Not impressed. The only pro would be that the campground is very close to the park. Cons: Absolutely no cell or Internet service. Can pay $10 per device, but WiFi will only work at the office not at your site. The visitor center was ran by one rude park ranger and a couple of unknowledgeable volunteers. It seems like a run down state park rather then a National Park. They do have a medium size pool which was nice but NO seating. The showers were filthy and was .50 cents for 3 mins. Also, the road to the RV sites had multiple pot holes and not well kept. There is not much to Pinnacles NP. Now if you like longer hikes or rock climbing, this is the spot. Otherwise, it takes about 20 mins to drive through the park and not much to do at the campground. We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We camped in the RV portion of the Pinnacles National Park. The campground needs work, it is laid out in a crazy fashion, and the sites are hard to determine. We switched sites for electrical reasons and they charged us $5.00 to move even though there were many sites available. This National Park needs work. There is no water at the sites, there are spigots around the park but only one appears to be threaded for filling your tank.On the other hand the drive up into the hiking area is beautiful. You have to hike to get to the pinnacles themselves. My husband ran along the river to the cave and loved it. We were here in June and it was too hot for much activity except in the early morning. We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Motorhome.

The campsite is rustic and well off the beaten path. The staff was friendly and helpful. The campground has lovely, old growth oak trees. There's a swimming pool to help cool off. There's no Wi-Fi except at the store, and no water/sewer available at the site (but it is close by). Very quiet. And if there is no moon at night, the Milky Way is easily viewable (very little light pollution). I will re-visit for the hiking. We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There's a camp store but don't count on it for big ticket items. The campground can only be driven to from the east so make sure you understand the map/GPS.

Sites are much closer than you'd expect for a National Park, with no barriers between sites. There's no enforcement of rules about number of tents/cars per site, so on a weekend we saw one site with 8 tents and 4 cars! It's very noisy. Many groups visit and bring their kids. I expect noise with kids, but adults also scream, and play loud music. Don't come on weekends if that will bother you! Road is dusty and full of very large potholes. Trash at sites is not cleaned up. Electric posts accept 50 amp plugs but only offer 30 amp service. It's very hard to get a host to help with anything, but that's what you have to do to get your power turned back on. No drinking water available except in the campground, where you have to partially block the road to get it. Overall, however, this is really the only game in town if you want to hike at Pinnacles. We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Motorhome.

Pinnacles National Park is yet another set of volcanic formations on the west coast, this time in central California. When we were there (mid-late May), it was 96 degrees during the daytime, and in the 50's at night. The park is a long way from civilization. Sites are dirt and gravel. There is 20/30A electric at the site, threaded water spigots scattered around the campground, and a dump station near the office. No generators allowed, so if it's hot when you're there, you need an RV site to have air conditioning. The sites are not huge, but spacious enough. Some big rig friendly sites, but mostly smaller sites. About 3/4 of the sites had partial shade. The rest were in full sun. There is a small swimming pool near the office. When we were there, a group of high school kids was in one of the group campsites, and the pool was FULL of well behaved kids. There is absolutely no cell service. No TV. Satellite would probably be fine. The campground had wifi, $10 for your entire stay. It only really worked if you were next to the office, but if you need internet, you need internet. The restrooms near the office were filthy dirty, and the showers were broken. The restrooms in the group camping area were clean and everything worked. We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

You are in the middle of nowhere. It's a long drive if you've forgotten anything, so be prepared to be self sufficient. The main activities here are hiking and rock climbing. The only way to see the views is to hike in, so if you're not interested in hiking, there isn't much to do here.

As others have noted, dusty and some of the sites are are not located well. Our site had some beautiful old trees and quite a bit of space between us and the road to the rear. The site (97) was large enough for our big rig and Jeep. Site 102 is another good option for large rigs. Sites on the outside ring are better than the interior. The park is definitely worth a visit and the campground is the best place to stay. The tent campground has some really nice spots. No Verizon. Dump station required some maneuvering to get properly situated. We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived on a sunny Sunday afternoon in March. The RV sites were less than half occupied; most people in the park were there for day use. By Monday the RV sites were full. However, the area was very quiet all day and night. There is a campground store near the main entrance, but not open all day during weekdays this time of year. Restrooms were clean and well-maintained throughout the day except the men's room was always out of hand soap. First-world problem! We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Great for the variety of hiking trails you can get to directly from the campground and from a short drive to a couple of day-use starting points. March is a good time to stay here as the weather is usually in the upper 60s - upper 70s during the day and into the 40s at night. The road into and out of the park is on the East entrance and is a bit windy for about 20 minutes. Not a problem for our truck and 23ft trailer but a bit more slow-going for larger motorcoaches.

