Check in was at 2 pm. We arrived and were given site 884 which is a back in. The site was hard to get into with my 40 motor home. There was a cement pad to park on, and relatively flat, there was a picnic table and fire pit but we couldn't use the fire pit because it was too close to the motor home. Lots of dirt, so sites are dusty. Nice pool and hot tub but here again more kid in the pool than space same as hot tub. Should have adult pool time in the afternoon. The hot tub said for adults only but this wasn't enforced. This park has tent camping and spaces just for tent camping which is down the road from the RV park. But right in the brochure it says no tents in the RV park area, but here again this was not enforced as we walked around the RV park we saw tents right next to RV. All in all I think $125 for this park is a little steep. I was looking forward to a very upscale park for that price and that was not the case. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

State beaches right down the street but no dogs on the beach Santa Barbara is about 20 miles away Goleta was about 10 miles away Solvang is only 30 minutes away.

The walk to the beach is down hill steep, which means walking back was very steep.

This is a sister park to El Capitan Canyon, an adjacent "glamping" facility with common ownership. Ocean Mesa is on the north side of the 101 about 20 miles due west of downtown Santa Barbara. The park is set on a hillside above El Capitan State Beach. It is a half mile walk to the state beach. Free admission if you walk in.

The park is maintained to a high standard with a nice pool and the staff is very friendly. The power was consistent at 50 amps and the water pressure was adequate. This is an expensive park to visit but you get open space with a short walk to the beach. This is the only RV park that I know of that has an on-site massage therapist, with 3 hours notice.

El Capitan Canyon has a Saturday night summer concert series which we missed by a few weeks. Summer weekends have a 3 night minimum. We will return. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Motorhome.

Have stayed several times and this is a very nice park, but they recently raised their rates. We paid the winter rate of $103.50 with Good Sam. Staff is friendly, but not RV'ers. Close to the freeway so if you are looking for peace and quiet, this is not the best choice.

However, that said, the location is close to Santa Barbara (actually north of Goleta), so there are few choices. In the future, we will drive a little further north to Buellton. Lot spacing is nearby with a sunny/open exposure. Site surface was a concrete pad featuring a fire ring and picnic table. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Very disappointed. Have stayed here 3 times in past because it's level, clean, paved w/relaxing pool & great staff. However, this time were many, many young tent campers. Not only were there many, many tents and young people...there were clothes & towels hanging out, cooking tent/tables and a large U Haul...all at the front entrance. While respectful, they overtook the pool, outdoor common areas and as kids will do, left bathrooms/shower rooms messy and clean up was very slow. Disappointing that management would allow that many tent young tent campers & the resulting impact on those who were there in RVs & motorhomes and paying $95/night. Not sure we will be back as there are other RV Resorts in the area that offer same amenities & don't allow large groups of tent campers to overtake the entire place. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Motorhome.

This campground and its sister "glamping" facility next door, are situated on some very expensive real estate. That might help explain the high prices. There are sites for everything from tents to diesel pushers. Our site was located on the lower level, middle row near the bottom and we did have a partial ocean view. The site had level concrete for our RV but you step into dirt when you exit your coach. There was paved area in back for our toad. There are fire rings and tables at each site.
During our summer, mid-week visit the park was filled with families and lots of kids. There is a large grassy area with playground equipment for kids and a dog run. There are also hiking paths but be aware dogs aren't allowed on them.
As others have mentioned, it's a long walk to the beach. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Motorhome.

This is an above average campground, at best. At $60/night I might have rated it an 8, but at $95/night, it's one of the most expensive parks we have stayed at and simply is not worth it. There is a nice pool and hot tub with a decent deck area. All public areas are clean and well maintained as are the RV sites. There is no view of the ocean from the parking spots even though it is so close. The hiking trails are not well marked at all and signs are very confusing. There is no easy way to get to the beach, and it's not a very impressive beach area anyway. The staff is not professional at all. We got the impression that it is mostly staffed by teenagers paid minimum wage. They are not very helpful and very shy and unassertive. Therefore, rules like the adult swim time and the no smoking policy are not enforced. We got to the hot tub one night at 9:30 and a bunch of small children (and their parents) were shooting high powered squirt guns between the pool and hot tub even though no children are supposed to be there after 9 PM. I doubt we would ever return to this park even though Santa Barbara itself was beautiful...there are just many nicer places to spend your time and money than this. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Santa Barbara is very beautiful but very RV "unfriendly". Parking RVs in most parking areas in town is prohibited. We have a tow vehicle, but if you come here and don't bring one, don't expect to be able to spend much time in town. The beach areas and shops and restaurants on State St are worth visiting. Definitely do the 17 mile scenic loop around town.

