Beautiful location and you can't beat the price. Concrete pads. We were in the spot next to the playground and it was level; looks like two others are but the other three are very uneven...two motor homes had front tires six inches or so off the ground on blocks. Drive slow, they enforce the speed limits! Food at dining halls is outstanding and retirees are allowed to eat there. No signs direct you to the campground! After getting through the gate continue down road until stop sign past gas station. Turn left. Drive to large propane tank and turn right. Continue to stop sign then turn left after lake. We camped at Petaluma Lake RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Bodega Bay nearby, where they filmed the Birds. Petaluma has nice shops and restaurants. Easy access to coast and if you want to venture a little farther out Muir Woods is great.

Easy to get to, easy to pull into HUGE spaces. A little piece of paradise only minutes away from numerous tourist destinations. It is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills, and a ton of birds and wildlife. Wifi and cell phone reception was great. Site 6 has 50 amp; all others have 30. It was inexpensive to feed the family at the dining hall, and we got to try the trainee's excellent cooking. Our site had 30 amps, but that was no problem. We loved the bike trails by the campground and biked to the dining hall and to the church. The check-in is at the MWR main hub, which also has a library with books and DVDs to check out. As far as the dump station, there is no great way to get to it. Either you have to go past the dump station and turn around in a fairly congested parking lot (would have been difficult for our rig), or you can turn left at the intersection and then back into it (which is what we did). We lost water for 2 days (unscheduled maintenance, or else they forgot to give us a heads up), but you can shower at the gym and fill up water containers there. This would have been a 10 if only there was in-site dump. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. We camped at Petaluma Lake RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Napa and San Francisco are an hour away each. Muir Woods is nearby. Base theater has movies daily. Fresh eggs for sale in the neighboring farms.

Nice little park in a quiet area west of US-101. There are 6 concrete, sloping sites; the one we got was the only one with 50A. The park would be an easy 10 if it had sewer. Our site was right next to the playground, which the boys loved. The whole lake area was full of geese, peacocks and turkeys. There are many services on base including a theater, small exchange, and a gas station where prices where 40 cents less than in Petaluma. Authorized base users (including retirees) can use the dining facility. The cable TV has nearly 200 digital channels including every HBO, Showtime, Cinemax and Starz channel! We didn't use the dump but saw it on the way out. We camped at Petaluma Lake RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We've been told the Coast Guard trains its cooks here, and you are eating their best food when you eat in the dining facility. We didn't eat here, but supposedly it's very good! 1 hour from our site to the Golden Gate Bridge on a Sunday; 1:10 to Chinatown on a Monday. Petaluma creamery has fresh-made cheese and ice cream.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds. There are only six sites with electric, water, picnic tables, and fire pits as well as a playground, volleyball court, horseshoes, and a gorgeous lake surrounded by weeping willow trees. There is tons of wildlife including geese, turkey, hawks, vultures, and raccoons. The dining facility allows everyone to eat there and serves really good food, especially the seafood buffet on Fridays at lunch. The only thing missing is a dump, but there is a dump station down the road. We will definitely stay here again. We camped at Petaluma Lake RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a tiny, 6-site RV campground located on the Coast Guard Station. It's well out into the county, surrounded by beautiful rolling hills. Excellent WiFi. The dump station is on the base, about 1/2 mile away from the campground. If there were sewer hookups in the sites, it would be a 10! We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Petaluma Lake RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Ask for the sites on the inside loop, since they're closer to the WiFi and get better reception.

Overall Rating:

This is a military only facility! This is a small very nice campground laid out in a horseshoe with six spots. The spots are so big that two 40' RVs could park in each one, plenty of parking for all those extra vehicles people like to bring along. The lake area the campground is in is very nice with a walking path around the lake. In the morning the ducks and geese fly in and in the evening they fly back out, an impressive site to see. There is only 30amp service and no sewer at the sites, there is a dump station available. For those military folks I'm sorry there is no commissary on base, but there is a new exchange that is fairly stocked with the necessities, kind of a super stocked convenience store. There is a gas station close to the campground but no diesel. This was the second time we stayed here and will stay here again when we visit the San Francisco area being only 38 miles to the city. This is not the easiest place to get to which in my opinion is one of the recommendations. We camped at Petaluma Lake RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.
