We had a great inaugural camping experience at this KOA! This was our first time at a KOA with our brand new tent trailer. We had our 2 1/2 year old grandson with us. We had previously always stayed at state or national park campgrounds. Having electricity and water and free showers was a plus. Overall our experience was very good. The campground is nicely laid out and relatively clean and maintained. There are lots of activities for kids (even though our little guy was too small for some). The facilities were convenient and fairly well maintained although the bathrooms and showers could have been a little cleaner. We camped midweek so the place was not crowded and was very quiet. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Tent Trailer.

This park is paradise for little kids in summer. Lots of other kids. Lots of activities. Crafts, rock-wall, Big-Foot hike at dusk. Lovely pool. The sites are wooded and pretty. Staff is very friendly. Downside is no sewer hookups and WiFi doesn't work. We will return. We also had a group event here a couple of years ago. They did a great job for us, and we enjoyed our stay, although the cost for club-house use is a little steep. We will stay here again. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Motorhome.

We stayed here before and loved it but this time they were booked pretty solid so we ended up in the "Alder" area above the park. Can't really say this is a space although it has water, cable, sewer and electric but they're not "together" so we really had to do creative wiring for the cable. It's up a VERY steep hill with no real turnaround unless you back up; not fun with a 33' trailer. Everything worked well but not very "scenic" as it's literally on a road to the clubhouse/shower so fair amount of auto & pedestrian traffic. Very busy park with lots of activities for kids; weekends are crowded. We would stay again but will book farther in advance and avoid weekends. Love the peacocks! We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Enjoyed our stay at this park. I would say this is somewhere between a campground and an RV park. More space between sites then a typical RV Park, but a little close for a campground. More rustic than a typical RV park, which I like. Very well maintained. The site we had was a grassy site, we were in the shade all day. Utilities were all good, decent amount of cable channels. My site was Water/Electric/Cable. Sites with sewer are available, but were too close together for me. Lots of things for the kids to do here. Staff was very polite and helpful. Overall, a great stay. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Motorhome.

This KOA is 5 miles up a two lane road. It only has 6 sites with sewer. The rest are water/electric only. It is Sunday morning and I am sitting here watching 30 trailers lined up to dump. Painful. I have one of the 6 sites with sewer. The park is dusty and dry, but is the best park in the area. It is $40 a night cheaper than the parks on the coast, so mostly used by younger folks, new to RVing. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you are in a 40' motorhome, consider paying to stay at one of the nicer parks on the coast. Grocery and restaurants are 4-5 miles down the hill. This is a good place for kids. The internet is very good in site No. 1. 35 minute drive over to the Reagan Presidential Museum.

This park is a bit off the beaten path and you drive through town to get there. For an overnight it wasn't too convenient but if you have kids for a few days it would be great. It's built into the hills so going to the pool or showers required a hike down steep uneven stairs - would not be good for anyone not agile or small kids. They have a lot to do - nice pool, zip line, climbing wall and playground. The staff was very helpful. Our space was not level and a bit tricky to get in to - there's lots of turns and hills in this park. Also a lot of trees which is nice for ascetics but not so nice for the sap and bird poop on the rig. There are a lot of wild peacocks which are beautiful - they don't bother anyone but I did hear them early in the morning. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful park and setting. Employees unsociable, some rude. Rude campers. Noisy peacocks, pretty? Maybe. To me, fancy noisy chickens. Nice town, good location. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Motorhome.

Initially, we were concerned about our size. We have a 40 ft 5th wheel pulled by a full crew size pickup. This campground is laid out with just the right amount of space for big rigs to get in & out. Just take it slow and you can stay here. The entire place is built on a hillside but divided into areas. Each area is as level as most campgrounds. We were in site #33 which is labeled a pull-through, however we backed in. One of the entrances was off the main road which is very steep in that section making it impossible for us to use the site as a pull-through. We had a very nice paved patio with table and chairs and a great view. They have tons of kid friendly activities. The pool area is extremely nice, but at the bottom of a very steep hill. This campground is located out in the country but it is an easy drive into Ventura for day trips. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We had a group of 10 FMCA campers. The rate reflects the group discount. We were placed in a beautiful wooded section in a circle around a fire pit. The sites are spacious and shaded. Utilities worked well. There is no sewer. Wifi was good. We used the club-house facility which is spacious and freshly painted as well as fully equipped. There is a huge barbecue and patio area available (we didn't use it). The club-house cost is pricey $35 for a four-hour slot.

