Stayed in a premium site that was beautiful. Plenty of room for RV and truck and good space between sites. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Noisy neighbors after quiet hours, loud music and yelling. Called the office, nobody there. Two nights in a row this went on, loud enough that I could hear it in my camper with the windows closed and a TV and a white noise machine on. I left a couple of messages for the office personnel, but we're leaving in the morning anyway, so I guess they won't care. I will never return to this KOA. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

This is the KOA that is the embodiment of KOA's national advertising. It's got something for everyone. It's a kids paradise. It's all about fun. There are large class A's and tents, and everything in between. Charming cottages and what looks like mini/lodges. It's a huge property. Even has its own petting zoo. Activities abound.

Site utilities are in great shape. The pool is huge. The WiFi actually worked really well for us, and there was no difficulty getting connected. Even with the crowds on the 4th of July weekend, check in was efficient and calm. It's also dog friendly with a large clean dog park. This is probably one of the highest occupancy KOAs. With so much going on, what makes it work so well is the extraordinary staff headed by its professional manager. Many RV parks run like a hockey team. This gentleman manages the park like a ballet. The staff goes over and above to enhance the campers experience. Most important, it is an owner-run KOA, and the owner is onsite, there to assist and keep things right. These are people that care.

Now keep in mind that this is a KOA with kids everywhere having a noisy great time, and that most sites are close to one another. It's also not inexpensive. But it's well organized and if you want the full KOA experience, this is the park to go to. We arrived without kids, but were captivated by their enjoyment. We found Petaluma to be an absolutely charming town, and we were close enough to San Francisco. They have organized tours of the city. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Petaluma is a charming town 3.5 miles away. Sonoma is nearby. They offer all-day San Francisco sight seeing tours. Check the park map and get a more quiet space in the higher area.

Very nice, tons of activities for kids. Nice store. Great staff. They have their own bus tour of San Fransisco, $80 but worth it, very knowable driver, so much better than tring to drive into the city myself. He also gave tips and a map for wine country, redwoods and the beach. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

This is a Class act park. If you or your children don't have a good time here, you need to head home. I've stayed in many KOA's and this park has more activities than any I've visited before. The roads are paved and the sites are concrete. The hookups are good and the wifi and cell phone worked. We will stay here anytime we're in the area. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Take the time and drive to the town of Petaluma. Out of the CG, turn left, and drive to the stop sign. (T) Turn right and drive to the traffic light. Turn right and stay on the road until you come into town. Drive around because there is a lot to see and places to eat.

This was our first trip to a KOA, and we were told this was the busiest KOA in the nation. It was clearly geared to kids and they had many attractions which appealed to youngsters (swimming pool, jumping pillow, climbing wall, petting zoo, etc. were all included). They also have a large number of cabins of various sizes. Our kids enjoyed it! The proximity to wine country and San Francisco is a huge benefit. They have a large staff, who we found to be very friendly.

The sewer drain was elevated. This made dumping a challenge, as I could not get a strong gravity flow. I had to lift the drain hose to create the gravity needed to drain. Since we stayed for six nights, this became annoying. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The campground operates a daily San Francisco tour ($85). The guide was excellent. We visited all of the major tour spots. Highly recommended! For the beer fans, Russian River Brewing is a 15-20 minute away. It's on the bucket list for most hard core beer geeks. I thought it was overrated, and I was a bit disappointed. Lagunitas Brewing is < 2 miles from the campsite. Great beer, and not overrated. Be sure to visit them.

As said in many reviews, this is a huge park - I was told it is the largest KOA in the country. Perhaps it is. Extremely busy. There are children everywhere, and people milling about everywhere. However, we did notice that at quite time, it was. Our site ( #173) was right across from the rec center, where entertainment was held almost nightly. Not an ideal quiet site. No satellite in this site, either. As stated before, the sites are not level. We were not paying attention to this as much as we should have, and we ended up dropping our 5th wheel on the truck as we unhooked, because our rig rolled back, and we had not chalked the rig wheels. Our fault, but a level site would have helped - they run slightly uphill.... There is a brand new part of the park that we wish we had known about, with large pull through sites with patios, in a very quiet part of the park. If we ever stay here again, we will pay the extra $$ and stay there. The laundry facilities have the best looking machines I have seen in any park for a long time. The tour of San Francisco that is offered through the park is excellent! Well worth the $$. So informative and entertaining! And the people at the front desk are very helpful answering questions about getting into the city, and things to do. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Proximity to San Francisco is the draw of this park. An hour gets you to the bay, if traffic is not bad. We took a ferry right to a Giants game, and the public bus that picked up about a mile from the park and took us right down to Pier 33 for an Alcatraz tour (book these way in advance!) . Pick your site from their website map, and pay the fee to reserve it for yourself - away from the cabins and the rec tent, if you want some quiet.

