Overall Rating:

Pricey for a military facility, but still a reasonable value for its location if you get the military rate. Superb customer service. An earlier reviewer complained about the "broken" English of the staff. They do speak with foreign accents, but their English is fluent, not "broken," and it's sad that someone would confuse those two things in this day and age. The sites are very close together and the pads quite short, which is the main detractor at this park. I barely got all my wheels onto the pad with a 28 foot rig. That being said, it was absolutely level. There is a huge parking lot nearby for tow cars if you can't fit yours on your site. The park and surrounding grounds are lovely - lots and lots of green space and picnic areas, which makes up a little for the very tight sites. There is a golf course adjacent to the RV park, but there is no way to get there walking - you must drive a car. It isn't that far at all, but they won't let you walk along the golf path (gates are all locked), and the road that goes around to the front of the golf course is marked with threatening signs saying not to walk or ride bikes on it. I was informed they will cite people for walking on that road. Rate includes cable tv with lots of channels and free wifi. The wifi is reasonable, not great, but you have to sign up with a credit card (no charge, just for identification), and you can only be signed in with one device at a time. Verizon service is good. Not a great location for bike riding - you have to go a mile or so on a road with a bike lane but scary fast traffic to get to anyplace nice to bike. We camped at Admiral Baker Field RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Stayed 2 nights. Not your usual RV park. Military facility but the office staff were foreigners with broken English. Asked unusual questions like proof of insurance on RV & Car. No discounts for Vietnam vets. Only active or retired. Yet it is open to the public. Our reserved site was occupied as we arrived but was cleared up within a short wait. Utility box was full of spiders & cobwebs. Level concrete slab for our small trailer. Things were okay after settling in. Overall, a good home location base for urban San Diego. Very busy during the summer. I would come here again but be more prepared for the next encounter. We camped at Admiral Baker Field RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

This is a great location if you want to be in the middle of San Diego. The concrete pads are a little small and you may find the front and/or back of your unit will hang off the end of the pad. The complex is well staffed, but sadly they are not customer service orientated. They seen to see their role as supervision rather than service. Once or twice a week, they will come around handing out notices reminding people to pick up after their pet, keep areas neat, etc. They just go from unit to unit handing out the notices to everyone. A minor annoyance. A great place in San Diego to spend a few weeks in January or February. We camped at Admiral Baker Field RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The RV area is pet friendly, but the rest of the complex (offices, picnic areas, pool, golf courses, ball fields, etc.) are off limits to pets. Be careful; don't go walking and wander into areas where your dog is not allowed.

Great place to stay for a while. It has FHU and a functioning wifi. The latter is a bit painful and requires a login every 24 hours or a credit card that's not used. It's close to San Diego fun. The spaces are a little bit close together, though not like a commercial counterpart, and the concrete sites are sufficient for your big rig. It's an open base with no gate and the golf course is right there beside you. Qualcomm stadium is within a mile, but I wouldn't walk it as the traffic is heavy and fast. The reservation IT system in Navygetaways is a pain in the back side; call on the phone and the person is very helpful. We camped at Admiral Baker Field RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