The staff did a good job for us, despite that it was difficult to communicate in advance of the event - phone calls weren't returned, emailed documents didn't reach the recipient, etc. We live close enough to make a couple of personal visits so we didn't have any real problems.

We will stay here again and have already recommended it to our daughter's family as there are lots of kids activities. There is a sparkling pool, a climbing wall, a zip line and organized activities. Our group didn't take advantage of any of this as we were there in the off-season and no children were present. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The nearby cities of Ventura, Ojai, and Santa Paula offer sight-seeing, restaurants, and the Pacific Ocean (Ventura). Recommend Azu in Ojai (high-end Mediterranean), and La Cabana in Santa Paula (family style reasonably priced Mexican).

Not Handicap friendly, I felt really bad for a camper in a wheel chair. Safety issues with the steep stairs, be very careful. Very small bouncing pillow that did not have enough air. The kids enjoyed the Zip Line. The 1 hour per day for the rock wall was not enough time for the amount of kids. They did not drive through the park to keep down the noise from barking dogs. However they did respond when we called to complain. The problem was they allowed 3 dogs to come in with one family.

Friendly staff, I found them very enjoyable and they were there for the campers.

After visiting other KOA's before coming here, I was very disappointed with this park. Northern CA and San Diego have really nice parks and we do not mind paying the price for them.

This park has mostly tent, cabin and TeePee spots. There are a couple good RV spots 13 & 14 but most RV spots are very close to each other. I don't enjoy listening to your neighbors conversations.

So over all for the price, it's not worth it.

If you are a camper that enjoys sleeping in, well forget it here. The Peacocks are beautiful to look at but very loud in the mornings. Kind of like waking up next to a bunch of roosters. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Motorhome.

Having stayed here several times and was greatly disappointed when we arrived. We had requested a premium site for our 40 ft. pusher with a clear view of the southern sky for our satellite; when we arrived and checked in we did not have a site with any a clear view. Staff said they could not change the site even though we had booked the site a year in advance. They said their system would not allow them to change it. Great park, clean and lots of wild Peacocks.

They need to do a much better job of site selection instead of putting a 28 ft rental with no satellite dish in a 60 ft site when the amount of large sites with full hook ups are limited. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Motorhome.

This park has something for everyone. It is built on the side of a canyon and there are multiple camping areas as you go down to the valley floor. At the top is the office and located nearby are cabins and a limited number of pull thrus and a few backins. The rate with KOA discount for a pull thru is $62. We stayed in one of these for two nights. There are peacocks and peahens wandering thru the campsites. Then there are three camping loops as you proceed down the hill. These are all back-ins and do not have sewer hookups. The rate for a backin is $50. We stayed in one on a Friday nite. This area filled up completely on the Friday night with weekend party groups. The groups near us had fun but were very considerate and moved their trucks so we could make turns on the way out. The valley floor is for tents - there are a number of large tee-pees for rent and a large number of tent sites. The large beautiful pool and bounce platform are located here. There is also a two stage zip line down the side of canyon. The sites at the top near the office would be good for more mature campers but the real fun is in the lower campsites.

Contrary to what other reviewers have said - the WiFi was EXCELLENT. They were installing new antennas while we were there. Cable TV was fine.

The price seemed high to us but we are from Arizona and not used to the Southern California prices. A county run park with campsites within 10 feet of an active railroad was asking $35 a nite with no sewer and no cable.

The only possible negative was the people working the front desk. They seemed young and clueless but the manager was excellent We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice isolated location. Lots of shade. WiFi was not usable. Cable TV was not working. Poor laundry facility. two washers, one was not working. Two dryers. Went into Santa Paula to do laundry. Heavy trucks carrying avocados roll through the park at early hours, but mostly quiet. Nice pool and zip line. The park has improved some since our last stay in 2010, but could use a bit more work, such as site leveling, tree trimming, and moving some of the piles of rocks to allow easier maneuvering of RVs. Would stay here again. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Unlike some other reviewers here I found this KOA lacking in every aspect as an RV park. It's more a tent type of place. The trees are in need of trimming, I couldn't get into my pull through site because of low hanging branches. I called the office to use a different site and all I got from the kid was the run around. Then I found that the 50 amp electrical was not wired correctly but I was ignored. There is a critical water shortage in CA but this place watered so much there was water running down the street. The price I paid was way too much for what I got. We camped at Ventura Ranch KOA in a Motorhome.
