we're in the area again. We camped at Thousand Trails - San Benito Preserve in a Fifth Wheel.

The town of Hollister is only about 20-30 minutes away. Since I travel fulltime it can be hard to find a place to get my hair cut and colored on the road. I went to Attitudes and Images Salon in Hollister and saw Sandra who did a great job on my hair. We also visited Pinnacles National Park which was only about 30 minutes away.

We were here during a major fire in Big Sur so some days were quite smokey but that's just an aside. Well kept park, friendly staff, good food in cafe on weekends. They are having a problem with power so many spots are tent only. But, that being said there were plenty of full hookup sites available. Wildlife around but only saw deer. The long term sites are VERY well kept and attractive. We extended our stay here as we kind of like the quiet and seclusion. Will definitely stay here again. Campground not well maintained. Adult Lodge filthy as well as the restroom there. Family lodge not well maintained. Both pools closed for repairs as well as the hot tub. Appears they could have closed them in the winter for repairs, instead of the summer time during high usage. Picnic tables in a state of disrepair. This is the straw the broke the camel's back. We pulled out of our Thousand Trails membership because of this park . Closed or flooded filthy bathrooms. More than half the sites had faulty electrical and the "ranger" was the least helpful staff member I've ever dealt with. Tons of full timers, which is fine if it didn't look like they were making drugs in their rigs. Do yourself a favor, stay clear. We left and will never look back. Sad thing is we've waited to join since we were first married 20 years ago. My husband's dad had been a member since the 80s and it's always been a goal. Hopefully they can get it together . We spent one night here with a new Roadtrek motorhome just to get the first time out under our belt. The weather was good spring weather, and while it was busy we were able to get a site with hookups that worked. I agree with the other reviews posted about this time, except on customer service and bathrooms. We had no complaints on either. We parked next to a couple of nice full timers that were very helpful, but they did mention not to leave things unattended. (Some people that "lived" here full time apparently can't be trusted.) That's my biggest complaint with this and the Morgan Hill Thousand Trails is that there Seems to be an over abundance of transient type residents. This park is very remote. The nearest shopping is in Hollister, 12 miles and a half hour drive away. There is a small store on the property but the stock is very limited and it was closed most of the time. Make sure your fuel and refrigerator are full before you come.

It's a large park with most spaces well separated. There are a lot of trees so it's pretty. But it's badly in need of maintenance as other reviewers have said. Probably half of the electrical boxes are not working. The man who checked us in said this year's budget allows for one restroom to be remodeled but all six need to be. An electrician is supposedly coming. Stay tuned...

There are a lot of full-timers with Thousand Trails memberships who go back and forth between this campground and the one in Morgan Hill every 21 days. Not much to be done about that.

We heard that a new park manager started just before we arrived and that much of the staff here quit. Maybe that's why on Tuesday they delivered the previous Thursday's newspaper to our door. Funny or sad? You decide.

Wifi at our site was for a fee from Tengo. Verizon LTE worked well and there was adequate cell phone service as well. We camped at Thousand Trails - San Benito Preserve in a Fifth Wheel.

We were not impressed with this park. We stayed for free because our new trailer came with a complimentary Thousand Trails membership. The spaces were well-spread out but dirt and not very level. Dozens of spaces had inoperative electrical hookups, most of which were marked with little flags, but we managed to find a non-working one without a flag and had to move. The men's bathroom exhaust fan was inoperative and as a result the men's room was like a sauna. The park grounds were covered with large tree leaves, which hid hundreds of dangerous ground squirrel burrows. The hidden burrows were like booby traps for dogs and small children. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen. They had a pool and hot tub but, of course, the hot tub was closed for maintenance and it was January, way too cold for the pool. Overall, our impression was of a park that was nice twenty years ago and is on it's last legs today. It's very far out of the way and we will not go back. Used as a short term stay while working in area. Disappointed by the poorly maintained sites, lots of non working electrical, pot holes, muddy. Pool was heated 69-70 degrees - yikes. Spa was out of order the whole stay. Could be a beautiful destination. If this is what the average Thousand Trails is like I'm glad I did not sign up. Spaces were decent and wildlife was awesome. Lots of old full-time rigs in need of repair; so sad as they have probably have no where else to go. Hope they can bring this park back to life. Both the Family Lodge and the Adult Lodge were filthy. They serve meals but who would want to eat in a dirty area and fight the flies. The grounds were not maintained. Rec equipment was either missing or broken. Poor electrical service. Appears to be little or none enforcement of the park rules. It also appears they are leasing out sites to folks who have nowhere else to live, but the members have to camp next to them. We camped at Thousand Trails - San Benito Preserve in a Motorhome.

