Flat sites, basically a large gravel parking lot with utilities, fairly quite (watch out for horse race day noise), kind of pricey for what you get but a good basic campground for a 1-2 night stay. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Asphalt sites, needed some leveling. No grass or picnic table, however they have a dog run. A few sites had shade. Full hook ups, but be sure and ask for type of electricity you want (30amp, 50amp) as sites have different options available. Restrooms need a key with a $20 deposit. Staff was friendly and helpful. I used antenna TV which was satisfactory. I couldn't get my computer to access the Wi-Fi, so maybe my problem not theirs? We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I called to make our reservation and a nice gal answered and was able to help us locate a site that met our needs. We were trailer our small 17 foot Casita and have camped at locations where we were wedged in between larger 5th wheels and wanted to avoid this if possible. The RV park was pretty easy to find by just following the signs but Michelle had also emailed me directions of getting to the park. Basically, the park is located to the rear of Cal Expo adjacent to the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail (aka American River Bike Trail). Upon checking in we were greeted by a friendly gentlemen and he offered our dog a biscuit and some complimentary tickets to the RV & Boat show taking place next door at Cal Expo. If you want to use the restroom and showers located in the same building as the office you will need to leave a $20 cash deposit that is refunded when you return the key. We opted not to use the restrooms as we camped at the opposite end of the park and was pretty far away from our site. Our site #334 is located in the paved section it was a great location for us away from other large RV's and close to the grassy area and Dog Park. The site was a bit uneven but we were easily able to level up with our Andersen Camper Leveler. Our site was a back-in site and a bit tight once we unhitched our tow vehicle from the trailer and had to park at an angle to get both within our site, which probably would have been better for a Class B or smaller Class C. We had read reviews of campers bikes being stolen so did not bring ours, but found the security to be good with a patrol coming by several times during the night. The park is well lit at night so that was comforting, but we could have used black-out curtains for our rig. The location of the park is close to eateries, shopping and the American River Trial. We look forward to coming back and exploring more. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The American River is an easy walk from the RV park and is great if you like to fish or are a birdwatcher. The American River Trail allows you to easily access getting around the area. Bring bikes to explore but lock them securely at night.

Stayed during the International Sportsman's Expo in January of 2017. Basically we stayed near the main building so we were camping on blacktop. This campground is ideal if you are going to CalExpo (fairgrounds) or have business in the area. There's nothing quaint or fancy about it, but the showers and restroom facilities are spotless and there is no charge to use them for guests of the campground. I also thought that the WiFi was outstanding - I was watching Hulu from inside the trailer with no glitches whatsoever. So this is a solid campground for those who are in Sacramento on business. It's also fairly centrally located and Sacramento offers a ton of things to do. I love the Old Town area which isn't far at all. While we stayed there was a ridiculous wind storm and crazy rains and this made me happy that there weren't any trees to speak of hanging over the RVs. I also saw a dog area while I was there but ours wasn't with us so I didn't look carefully. Our site was right on a dip in the blacktop for drainage so I got to have my shoes washed while I got in and out of the truck, but this was a truly unusual storm so this isn't a normal occurrence. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is our second stay at this centrally located Sacramento area park. The entrance, off of Ethan, is a bit hard to find the first time, get directions when making reservations (which are not always required). The park is close enough to the freeway for easy access to down town or the outlying areas, but far enough away that there is no traffic noise. There are two parking areas within the park - slightly sloping asphalt sites that face east and a relatively flat gravel area with most sites that face north to north east. Good WiFi. Most sites are pull thru. This park backs up to the American River Bike Trail so natural areas are close. Security and State Police drive thru the park frequently to ensure there are no issues. The locked (key required) combo shower/restrooms are clean and convenient. There is a fenced grass dog area. This park can be hot during the summer months with few slots that have any shade from the late afternoon sun. There are no tables or patios at the sites. There are a few month-long residents, but there is a 30 day / 60 day period stay limitation. Most of the residents we have seen during our two week stay have be in transit to locations in warmer areas.

For us this park is all about location (close to family, restaurants and Starbucks), solid power and good WiFi. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The large Arden Fair Mall is within a mile for shopping. There are numerous free standing restaurants in the area as well as small eateries within the mall. Try Smash Burger or Plutos inside the area near the theaters. FlapJacks (east on Arden) provides a nice breakfast option that can fill up fast on the weekends. Costco and REI are about 2 miles west on Exposition Blvd.

