About half of the sites here are on pavement, many with trees. The other half are on gravel, no grass or trees. Neither are level. There is a large dog park (really large) with grass. Laundry, restrooms and showers, and that's it. There are bike/walking trails just off the entry road, that travel into downtown, or out of town. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Location, location, location! Convenient location in Sacramento region. Hosts are very nice. All concrete and parking lot feeling. Park is walking distance to bike/walk trail along the American River. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed here before and could not find any better option so we returned despite the high rate for a gravel parking lot. Good hookups, strong WiFi and reasonably quiet but side by side parking without any privacy. We'll never understand the site assignment strategy putting us right beside another camper while the park wasn't even one third full. And of course the next camper to arrive got the free spot on our other side. Well, since there is no picnic table or fire ring you stay inside antway.
What we like most is the American River bike path passing right outside the RV park. All paved and gently winding it is a great walking or cycling opportunity. It will either lead you right into Old Sac' or up to Folsom Lake. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Last time we stayed here, it was for a few days, and we felt it was worth it. This time, a couple of years later, it was just an overnight stop, and we felt it wasn't worth it. The traffic getting to the park, even at 1:30 in the afternoon, was horrendous -- bumper to bumper with inadequate signage on I-80 (Bus) from the west. A nightmare. The lady at the desk was not helpful in explaining our options. The paved lot, closer to showers etc., is ridiculously sloped. The gravel lot was better, but our site still had quite a slope to it and it took us some time to get level. The wifi worked fine and it is close to the river and shopping. The showers are basic, could use some tuning up, but the water is hot and the pressure is good. We won't stay here again for a one-nighter, we'll keep on going to some place where access is better. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

There is an adult park in the area that we usually stay at. However, this trip I wanted very easy access to the American River bike trail right from the RV. This park has that. Check in was fast and easy (my wife loved Mabel the cat). The first area of paved sites slopes too much for my comfort so we opted for the gravel area in the back. How much your jacks have to level you at gravel sites has a lot to do with how much previous rigs have disrupted it, but our site was dead on. Power pedestal was located at a very convenient location for our 37' Class A. I pulled right in, dinghy still attached, everything right where I wanted it. This isn't a park where one sits outside & enjoys the view. The aforementioned, very popular, multi-use trail however, is right here. (Users should check TripAdvisor first. I will suggest that, for safety sake, upon reaching the actual trail, you only proceed to the left, not the right.) A boatload of eateries are an easy drive away. Chick-Fil-A & Cheesecake Factory are just two we patronized. Many very nice parks have periodic issues with bike theft in Ca. Expo now has night time security to address this. Propane is available for delivery to your site. Newspapers can be purchased by the office. There is no store associated with park, but you are in the middle of a big city, not the Sierra. Places abound where supplies can be found. Provided Internet was rather inconsistent. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Your GPS will likely take you to the fairgrounds, not the RV park. Suggest you use the address 1010 Hurley. If arriving via Ethan Way, go straight as you approach the address. If on Hurley, turn left at the address.

Great staff. Security does a good job, we never felt unsafe, nothing disappeared. Sites are a little tight, but the park was never more than 1/2 full. I got level with 2-2x8s Campground hosts were wonderful. 30 night maximum. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

Not very many rv parks in Sacramento. Site was in the gravel lot. No trees, lots fairly level and parking sites are close. Wi-Fi was adequate. Restroom facilities had separate rooms. Key deposit of $20.00 is required and refunded when key is turned in. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Would stay here again. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Attend activities at the Fairgrounds.

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

If you understand that this campground is about having a convenient location and not a place to reflect in nature, it is fantastic. It is paved (front lot) or gravel (back lot), and there are some trees and shade on the back-in sites around the fences. Spaces are quite large with room to park several vehicles next to your camper. It is adjacent to the American River and the walking/biking paths which we use daily. I greatly appreciate that the ~10 washrooms are all individual instead of a group room and kept quite clean. [You swap $20 for a key and then get it back when you return the key] The WiFi has been greatly improved. Laundry facilities, having mail & packages delivered, proximity to a popular mall, tons of restaurants, doctors - it is our go-to spot when we have things we must attend to and then we return to nature. Having realistic expectations is important. We have stayed here many times and already have reservations for the future. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Truck Camper.

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

July 27 - Aug 10, 2015 Site #406 The campground is clean and well maintained, which is not difficult since it's just a parking lot There are few trees and virtually no shade. The front part of the park is all paved and sloping, the back section is flat and all gravel. There are about 10 spaces that are concrete and flat. Noise is minimal; cannot hear the highway, only the occasional train horn and some noise from the maintenance yard. This is not a destination CG, but it is quite convenient for doing things in the area. FedEx and UPS are delivered to site, USPS is held at office. The campsite is concrete or paved with 20/30 & some 50 amp electric. No table, no fires. Water quality is quite good for city water, about 60psi. No cable; OTA has good reception and lots of channels. Internet wifi is in most of the park, but only two antennas, so you may have a weak signal depending on location. Speed varies from very fast to quite slow; streaming is possible, sometimes. The laundry is small with old tired machines; did not use. The showers require a key ($20 deposit), did not check. No pool. The staff is pleasant, friendly and very accommodating. There are no park organized activities; most guests were short term. The park is in the middle of Sac, so anything and everything is close. The American River Bike Trail passes right next to the park. Spaces 404-408 have the best chance for AM and PM shade, these sites are also flat and wider. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Avoid staying here during events at CalExpo, unless you like chaos.

Not a lot of choices in Sacramento. Cal Expo is close to downtown and Old Sacramento. We were in the completely paved area for RVs. Our site was very unlevel and had to put boards under the jacks to finally get level. Not a lot of people there but campers were put right next to each other rather than being spread out. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

Large Pull through, Ulilities strong. Large Fenced Dog Area. Verizon ok. Every restaurant and retail store you usually use close by. Campus Commons Golf Course a couple miles away. Will stop again. Price seems to be getting higher each year. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Basically a parking lot but full hookup, good WiFi and TV antennae reception. The area is quiet and was close to the dog show we attended at the Red Lion. We were able to get a shaded spot. Sites are very wide with a bit of slope. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Motorhome.

Last years rate was 35$, now it's 40$. Now they have stretched it too far. A safe place to park on a gravel lot, that's it. Good hookups and pretty quiet. The American River Bikepath runs along the park, which is a nice opportunity for a walk or a ride.

Next time we will only consider this place for an overnighter or try another location when in the area. We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Park unlevel black top or gravel in back section. No picnic tables, no bathrooms without $20 deposit. Office closed at 5 PM. Way overpriced. Staff not helpful. Night lights very bright & unnecessary. Need I say more. Got my last buck!! We camped at Cal Expo RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