We stayed in site 89 in the RV loop which has electric connections. Water is available to fill your tank, and a dump station is available to dump your tanks. Site was spacious although some are closer together. It was great seeing the wildlife (birds, rabbits, deer) from our campsite. We were close to the trails into the Pinnacles so it was an ideal location for us. This site was in shade half the time. Weather was moderate and it rained the evening of our last day so it didn't slow us down. This is a good time to visit this park. We will be back. We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We arrived without reservations, and decided to take a tent site because the RV sites were too open for our liking. It was a long but pleasant walk to the showers, which are coin-operated. There is a lot of poison oak here, so be sure to keep your pet out of it. We thought we had done a good job of avoiding it, but we still got a bit of a rash a few days later. We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a nice gift shop here, and a free shuttle vehicle to the trail heads during the busy season. The pool was not yet open for the season when we were there (late March). Pinnacles has some excellent hikes, with a good possibility of seeing California condors (we were not lucky enough to see any). But the spring wildflowers were beautiful, and the views along the trails were very scenic.

This is a nice, quiet NPS campground with 30A electric only for RVs. There is a RV dump station, and a water-bib adjacent to site 86 (lucky us!). Sites are ample although I wouldn't call them spacious. Some sites obviously better than others. Staff was friendly, and we definitely would stay here again. We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed at the Pinnacles Campground over Presidents Day weekend 2016. The campground was full. All the RV sites are in Loop "D" which is close to the entrance. The RV sites have power (110 plugs, 30A and 50A all in the box). There are non-hose threaded drinking water spigots throughout the loop that can be used to fill containers and one hose threaded spigot near the loop entrance that can be used to fill a water tank. A dump station (free) is available.

The sites are ample, we didn't feel crowded at all. Some sites have more shade than others. The sites on the outside of the loop that run along CSR 25 seem to have more shade and the most room. We have a 31" motor home. Our site could have easily handled a much larger MH.

The park is clean and mostly well maintained. The picnic table at our site could use a little TLC. All the sites have a large metal fire ring with a BBQ grate.

The park is operated by a concessionaire, not the National Parks Service, but is patrolled by NPS Rangers and campground staff.

The bathroom/shower is a short walk from Loop D. Two showers. Water pressure was good and the water was plenty warm. There is a sandy gravely area in front of bathrooms which tracks into the bathroom. The floor is dirty immediately after being cleaned .. which seems to occur on a regular basis. There are no hooks or shelves to hang/place toiletries.

The office/store/visitor center is at the entrance. They were well stocked with most everything you might need. There is also a pool which opens sometime around April.

Everybody from the NPS staff, the rangers and the campground staff was friendly and helpful.

Something to consider, if you can do without the electrical, a lot of the tent sites are beautiful, secluded and very shady.

In addition to the camp site fee you must pay a National Parks entrance fee, it was $15 per vehicle per week during our stay.

Campfires may or may not be permitted depending on the fire danger. If campfires are allowed, bring your own wood!!! Firewood is $11 for a small bundle if purchased at the camp store.

NPS runs a shuttle to the trailheads.

We were very happy with our stay and intend to return. We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Motorhome.

A wonderful facility far from the maddening crowds. The road is a bit curvy for towing but once there you are in outdoor paradise. Quiet at night and dark enough to see the milky way. Camped here the last week of May. Arrived on Wednesday. Camp was quiet. There was wildlife galore. Wild turkeys, deer, huge jack rabbits. It is a bird-nerd's paradise. On Friday night it got busier and by Saturday it was packed. Wildlife left. Sites 97 - 100 stack you up and your back window may be looking onto someone's picnic table. There are many sites where you have more privacy. Choose carefully. A couple sites leave your front door facing the road. Overall, it is a wonderful park. There is a pool, visitor center and convenience store. Bring what you need because you will be about 35 miles from the closest town. You will also pay an extra $10 as the entrance fee for the National Park. We took a moonlit hike guided by a retired ranger. Wonderful experience. Would definitely visit here again. May not want to visit here in summer. Would be very warm. Sites were level. No fires allowed. We camped at Pinnacles Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
