We had an excellent site here with full hookups. The campground host saw us come in and recommended it because of the size of our fifth wheel (32 feet). It was a perfect site, but I have to be honest, it was a "host" site that was open to the public after Labor Day. The park ranger and the campground host were very friendly and helpful. They really made you feel welcome. Now, the entrance to the campground is not great. My husband was concerned that we might have trouble with the hills and curves going out, but we made it just fine. Not sure a larger rig would have found it as easy. Also, the host said there were rattlesnakes in the area, but we didn't see any. This is a great park and we would stay here again if we were in the area. We camped at Island Park COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: July, 2012 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We had a very different experience then the other camper. It might be nicer in the cooler months. We stayed mid July and it was really hot (100+). There were some trees, but not much shade, they were pretty dead trees. We stayed in site 18 (upper) with hookups. I was very upset when we pulled up and our spot was IN the parking lot. Yes: no camp site. The street also didn't go though so not sure how a bigger trailer would go though there without doing a 20 point turn. There were a lot of cars in the parking lot, so it was hard to get to our spot. It looks like anybody can just park here and walk to the lake, so that was probably why it was crowded. I also thought the lake was closer. It was too far to walk with 2 kids, so we just drove. Our power went out a couple times also. 100+ weather in a trailer with no air isn't fun. We paid for something that wasn't working. We also had to hike up a hill to get to our table and firepit. It wasn't right next to us. When went to hook up our water, it was across the street and the hose bib wasn't threaded. You couldn't hook a standard hose to it. It looked like the other sites were like that too. We did end up filling the tanks with a lot of work. They do have a dump site on the way out which was nice. We were also told we could get cell service here. The area we stayed would get cell service here and there. It would cut out when we would make a call. This campgroup is about 45 minutes from Fresno. We will never camp at this place again. Usually we are fine with campgrounds, but this place was bad. Also, you don't have much privacy. People in tents are right next to their neighbor campsites, practically in each others sites. We stayed two nights and the people we came with left the day they got here because of no power. Their site was 26 I believe, which was right across from us. It was hard to get the trailer level because it was on such an incline. They didn't feel safe in it. If you have the time, I would say to go Shaver Lake instead. We love camping at (another park) which is less then 2 hours away. You pay only a little bit more and you get full hookups. We camped at Island Park COE in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: May, 2011 - $15.00

This is an older COE campground. We reserved site 14 with electric only. The only 3 sites with full hook ups are "walk-up" only, meaning first-come basis. We stayed in 14 for 4 days then switched to site 8 which does have full hook-ups and a beautiful view of the lake. It was very quiet and peaceful and the camp-host/kiosk attendant was very friendly. I was a little apprehensive about the steep climb getting back to the main highway but my coach pulled it fine. However, other than the 5 days of unexpected thunderstorms and rain (not their fault) they did find 5 rattle snakes in a few other campsites. So beware if you camp here. We will definitely camp here again. We camped at Island Park COE in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: August, 2010 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older Corp of Engineers campground remotely located in the foothills of the Central Sierra Nevada's, 35 miles east of Fresno. It is 65 miles from Sequoia NP and 95 miles from Yosemite NP. It is currently undergoing improvement, now offering 23 sites with electricity, 5 with full hookups. Site 32, not shown on the internet, is the best site in the park but is not reservable. Our rate was $15 per night for full hookup, using a National Park Access Pass. At present, the access road is steep with 2 sharp switchbacks. The entrance is gated and locked at 10 pm. The exit is not gated but is equipped with tire shredders to prevent entering. CAUTION: The exit also has a turn which is tight for Big Rigs and if a maneuver requires backing up to make the turn, tires could be punctured! It can be difficult to get around the park due to lack of signs or park maps. The park is secure and well kept. The Rangers are friendly and helpful. The scenery is beautiful, wildlife is interesting and the lake offers excellent fishing and boating. Both our AT&T cell phone and Verizon air card were spotty at best. We would definitely return here again. We camped at Island Park COE in a Fifth Wheel.