For a "big parking lot", it was pretty nice! It actually had a few trees here and there, but it was pretty much what we expected...a parking lot, and that was ok. Good over-the-air TV, WiFi/cell reception and close to Sacramento at a good rate. That's all we needed. ;-) We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

We've been staying here for past 20 years when in the area. Clean, safe, away from noise. All concrete (much like a parking lot) but spacious lots. No picnic tables. Most sites are on a slant so if you don't have leveling system, using lago style blocks can be a challenge but doable. Close to Hwy 80, easy in, easy out. $20 refundable key deposit allows you to use individual, private bathrooms equipped with toilet, sink, and shower. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The only reason I gave this RV park the rating I did, is that it had a dog park with grass. That and it's location to Sacramento are its only redeeming factors.

We were parked in the gravel parking lot with no trees, cigarette butts and trash on the ground and just generally not a nice environment. The best I can say is that the site was level and the utilities worked okay. Cell and Verizon air card didn't work that well here which was surprising as this was right in the city. Stores and restaurants were close.

The staff was helpful and there was someone cleaning up the parking lot we were in, but there was just a lot of little trash on the ground. There is security over night which is good, as it feels isolated.

To find the park go to Ethan Rd and Gate 13. Good location for getting on the bike trails. I'm not sure we would stay here again except for the location, and we would certainly ask to be put into the paved lot (which is not level), but I'd prefer to deal with unlevel than be in a gravel parking lot. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

About half of the sites here are on pavement, many with trees. The other half are on gravel, no grass or trees. Neither are level. There is a large dog park (really large) with grass. Laundry, restrooms and showers, and that's it. There are bike/walking trails just off the entry road, that travel into downtown, or out of town. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here before and could not find any better option so we returned despite the high rate for a gravel parking lot. Good hookups, strong WiFi and reasonably quiet but side by side parking without any privacy. We'll never understand the site assignment strategy putting us right beside another camper while the park wasn't even one third full. And of course the next camper to arrive got the free spot on our other side. Well, since there is no picnic table or fire ring you stay inside antway.
What we like most is the American River bike path passing right outside the RV park. All paved and gently winding it is a great walking or cycling opportunity. It will either lead you right into Old Sac' or up to Folsom Lake. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Last time we stayed here, it was for a few days, and we felt it was worth it. This time, a couple of years later, it was just an overnight stop, and we felt it wasn't worth it. The traffic getting to the park, even at 1:30 in the afternoon, was horrendous -- bumper to bumper with inadequate signage on I-80 (Bus) from the west. A nightmare. The lady at the desk was not helpful in explaining our options. The paved lot, closer to showers etc., is ridiculously sloped. The gravel lot was better, but our site still had quite a slope to it and it took us some time to get level. The wifi worked fine and it is close to the river and shopping. The showers are basic, could use some tuning up, but the water is hot and the pressure is good. We won't stay here again for a one-nighter, we'll keep on going to some place where access is better. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

There is an adult park in the area that we usually stay at. However, this trip I wanted very easy access to the American River bike trail right from the RV. This park has that. Check in was fast and easy (my wife loved Mabel the cat). The first area of paved sites slopes too much for my comfort so we opted for the gravel area in the back. How much your jacks have to level you at gravel sites has a lot to do with how much previous rigs have disrupted it, but our site was dead on. Power pedestal was located at a very convenient location for our 37' Class A. I pulled right in, dinghy still attached, everything right where I wanted it. This isn't a park where one sits outside & enjoys the view. The aforementioned, very popular, multi-use trail however, is right here. (Users should check TripAdvisor first. I will suggest that, for safety sake, upon reaching the actual trail, you only proceed to the left, not the right.) A boatload of eateries are an easy drive away. Chick-Fil-A & Cheesecake Factory are just two we patronized. Many very nice parks have periodic issues with bike theft in Ca. Expo now has night time security to address this. Propane is available for delivery to your site. Newspapers can be purchased by the office. There is no store associated with park, but you are in the middle of a big city, not the Sierra. Places abound where supplies can be found. Provided Internet was rather inconsistent. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.
