Conflicted about this review. We were treated very badly upon check in. Arrived at 11:30 AM and manager said "We don't have a space for you yet". I said I understand it's early. We'll go ahead and check in and drop the toad and come back when it is ready. She said "Check in is at 3:00 PM". I understand but every place we have stayed has let us come back then. She relented and called the owner. He said it was a mix up and showed us our site. It was about a foot out of level and I stated that why we stay and pay extra at KOA so we can get a good site. He said they were working on leveling them to KOA standards, but could not give me another site. I asked why and he said: "Why don't you just go somewhere else". I was shocked and said "easy for you to say on a summer weekend at a National Park". To his credit, he said let's start over we are having a bad day here. He then bent over backwards to make us happy and help us level the MH, even gave us 2 bundles of $8.00 wood! So all in all, I give this an average grade for anything over 30 feet because sites are not level. Short MHs or trailers would get an 8 because amenities are great and the owner made up for bad treatment. Interesting stay! We camped at Mt. Lassen / Shingletown KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Mt. Lassen/Shingletown Holiday KOA is nothing short of exceptional. With fewer than 60 spaces, this campground does not feel overcrowded like so many other RV parks. The entrance is lined with beautiful pine trees and a split rail fence with manicured lawns, flower pots and artisan wood carvings to greet guests. At check-in we were greeted by friendly office staff who helped us adjust our campsite assignment to accommodate our 38' Class A motorhome. We were escorted by one of the friendly ground crew to our site who helped us safely maneuver around the pine trees and gladly assisted us with leveling our rig. Utilities were in great condition, with 50/30/20 amp service at the lighted pedestal, 60 psi regulated water pressure and a sewer connection surrounded by a cement skirt at grade making for an easy gravity connection. Pine trees are a prominent feature of the park, providing ample shade opportunities but manicured so as not to interfere with larger RVs. Some sites have a clear view of the southern sky for satellite reception and all the sites are wired for cable TV with +/- 26 channels fed by DirecTV with superb picture quality. The park has free WiFi with antennas throughout. During our trip, the average bandwidth speed was 1.6 MB/sec down, 1.0 MB/sec up with a 20 ms lag time. RV sites 4, 30 and 31 are 65 feet long with concrete patios, furniture and BBQs for an upgraded experience. The park contains a large wooded area on the southern half of the property that features a walking trail, bike path (complete with graded hills and jumps), benches scattered throughout and a large tire/rope swing. Restroom, shower and laundry facilities are updated and spotless. All the small touches and attention to detail underscore the fact that the new owners are striving to create a welcoming camping atmosphere that creates lasting memories for guests and their families. They are succeeding. We look forward to returning in the years to come! We camped at Mt. Lassen / Shingletown KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lassen Volcanic National Park is 20 minutes east Off Hwy 44 and makes a great day trip. Visit Manzanita Lake and go for a 1.5 mile walk around the shoreline or rent a kayak for fun on the water.

This KOA Holiday is woodsy and welcoming. Upon arrival, we were greeted by several staff members, as well as the owner. After some friendly chatting, they directed us to our site and helped us get backed in and settled. We did have a bit of a problem getting our motorhome level, due to the site not being level at one end, but the staff pitched in to help with matters and we did get leveled. They went over and above and continued to be very helpful and friendly all during our stay. Our site was 35, which is off to the side near some cabins, tucked into a corner. We had plenty of room, a fire pit, and a picnic table. Many of the sites here have a fence between them, which gives some semblance of privacy. There is a large lawn area with outdoor games to play, as well as a horseshoe pit. A pool was enjoyed by many, although we never did try it out. There is a walking path through the woods at the back of the campground, with a great doggy agility course in the doggy park area, basketball, a bird lovers area, a big wooden swing hanging from the tree, along with other things to stop and do. Or, you can just walk the path through the woods and back into the campground. And, there is a Little Free Library here! This KOA is very well maintained, clean and a pleasure to spend time in. We will definitely stay here again if we make it back to the area. We camped at Mt. Lassen / Shingletown KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Mt. Lassen Volcanic National Park is about 15 minutes away. This lesser known park is very beautiful and interesting, with great hiking opportunities. The very small town of Shingletown is about 5 miles away. There's a Post Office, a couple of small grocery stores, and gas stations there, as well as some other shops and a pizza place. Burney Falls is another beautiful spot about 45 minutes drive away, with a stop at the Subway Cave along the way.