One of the best RV parks I have ever visited. Clean, safe, wholesome environment for kids. Extremely helpful camp host and office staff. Meticulously maintained grounds, staff regularly attends to park cleanliness. Strict enforcement of dog leash and cleanup rules are absolutely necessary and greatly appreciated. Nice dog park. Because the park has no gate or guard the host staff is constantly on duty to provide security: a task which they consistently and competently perform. A perfectly managed park in all respects. Centrally located near all San Diego attractions. Some sites have golf course views, multiple kids playgrounds, pool during summer, adjacent to two Navy golf courses. Paradise. A small campground located in a convenient location. It's a steep road in, but you should be OK if you go slow. Road was paved and sites had a concrete pad for your unit with gravel base for the rest of the area. Some sites were pretty small, but sites on the inside of the loop were big enough for large rigs. Nice playground for the kids. Water, electric, cable, sewer, and Wi-Fi were all good. Some highway noise but not bad. Situated in a lovely canyon next to a golf course and recreational field for the military. The pool was a bit of a walk and we did not use it. We liked it here and would stay again. This would be a great little RV Park, tucked away in a canyon, next to a golf course, in a very central location to San Diego and the surrounding areas. However, there are a lot of issues with this place. Sites are concrete and level, but drops off at edge of concrete, making it difficult to use picnic table or chairs. Also, care must be taken to avoid backing up too far, where you won't be able to drop your rear jacks. The camp hosts are constantly circling in their cars, not for security but to find things to confront guests about, such as approved fire heaters, flying kites with kids, guests displaying their RV-based business signs, mobile RV repairmen, etc. We felt like children with all the rules and reprimands. Half the RV Park are active duty military banking BAH. We were here for 4 weeks and the grass was mowed 6 times, starting at around 6am each time - annoying and total FWA. What a shame that a nice RV park with lots of amenities and in a central location is so over-regulated that it sucks the fun out of staying here. We won't be back. We camped at Admiral Baker Field RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

This military park is very conveniently located to all the attractions in San Diego. The grounds are immaculately maintained with a lot of grassy play areas, and the office staff is very friendly and helpful. The pads are cement and very level, which makes setting up a breeze. This is definitely a place we will visit again. We camped here in a motorhome. We camped at Admiral Baker Field RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

This was our first time staying here. The check-in was fast. Getting the reservation over the phone was also pretty easy. The campground hosts are very helpful. The restrooms are clean, although they could change the access codes more. The cable TV service was good, but the station numbers didn't match the guide that was handed out by the office. WiFi was available thru the Navy network. It was free, but you had to register. The signal and bandwidth were pretty good. I'm retired military, so our nightly rate was $30. The park is close to two trolley stops, which makes access to the downtown area very easy. We will stay here again when visiting the area. (RVPR Admin Note: This FamCamp is now open to the public.) Very nice park with lots of grassy areas and friendly RVers. They are unusually strict about dogs being leashed all the time. The only slight negative is the bathrooms. They are old and substandard. The sinks never seem to have hot water (but the showers always do). There is some traffic noise from a distance but it didn't bother us. We always stay here when in San Diego. We stayed five nights. As others have stated, this park is ver convenient to San Diego attractions. The rate of $42 is the non-military price. The sites are gravel with a concrete pad. The interior road is somewhat narrow and tow vehicle is in the road during set up and exit. The sites are fairly close together, but quiet. There is a large common area with grass and covered tables. Each site also has a table. We would stay here again. We camped at Admiral Baker Field RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here four nights. Last year we stayed here seven nights. The place is simply outstanding. Thirty bucks a night might seem pricey but compared to all the other San Diego RV parks it's a bargain. We camped at Admiral Baker Field RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Great campground in a quiet setting for Active Duty, Reserve, Retired and DoD. Centrally located in Mission Valley just off I-15 and I-8. We stayed for a week over Thanksgiving Weekend. The park was always quiet and well kept. There are 4 "corner sites" (which we had) that are not the most desirable and had we been staying in the campground during the day, we would have asked to be moved. Other than that, it is a great military camp ground and it will be our base whenever we're in San Diego. We camped at Admiral Baker Field RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Great location, easy to access from I-15 or I-8, central to Sea World, Balboa Park (SD Zoo and much more), and not too far from the Wild Animal Park. Staff was not friendly or helpful, but the price was good. All the spots are back-in; no pull throughs. City noise is okay, but present. We stayed here in a Class A RV with a dolly. Great location for our visit and close to any Interstate for your next destination. All sites were back-in but not an issue for us. The only bad thing about this park is the walk from the parking lot to the registration office. Wi-Fi and cable worked great and the hook-ups configured for easy use regardless of your RV sewer location. For the price, location and hook-ups we will definitely stay here again.