Mature trees give a lot of shade but caution when backing or pulling into your site. This park is large, but terraced along a hillside. Narrow driveway into the park with steep drop off so when coming into the park you will need to 'hog' the lane. You pull up to a Stop sign, register and then get an access code/armband to enter the camp area. Sharp right or left once you enter, so careful with turning. This is a manageable park to get in and out off, but you need to be aware of what you are doing!! Lots of walkers, kids and bikes/go carts. It was probably due to the time of year we were here, but the earwigs were plentiful. Don't store anything under your rig! Also, if you have kids or dogs, there was a small 'goat head' type burr that was in bloom that got on everything. Don't walk barefoot and check your shoes. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

This KOA is perfectly located for exploring San Fransisco, Bodega Bay, Dry Creek, Sonoma wine area and even Napa is doable. You could easily spend a week in the area and Petaluma is a charming town to be centered in. We were there during Mothers Day weekend and the park was completely full. There is a lot for kids to do but there is very little supervision by KOA we had kids and adults cut through our site both walking and riding a bike. Very loud at night with no quiet time and no KOA employee to be found. Driving thru the park was an adventure with bikes and very little kids cutting in front of you. We love to camp with our grandkids but this park was not safe. The park is built on a hill and the sites are not level, there was weak water pressure and hookups in an awkward location. We had the feeling the employees where over whelmed and had lost control. Only the location will bring us back. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

We were here over Mother's day weekend, plus 2 days after. Check in was a nightmare. RVs were stacked up on the entrance road, had to park and walk up the hill to check in. Long lines inside. You'd think they'd be prepared for this. From arrival to pulling into our site took about an hour. As someone else said, this place is dangerous for kids - tons of kids darting around on bikes and skateboards. We almost hit one child who cut in front of us. This is the parent's fault though. Too many adults drinking and talking loudly around the campfire, paying no attention at all. What a difference Sunday night! Very quiet and peaceful. I would never come here on a weekend again. Our site was very un-level. First half flat, the rest sharply sloping up. Most sites were nice and grassy, but ours was dirt and weeds. If most of the park is nice, why let multiple 50 amp pull through sites be in this condition? Cable TV also did not work. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

This is a huge park with lots of amenities for families; petting zoo, pool, playground, etc. Most of the families seemed to let their kids run free (which us older folks did in our neighborhoods). This is all great if you have kids you don't wish to have to entertain, but if you are adults who just want a place to relax...THIS IS NOT IT. Note the cost. Also, the staff did not make the rounds to make sure people quieted down, our neighbors were yelling between sites, playing music, and talking loudly until almost midnight. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Price is an average of 2 weekday nights $55) and two weekend nights ($75). If you have kids, this is a great place to stay. If you don't have kids this is a great place to stay Sunday through Thursday nights. Even on weekends it is a nice place to stay without kids though noisy. Sites are well spaced for a private campground and it was kept clean. Nice people at the front desk who handled a minor problem efficiently and politely. We would come back when in the area. Note the checkin line was 10 vehicles long on Friday at 6:00; expect some delays. Regarding some previous bad reviews about the activities, the website very clearly states check in and check out times. It also states very clearly the costs for additional people camping and day visitors. Don't complain because you didn't read the rules. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed at this KOA for a few days while seeing the San Francisco area. Like most campgrounds in this area it is on the expensive side. Our site 180 reasonably level. But saw a lot of people that had to board up. Verizon and T-Mobile had good signal. Camp has Wifi, but found it unusable with few people in camp. They do have sat friendly sites, but the park also has cable. Most sites have some semblance of grass. FHU good elect. and water. Sewer need 10' extension.

There is a pool and a petting zoo. The park caters to families so there is some noise and children. They have two laundries, but the once closest to use had most of the washers out of service. The camp has a play area for kids, and game room. No off leash dog park but there was enough grass to keep rover happy. It is best to unhook your toad when checking in. Park layout a bit confusing. It is a good campground to see the city and the wine country. We had site 180. Satellite friendly. If you want to reserve a certain site it is $20.00 extra. Not a bad park, but felt it could use a bit of maintenance. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.