Stayed 5 nights over New Years. Site was level and clean. Sites in the bottom loops are pretty close together and you can smell the neighbour's sewer at times. We had to ask our neighbour to close it while we ate outside. (Luckily he was cool about it).

Besides the sewer situation, I would have thought they would have stronger towers for Wi Fi being it is such a new RV Park. WiFi was free but practically useless when park is full.

Pool and Jacuzzi were clean. Bathrooms clean, updated and well maintained. Check- in was friendly and provided lots of information, maps etc. Being 12 miles from Santa Barbara didn't bother us as it seems to affect other campers' ratings of this park. We were just as glad to be that much closer to Solvang. It's all relative. We will absolutely be back. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Travel Trailer.

This park is way over rated. They have lots of rental trailers that brought in and set up from offsite. It was extremely noisy. You felt like you were on the median of the 101. Almost no view of the Channel. This is the most we have paid for a site in over 30 years of RVing. This is no Outdoor Resorts!!!!! This is on our never go back list. The park is clean and well maintained but does not merit the price of $95 per night. It is good but not outstanding. I expected to be staying in Santa Barbara as that is how their address is listed. The real address is in Goleta which is more than 20 miles from Santa Barbara downtown. The swimming pool and spa were nice but had so many children in both that it was impossible to enjoy using them. There is adult only time from 9:00 to 10:00 at night. I would have liked it more if there was more adult only time in the pool and spa. Also, the beach was too far to walk to. This is a lovely campground, close to Santa Barbara. It is overpriced for what they have to offer, but presumably that is due to the location. It is close to the freeway so somewhat noisy, and there are LOTS of kids on the weekends using the pool. They also allow tent camping, so there are a lot of young people who are loud and partying, and they do not monitor the noise. When we were there, we were unable to use the pool or the hot tub because there were several young men playing games in the pool. Several people complained but nothing was done. That being said, if you stay at a time off-season, perhaps it would be quieter. It is a pretty campground. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Motorhome.

Couldn't come up with one bad thing about the park. Rack rate is steep, but you do get to see and smell the ocean. Restrooms and laundry spotless. Maybe the wash ($2.25) and ice ($2.97) could have been cheaper. Excellent heated pool and hot spa. Staff very nice. Our price ($45 a night, max 5 days) was the winter special, which we fully paid for last August. If money was not an issue, we would stay here again. Excellent place to start out full time life We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Motorhome.

The only reason this is rated at a 6 is because its outrageously expensive for a park that sits right on the freeway with all night traffic. If you are deaf, it's fine. The sites are wonderful cement level pads with a side pad for the truck. Easy hookup to w/e/s and cable TV. WIFI is fast. This is NOT in Santa Barbara or any city for that matter. A good 1/2 hour from SB. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Fifth Wheel.

With a short walk to the beach, this park is very close to perfect, and for the price I would expect nothing less. The pool facilities were very clean. It seems that the best sites for ocean view are the back in sites at the top of the hill. The only draw back is the road is a little narrow and backing in a longer trailer can be entertaining for your neighbors to watch. We will certainly stay here again. We stay at this park anytime we pass through the area. Recent stay confirmed the overall rating - only thing negative is the price, but what can you do. The park is top notch. Short walk to beach. Good restaurant within walking and pool/spa makes this park a good stop for several day stay, if you want a view of the ocean. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Motorhome.

Our original plans were to go to Oregon for vacation but due to the wild fires we had to make a last minute change of plans. Have stayed at this park twice before, but not in summer. The park was very busy; too many barking dogs and I am not a dog hater (I have 4) but don't take them camping. I wish they would enforce the adult swim hours from 9pm - 10pm. El Capitan State Beach was awesome; the kids had a great time. The weather was perfect. Will go back this winter when the rates are lower and it's less crowded. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Tent Trailer.