We stayed for one night on our way home after a 3 week trip thru the western states. When we arrived we were told that due to the drought conditions that the water was not safe to drink unless boiled. We were also told to look for a site with an electrical hook up that did not have a red dot or an X on it as these were without power. When we look for a site to hook up to we discovered that roughly half the sites had red dots or X's. The clubhouse was the only location in the campground that had WiFi. 50 AMP sites were $5 extra even for TT members.

We are TT members but we have yet to be at a TT campground that we would actually pay money to stay at. We got the membership when we purchased our RV. We camped at Thousand Trails - San Benito Preserve in a Motorhome.

San Benito is a large but pretty and quiet campground 20 minutes from Hollister, CA. Open with lots of mature trees, average-size dirt sites, and lots of facilities including a couple of lodges and a "country store" and cafe. Good reception for my Verizon mobile hotspot. I spent much of the time working and I got a lot done. You have to drive around and find your own site, which was a pain (even though it was the off-season) because a large number of them had no working power (red dots). I finally lost patience and grabbed a 50 amp site even though I'm 30 amp -- $5 extra per day. I had a nice, unobstructed view. It was peaceful, with lots of birdsong. I stayed here during the off-season, and although it was generally very quiet, I was surprised to see so many long-termers (one of the staff estimated 25-30). A few of those sites were a mess, loaded with furniture and storage bins, even one with a washer/dryer on a flatbed. A few others actually landscaped their sites. Most seem to be on the perimeter of the campground.

The campground is isolated in the hills, so stock up on essentials before you head up.

I would definitely stay here again, but not during high season. We camped at Thousand Trails - San Benito Preserve in a Fifth Wheel.

San Benito is by far the worst Thousand Trails campground we have been in. Very dirty, unkempt place. Roads in rough shape. Buildings not maintained. Long term or annual sites trashy looking. Restrooms not cleaned daily. Hot tub not working. We drove around and counted 189 'red dot' sites which mean broken electrical service. Another 120 have been converted into 50 Amp sites for an additional charge. Employees didn't care, which is evident from the manager on down. We were treated very rudely by two different employees when we had a problem and wanted help resolving it. The only exception to the poor attitude was the rangers who really made an effort to be helpful. Employees riding around on golf carts continually but not doing any work. The sites were very dirty and no effort had been made to remove all kinds of nasty rubbish, including used tampons and broken glass. The campground could be beautiful as it is large and in a quiet location. We will not stay here again. We camped at Thousand Trails - San Benito Preserve in a Motorhome.

The campground is in a quiet valley away from the sounds and lights of the city and around 25 miles south of the nearest town of any size. If you are looking for a quiet, away-from-it-all campground, this is it. This is a big campground with hundreds of sites and two pools. There’s a camp store and a restaurant. Just about all the sites are full hookups and there’s a fairly large 50 amp section. There are several pull-through sites, some back to back. We heard a lot about the local bobcats but didn’t see any. We did see prairie dogs, quail, deer, and lots of red-headed woodpeckers. Being away from the city we enjoyed sitting out at night counting the satellites as they glided overhead. We even spotted a few shooting stars. The electric boxes on many of the sites have big red dots on them. That means there’s no working electric at that site. Someone told me that the campground is working through those sites and fixing them. Also, there are plenty of annual residents in the campground. The campground is pretty much flat and open, but if you look around a bit you’ll note that the residents have gravitated to the sites that offer a bit of afternoon shade. Again, this is a big campground so most everyone should be able to find a suitable spot in spite of the “red dots” and the annuals. If you don’t need 50 amps and don’t mind being a bit of a distance away from the main activity center you might want to look at the area nearer the small adult pool and adult lodge. There’s a section there with some big, shady trees and you would pretty much have the adult pool to yourself. The staff is friendly and helpful. We were able to get Verizon 4G and satellite TV. It’s hard to believe that the coast with all it’s hustle and bustle (and Pacific beauty) is only 25 miles away over the mountain (and 60 miles away by highway). All in all, we like this place and hope to return. We camped at Thousand Trails - San Benito Preserve in a Fifth Wheel.