Can't say enough good things about this KOA. Their customer service and welcoming manner was nothing short of exceptional. From the first phone call through check in through many helpful interactions with staff we felt like the most important customer ever camped! I suspect that everyone ends up feeling this way. The place is SPOTLESS; Bathrooms, trash area, laundry room. This place has it all. We camped at Mt. Lassen / Shingletown KOA in a Tent Trailer.

We normally avoid KOA Parks as they are often congested and cramped. This was the closest full-service park to Lassen National Park (15 minutes) and we were thrilled when we arrived. It is set in large trees with each site being large and well spaced. The utilities were easy to access and convenient. The one exception was the cable TV which required a female/female adapter which we had to purchase at the local Ace Hardware. The picture was so snowy we were unable to watch most of the channels. Internet access was free but was minimal at best. There was very little Verizon or Sprint service. There is an extremely large forested area in the rear of the park which is set up with walking trails and numerous activities such as basketball, volleyball, bird-watching and an obstacle course. They have a great fenced dog area with agility setup. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area. We camped at Mt. Lassen / Shingletown KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

KOA's are not our favorite parks but this is one is definitely a cut above most. It is very campground like with sites hither and yon, some better located than others. It was full during our stay with many families and groups and is a good choice for them. The amenities for kids were well maintained as was the entire park. The only negative for us was the location of the dump station and several parked vehicles which necessitated us backing out after we had finished. Not an issue for smaller rigs or if those sites had not been occupied. No Verizon phone or internet. We camped at Mt. Lassen / Shingletown KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

This is second time we have stayed here, a week each time. Another RV park high on our list. The management is exceptional but regrettably is retiring and leaving the state. The setting in the woods is beautiful. The dog run is the best we have ever seen. There are agility obstacles to entertain the pups and the run is set at the back end of the park so as not to disturb guests. Pick-up bags are available. There are walking trails in the rear and front of the park. This is a mixed use park with tenting and cabins. The office includes a small general grocery store as well as a gift shop and firewood can be purchased on site.

We were in a deluxe site that included a propane BBQ, privacy fencing and lovely patio table with seating for six. We camped at Mt. Lassen / Shingletown KOA in a Travel Trailer.

A nice park, lots of trees, spacious sites. Everything is gravel, roads and sites. Most sites are large, close to level. WiFi is good, but we were told that was because the park was less than half full. Cable is analog, but a good picture, although only a dozen channels. We camped at Mt. This is a beautiful campground. You definitely don't feel like you are in a "parking lot". The camp sites are well spaced and have lots of trees. The people working here are so helpful. We arrived and discovered that our bedroom slide out would not deploy. The staff recommended a mobile RV repairman who arrived promptly and fixed the problem. We did laundry here and the facilities are top notch. They have the most amazing dog park we have ever seen in a campground. It's set up like an agility course. Our dogs didn't go on the teeter-totter, but it was available for them. It just seems like the owners here are striving to go the extra mile to make their campground inviting. We usually stay at the Manzanita Lake campground in Lassen National Park, but we came to the KOA because it was a last minute decision and Manzanita was full. We will definitely come back to KOA. We camped at Mt. Lassen / Shingletown KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

The high price reflects the premium site that we had. Huge pull-thru with steps leading down to a 30x15 cement patio with built-in fire pit, table and chairs, and a propane weber grill in perfect condition. We stayed here in June and liked it so much we made this reservation for July before we left. Our site in June was not easy to get into and not level which required boards under the tires.
